2021 Troytown Chase Tips and Preview
This has been one of the worst runs I can remember having. Saturday was another write off with none of our four fancies even coming close to hitting the frame. Pay The Piper ran alright but Bravemansgame was incredibly impressive. Pistol Whipped never jumped or travelled and was pulled up. Gladiateur Allen was once again far too keen and faded badly late on. Clondaw Castle could only manage fourth and he never got into the race. To put it simply, it was a pox of a day. This Sunday the feature in Ireland is the Troytown Chase at Navan and it looks as competitive as ever. Check out Dave Stevos’ 2021 Troytown Chase tips and preview below.
2.50 Navan – Troytown Handicap Chase (Grade B)
We managed to find a non-trier in last Sunday’s big handicap so hopefully today we at least get a run for our money. I am going to fire two bullets at the Troytown today, the first one being Snow Falcon. We have backed him on his last two runs, at Galway and then in Listowel. In hindsight, the Galway run was most likely to tee him up for a repeat bid in the Kerry National. However, things didn’t go to plan at Listowel and it wasn’t Sean Flanagan’s finest hour.
Snow Falcon finished 8L behind the winner Assemble in 7th. However, he swung extremely wide coming into the home straight and that had to have cost him a 3 or 4 lengths at least. Previously at Galway he finished 9th in the Galway Plate over 22f, staying on pretty well having been given far too much to do. His career form figures at Navan (over hurdles) read 21311. He was also 2nd there in the Irish Cesarewitch on the level. His two best recent chase runs came on good ground and off a mark of 140, hopefully the old boy can run into a place.
Peaches A Dark Horse
At even bigger odds, Peaches And Cream is an interesting contender for Gavin Cromwell and Conor Maxwell. This son of Salutino isn’t very consistent and isn’t one for maximum stakes. However, the 6yo has a couple of snippets of form that make him of interest from an each way perspective. He was piss poor last time at Naas (20f yld) but that was over hurdles. Previous to that he actually didn’t run too badly at all on his return from a break at Galway (22f sft), his last chase start.
He finished 4th off 125, beat 8L, but he stayed on very nicely in the closing stages. On that evidence, today’s distance will suit. The form of his Beginners Chase win at Wexford when he beat Roi De Dubai by 3.5L (conceding 7lbs) would suggest he is well treated off 125 but he needs to go and prove it. His two previous Navan runs were poor but one was in a maiden when he was out for a mark and the other was on bottomless ground. Cromwell would love to win this race at his local track and at odds of 50/1, Peaches And Cream is worth a small each way interest.
