2022 Irish Lincolnshire Handicap Tips – DS
2022 Irish Lincolnshire Tip
There is also a big handicap in Ireland on Saturday at the Curragh. The 2022 Irish Lincolnshire looks as competitive as ever this year and I like the chances of a 25/1 shot. Mick Mulvany always targets this race and he runs two in it this time. In From The Cold will be a horse that regular readers will be familiar with but the ground is probably just gone a bit too quick for him. I can still see him running well for Jack Kearney but the fact that Wesley Joyce gets the leg up on Comfort Line suggests that a big run must be expected.
He is Mulvany’s go-to claimer these days. He has ridden six winners for the Meath trainer whereas Jack Kearney is 0/2. Comfort Line was 50s for this race earlier in the week but he has been trimmed into 25s. The 5yo son of Alhebayeb is having his first run of the season but he is working well at home according to Mulvany. If, as he claims, there is nothing between the 94 rated In From The Cold and Comfort Line on their homework, the latter horse looks very nicely handicapped off 84 (off 77 when Joyce’s claim is considered).
Course Form
This fella has quality course form in the book on soft, good and yielding ground. Last March he was only beaten a length in this race off 91 on soft. He was only 0.5L behind the winner when runner up in August (8f yld) off 89. On good ground over 7f he was far from disgraced in the G3 Gladness. He got to within 5L of the runner up Current Option in receipt of 3lbs. With Joyce’s 7lb claim considered (and MacRedmond’s 5lb allowance), he’ll be getting 25lbs from him today.
There is no doubt that this fella has been trained for this race, just like he was last year. Yes, he had a prep run last season but he has run big when fresh in the past. He is 2lbs out of the handicap but as I’ve outlined, that shouldn’t matter. The cheekpieces are an interesting addition and looking through the race, there doesn’t look to be a huge amount of pace in it.
I can see Wesley Joyce being fairly forward in the early stages and on this better ground and off 9lbs lower than when beaten into third last year, hopefully Comfort Line can see it out to the finish. At odds of 25/1, he is the each way selection. I’ll have a sneaky e/w saver on In From The Cold at 33s too.He is race fit and he’ll be doing his best work at the finish.
