2020 York Day 3 Tips and Preview by Dave Stevos
2020 York Day 3 Tips and Preview of Live ITV Races
It was a mixed bag for us on Day 2 but at least we got another winner on the board. Miss Amulet won very well for us in the opener, advised at 16/1 and won at 15/2. She looks like she will get further too and she is a fine prospect. Kraken Power ran a decent enough race but he just didn’t have the pace at the business end. I was gutted by Red Bond’s run. The formline with Sir Busker and Ouzo was right, he just ran a stinker. Frankly Darling and Eva Maria never got involved either. Hopefully tomorrow’s selections are more consistent, check out Dave Stevos’ 2020 York Day 3 tips for ITV races below…
2020 York Day 3: 1.45pm Sky Bet Handicap (Class 2)
First up on Day 3 at York’s Ebor meeting is a 10 runner 12f handicap. The ground was drying all the time on Thursday and with little to no rain forecast, that trend should continue. It will most likely be perfect, safe, good ground and the one to be on could be Dark Jedi. Tim Easterby’s horses are flying right now and this fella ran a huge race behind Sinjaari in the John Smith’s Cup here over 10f last month.
The 4yo son of Kodiac had previously won two on the bounce at 9f (sft) and 10f (gd). However, he looked ready to step up in trip on his last turf outing. He is 5lb higher than for his win at Ripon and his last two runs proved he is more than capable of being competitive off 89. Duran Fentiman knows him inside out and at odds of 8/1 surely a big run is on the cards.

York ITV Tips: 2.15pm – Lonsdale Cup Stakes (Group 2)
With no Stradivarius some of the other top notch stayers get a chance to shine in this 16f G2. Nayef Road looks the obvious one having chased home Stradivarius the last twice. It is surprising that most firms have Enhibaar as favourite though. Her form is not as strong as Nayef Road’s and she is unraced beyond 14f. The one that looks overpriced in this is Eagles By Day for David O’Meara and Danny Tudhope.
His run in the King Edward at Royal Ascot last year behind Japan was a cracker but his form disappeared afterwards. The move to David O’Meara has rejuvenated him though. He was ultra impressive when winning easily here over 14f on his first run for the yard. He was 5L behind Stradivarius and 4L behind Nayef Road at Goodwood (16f) but he had a rough enough passage.
Another try at 16f is more than justified given his pedigree. He is by Sea The Stars and his dam Missunited was a top class stayer herself, finishing a close 3rd in an Ascot Gold Cup over 20f. The return to York is another plus and with ground to suit, Eagles By Day is worth backing each way at odds of 15/2.

ITV Live Tips York: 2.45pm – Gimcrack Stakes (Group 2)
I have struggled with the 2yo races this season (even more so than usual!). 10 go to post in this 6f Group 2 and Minzaal heads the market for Owen Burrows and Jim Crowley. He looked very good when scoring at Salisbury and his maiden form at Ascot looks decent too. However, at an absolutely monstrous price I am going to take a chance on another son of Mehmas.
Royal Dynasty takes a big step up in class here after a nice win at Wolves on debut (6f).He broke well that day, settled and got a lovely run up the inner. When he hit the front he was more than a bit green though and I felt that if he was more clued in he would have won by a whole lot further. He had a previous winner in Apres Dark over 2L behind in 3rd and it was a fine debut effort. Joseph Parr’s charge should be a lot more streetwise today and his yard is in super form. Parr has fired in 3 winners and two places from his last 7 runners and Royal Dynasty could easily outrun his odds of 66/1. He is the each way pick.

York Wednesday Tips: 3.15pm – Nunthorpe Stakes (Group 1)
I have taken on Battaash on his last two starts and I just can’t kick the habit. Yes, he is brilliantly quick, yes he is a cut above the rest and yes he is the most likely winner. However, you most certainly won’t get rich quick by backing him and there is always a slight chance that the real Battaash doesn’t turn up. If he does he will blitz these, though it will be fascinating to see how Art Power gets on against him.
He has looked electric this season and he is progressing through the ranks at a rate of knots. He looks a ready made replacement for the same owner’s Donjuan Triumphant and at just 3yo his best days are ahead of him. His Ascot win off 97 was a procession and he hosed up at Naas last time (6f yld/sft). There is just a slight worry about whether he needs cut to show his best. Whatever he does here, he’ll be one to look out for on more testing ground at the backend.
The one I’ll be hoping can sneak a bit more black type is Que Amoro for Dods and Mulrennan. This daughter of Es Que Love has blossomed in the past year. Since winning here last July off 80 she hasn’t looked back and she loves it at York. She has yet to finish outside the first 3 from 4 attempts (2 wins) and she looks sure to make a bold bid this afternoon. At odds of 40/1 a small e/w interest is advised.

2020 York Day 3: 3.45 – Convivial Maiden Stakes (Listed)
It isn’t every day you get to watch a maiden on ITV racing but to be fair, this is a famous one. It is usually contested by quality horses and last year’s winner Molatham went on to win a Group 3 and is now rated 111. Karl Burke won this back in 2018 with Commanding Officer and Red Right Sand looks a potential improver for him in this. He was slowly away on debut at Haydock and though he was beat 8L in 5th he did show a modicum of ability.
Karl Burke’s horses tend to come on a lot for their first outings. Also, on breeding the step up to 7f from 6f should really suit. There is plenty of stamina on the dam side of his pedigree and his sire’s record with runners at 7f to 9f is rock solid. Naval Crown is the clear form pick on his Listed place last time but at much more tempting odds of 33/1, Red Right Sand is the each way selection.
