2019 Cheltenham November Sunday Tips by Dave Stevos
Cheltenham Sunday Preview
We had a good day on Saturday at the November Meeting at Cheltenham. Potters Legend ran a super race, however he just missed out on a place in 3rd. The Happy Diva form line worked out in the big one but Demi Sang had other ideas and ran no sort of race. Golan Fortune got us back to winning ways, advised at 33/1. He returned at just 14s and that was a more realistic price considering his form. Shanwalla closed the show for us with a nice place at 16s. Dave Stevos has previewed all 5 live ITV4 races tomorrow. Check out his 2019 Cheltenham November Sunday tips and preview below…
Cheltenham November Tips: 1.15pm X-Country Chase (Class 2)
This marathon test of 3m 6f will take a lot of getting on soft ground and only 10 go to post. French raider and former C&D winner Urgent de Gregaine is the favourite at 3/1. He clearly enjoys it on this quirky course but his handicap mark of 147 is a worry. He has to concede 10lb to Kingswell Theatre and on previous meetings the Scudamore horse should beat him on these terms.
Rolling Dylan is a horse I like and I tipped him up last time. He was pulled up but he is better than that and if he takes to this unique test he could go well. His price looks about right though at 14/1. From a handicapping perspective, Tea For Two could be very well treated. A former Chase Grade 1 winner, he effectively races off 133 thanks to his talented young rider’s claim.
He looked to be enjoying himself and was running a big race when he stumbled after jumping a hedge over C&D at the Festival back in March. It was an encouraging effort up to that point and hopefully he can avoid any similar mishaps here. He has to prove he stays this trip too but if he does and he puts in a clear round, he has the class to feature. This is never a race to bet heavily on, but for small stakes Tea For Two is worth chancing e/w at 9/1.
CHELTENHAM NOVEMBER TIPS: TEA FOR TWO E/W @ 9/1
Cheltenham November Sunday: 1.50pm – Arkle Trial Novices’ Chase (Grade 2)
Only 4 go to post for this Grade 2, a bitterly disappointing turnout from a betting perspective. Al Dancer and Getaway Trump head the market with the latter edging favouritism for Nicholls and Cobden. That is despite the fact that Al Dancer beat Getaway Trump comfortably by almost 6L here last time. A 3lb swing may not be enough for Getaway Trump to close the gap, though he will be fitter this time.
Rouge Vif ultimately won well on his chasing debut at Market Rasen, despite a couple of sticky jumps. He handles soft and was very useful over hurdles and at 9/2 he could put it up to the first two. He’ll need to jump better than last time though. Put The Kettle on has more chasing experience than these but the ground is a massive worry. I see no angle for a bet here, this is one to watch with a view to the future.

2019 Cheltenham November Sunday Tips: 2.25pm – Shloer Chase (Grade 2)
Another 4 runner affair and while it is low on numbers, it is high on quality. Politologue and Defi Du Seuil lock horns for the first time. Politologue has a super record when fresh, but a lot of Paul Nicholls’ have benefitted hugely from a run. He chased home Altior in the Champion Chase back in March but his last win over 2 miles came in 2017. Defi Du Seuil won the JLT over 20f here at the Festival but his last two runs at 16f resulted in defeat.
In this small field with ground to suit, Saint Calvados could be the one to be on. This 6yo loves testing conditions and he is a proper 2 mile specialist. He won a nice handicap here off 155 last time carrying top weight, a seriously good performance on bottomless ground. You would think that all roads lead to Leopardstown for the stalwart Simply Ned and he would prefer better ground too. Everything looks right for a big run from Saint Calvados and he is the selection at 9/2.

Cheltenham Preview: 3.00pm – Greatwood Handicap Hurdle (Grade 2)
The Greatwood Handicap Hurdle is a valuable race and thankfully a decent sized field go to post. 15 will line up behind the tapes and I like one at a monster price off a feather weight. Irish raider De Mazzaro comes here after two fine runs on soft ground at Fairyhouse and Galway. He was 2nd at Fairyhouse off a mark of 106 to a horse called Shumaker who won off 93. That horse won his next two and was placed off 117 last time. The 4th in that race won next time out too.
De Mazzaro broke his duck last time at Galway (16f soft) off 108 with Darragh O’Keefe claiming 3lb. O’Keefe is one of the best up and coming jockeys in Ireland and he claims 3lb again today. De Mazzaro beat a promising Joseph O’Brien horse comfortably at Galway. He was value for more than the 3L he won by as he was boxed in coming around the home turn. Tom McCourt’s horse relished the uphill finish at Ballybrit and carrying just 9st 11lb, he could run a big race here. His trainer reports him to be in good form and at 33/1 De Mazzaro is worth chancing each way.

2019 Cheltenham November Sunday: 3.30pm – Supreme Novices’ Trial (Grade 2)
The last live race of the day on ITV4 is the Supreme Trial and only 5 will go to post. Ecco is the market leader but testing ground is a big concern for him. All his best form is on good ground and the same can be said for both Scardura and Hang In There. That leaves Pacify and Eden De Houx, both of whom have form on soft ground.
The latter is trained by David Pipe and he was 2/2 on soft in bumpers. He ran well enough upped to 19f on his hurdling debut at Fontwell and this drop back in trip should suit. Pacify racked up a sequence of 5 wins during the summer, all on good ground. He had some seriously good form on soft on the flat though, so he should handle the ground. He handled the step up to listed company well at Kempton last time (16f gd) but soft ground around here is a different proposition. This is not a contest that appeals from a betting perspective and I’ll be sitting it out. No bet.
