2022 Glorious Goodwood Saturday Tips – DS
2022 Glorious Goodwood Saturday Preview
Just the one winner on Friday but it was a tasty one. Orbaan absolutely hacked up, advised e/w NB at 33/1. Baasem lost his race in the prelims and Vertiginous was drawn on the wrong side. Desert encounter travelled into the race well but it looks like Old Father Time has caught up with him. We will try to finish well on the final day, 2022 Glorious Goodwood Saturday Tips are below.
1.05 – EBF Maiden (Class 2)
Classic is even money for this 7f maiden. Richard Hannon’s charge ran to a good level on debut and the horse that finished 2L behind him won a maiden next time out. The Foxes also ran a nice race on debut before disappointing in Listed company at Royal Ascot. He could prove to be the biggest danger, although the Mark Johnston trained Loyal Touch can’t be discounted either with Ryan Moore booked for the ride.
Of the unraced ones, maybe Scorch can make his presence felt. A March colt, his dam is out of a 7f G1 2yo winner and is a half to the second dam of Native Trail. It is a very nice page and the booking of Jason Watson catches the eye. He has had 4 rides for Chapple-Hyam with two wins and two top 4s and he is 1/1 on 2yos for him. Watson has had 2 rides for the owner, returning one win and one 4th. This son of Aclaim will need to be good to trouble the top three but he ticks enough boxes to justify a small e/w interest at odds of 20/1.
2022 Glorious Goodwood Saturday Tips: Scorch e/w @ 20/1
1.40 – Stewards’ Cup Consolation (Class 2)
A disappointing turnout for the consolation race for the Stewards’ Cup. Only 12 will go to post but at least it should make finding the winner a little bit easier. At around 16/1, The Lamplighter looks very interesting for Baker and Cosgrave. By Elusive City, this 7yo shaped very nicely on his first two runs of the season. In April he was beat a nose over today’s C&D off 80 and he was then beat 1.5L into 2nd off 81 at Brighton.
His next run when only 5th back at Goodwood possibly came too soon after Brighton. Baker has freshened his charge up and that is a plus as this horse has run some of his best races fresh. Last year he finished a fine 3rd in this race off 73 and while he is 7lbs higher now, his first two runs of this campaign showed he is capable of going close off his current mark.
He is a former two time Goodwood winner and he is only 3lbs higher than when winning here last June. The Lamplighter should get a strong pace to aim at and at 16/1, he is worth backing e/w.

2.10 – Summer Handicap (Class 2)
14f awaits a maximum field of 14 in this year’s Summer Handicap. A year ago, Euchen Glen ran in the Queen’s Plate here. Then rated 116, Jim Goldie’s staying star produced a stellar performance, beaten only a neck by the 112 rated fav Passion And Glory, to whom he was conceding 3lbs. The 107 rated Fox Tal was a neck back in 3rd. Goldie’s 9yo son of Authorized has yet to hit those heights this term, although he did run a very nice race in Listed company at York back in June.
Now, he returns to Glorious Goodwood off a mark of 102 and surely that is workable. He never figured back in handicap company at Chester last time but things just didn’t go to plan there. Euchen Glen is now just 1lb higher than his last winning handicap mark and given how well he finished over 12f here last year, I’d imagine connections have had their eye on this race for a while. If he can repeat the form he showed at York on his last start at 14f, Euchen Glen should be thereabouts at odds of 18/1.
2022 Glorious Goodwood Saturday Tips: Euchen Glen e/w @ 18/1
2.45 – Lillie Langtry Stakes (Group 2)
At around 14/1, Forbearance could go well here for Jessie Harrington and Hollie Doyle. By Galileo, this 5yo mare has been running okay this season. She needed her comeback in York and it looked like she was still a bit rusty at Cork. Last time at Leopardstown she showed more positive signs, finishing a decent 5th behind Rosscarbery at Leopardstown.
The last time Hollie Doyle got the leg up on this mare, she won a Listed heat at York. She also added a G3 at Newmarket in September (12f gd/fm) and she is now 2/3 on her trips to the UK. Maybe the fact that the ground is often quicker in England is the reason she runs well over there and it’ll be rattling on Saturday. The O’Brien 3yo is feared but at odds of 14/1, hopefully Forbearance can add another UK Stakes race to her CV.
2022 Glorious Goodwood Saturday Tips: Forbearance e/w @ 14/1
3.20 – Stewards’ Cup Heritage Handicap (Class 2)
The pace in this race looks to be amongst those drawn 20 or higher. Mr Wagyu, Able Kane and Justanotherbottle are drawn 20, 22 and 21 respectively and all three like to get on with things out in front. It may well pay to focus on those drawn high but it is a 28 runner race at Goodwood, so anything can happen. In the hope that the aforementioned trio give him a nice tow into the race, I am going to back Commanche Falls.
Michael Dods has already had a winner here this week and this 5yo landed this prize last season. He won it off 101 from stall 23 and this year, he is drawn in stall 19. Connor Beasley is reunited with this son of Lethal Force after he unfortunately unseated at Ascot last time. If Beasley can slot in behind the early pacemakers, hopefully he can produce this fella late, just like he did last season. At odds of 20/1, Commanche Falls is the each way selection.
