2019 Haydock Saturday Tips By Dave Stevos
2019 Haydock Saturday Preview of Live ITV Races
Sunday at Cheltenham’s November meeting was a struggle for us as all our selections disappointed. Tea For Two looked like he didn’t get home and it is back to the drawing board for his connections. Saint Calvados never got to the front and maybe his previous win took its toll. De Mazzaro ran a nice race but fell at the last when still in with a chance of a place. Hopefully we can get back to winning ways tomorrow. Check out Dave Stevos’ 2019 Haydock Saturday tips below…
2019 Haydock Saturday Tips: 1.50pm Handicap Hurdle (Class 2)
A decent 19f handicap hurdle kicks off proceedings on ITV on Saturday. The ground is currently good to soft and with rain forecast it is likely to be on the softer side. The one I like at a nice price here is the admirable old boy Man Of Plenty. Sophie Leech’s 10yo son of Manduro is back down to a workable mark after 4 average runs this season. He races off 125 today and with his jockey’s 7lb claim he is effectively off the same weight as his last win at Sandown.
That came over 16f on heavy ground but this horse handles any ground, depending on the trip. On bottomless ground the minimum trip suits him, but on ground like today’s 19f is perfect. He was a fine 2nd in this race in 2017 on heavy ground, 8L behind the talented Limited Reserve. His jockey is having his first ride for Leech, but he is a decent pilot. He has ridden 5 winners from just 33 rides with 11 top 4 finishes. Off a nice racing weight on ground he will enjoy, Man Of Plenty is the each way pick at odds of 20/1.

Haydock Saturday: 2.25pm – Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3)
The first graded race of the day at Haydock is this Grade 3 Stayers’ Hurdle. Run over a shade further than 3 miles (24.5f) this race has attracted 17 runners. At a big price Mega Yeats could go well for in form Ruth Jefferson. She has had three runners in the past week and they had form figures of 221. Mega Yeats is a useful sort and was last sighted winning a Novice event at Market Rasen (20.5f gd/sft).
She has yet to race beyond that distance but her pedigree is full of stamina. She is by Yeats and her Presenting dam is a sister to the very smart stayer Snoopy Loopy. That suggests that the step up to 3 miles will suit and she also has course form in the book. She was 3rd in a Listed heat here back in February, 6L behind two mares rated in the 140s. That would suggest her opening handicap mark of 134 is more than fair. Mega Yeats won first time out last year and at odds of 22/1 she could outrun her price for e/w players. Acey Milan is another one to note and if it turns very soft he could go well.

2019 Haydock Saturday Tips: 3.00pm – Betfair Chase (Grade 1)
The big race of the day at Haydock on Saturday is the 25.5f Betfair Chase. Only 4 will go to post in this lucrative contest and Bristol De Mai is looking to win it for the 3rd time. With just 4 runners there is no each way betting available so this is not a race I’ll be getting involved in. No bet.

Haydock Preview: 3.40pm – Handicap Chase (Class 3)
The final live race on ITV from Haydock on Saturday is a 28f handicap chase. Deep stamina reserves will be the order of the day and one horse that should relish this test is Moving In Style. He caught the eye travelling well for a long way last time at Exeter (24f sft). Robert Walford’s charge was entitled to need that comeback run and he should strip fitter now. Sam Twiston Davies was on board for the first time that day and he keeps the faith.
This son of Mountain High stayed on strongly to win over 26.5f at Sedgefield off 114 last March. His next run probably came to soon and he needed his last one on his seasonal return. He is now back down to a mark of 118, just 4lb higher than his Sedgefield win. This marathon trip could bring about even more improvement, but he wouldn’t want it too soft. If the heavy rain stays away Moving In Style holds strong each way claims at odds of 8/1.
