2020 Thyestes Chase Tips and Preview by Dave Stevos
2020 Thyestes Chase Preview By Dave Stevos
The less said about last Saturday’s selections, the better. Aintree My Dream flattered to deceive for Paddy Brennan. He looked like he might figure at one stage but a drop in class is probably required for him. Our e/w NAP of the day, Coded Message, ran a cracker I thought. Kielan Woods charted a very wide course, probably in search of better ground. She missed out on place money but on a sounder surface she is one to follow. It is a big day in Ireland today at Gowran Park. Check out Dave Stevos’ 2020 Thyestes Chase tips below…
2020 Thyestes Chase Tips: 3.00pm – Thyestes Chase (Grade A)
The 25f Thyestes Chase is the biggest race run at Gowran Park every year. Normally a real stamina test, this year the ground is not as testing as usual. It is soft, rather than heavy, and that could put the emphasis more on speed than stamina. The one I like at a decent e/w price is Mattie Smith’s charge Lord Schnitzel. This 7yo clearly has gears as he showed when chasing home Carefully Selected at Fairyhouse (21f sft). The 3rd home in that race was right behind Minella Indo last weekend at Navan.
Lord Schnitzel has disappointed on his last couple of outings but those came in Graded company. He should be much more at ease in handicap company, especially off a mark of 135. Adam Short also takes off another 3lb and he has a nice low racing weight of 10st 1lb. Gowran Park is a track that can suit prominent racers and this fella likes to be up there. Hopefully he gets a decent start and Short can get him into a nice rythm.
Soft ground should be fine for him but he wouldn’t want it go get much drier than that. He has to prove his stamina for today’s 25f trip and there are mixed signals from his pedigree. None of his close relatives have scored beyond 20f under rules, but he is by a strong stamina influence in Getaway and his Norwich dam is stoutly bred too. Given his running style, if he does get the trip he should be capable of going close. At odds of 16/1 with 6 places available, Lord Schnitzel is the each way 2020 Thyestes Chase tip.
