2022 York Ebor Ante-Post Preview and Tip – DS
2022 York Ebor Ante-Post Preview and Tip
We were out of luck with Saturday’s selection. Inanna just couldn’t go with the principals and she was probably out of her depth. Next week we have York to look forward to. It is always a great meeting and the biggest betting race of the festival is the Ebor Handicap. Dave Stevos’ has been weighing up the form, check out his 2022 York Ebor Ante-Post preview and betting tip below.
Rain Forecast
One of the worst things about these long range bets is not knowing what the ground will be like. This summer has been dry and warm, but the weather is due to break next week. The forecast says rain is due on Thursday and if it does come in time, Max Vega has every chance of hitting the frame off a mark of 109.
Trained by Ralph Beckett, this horse looks like he has been trained for this. He ran a huge race in it last season, finishing an unlucky 5th off 106. He returned to action this year in a G3 at Newbury (12f gd). The 5yo won it, but as a result his mark rose to 110. A couple of quiet runs have followed at York and Goodwood in G3/G2 company and he has only got 1lb back from the handicapper.
Troubled Passage
In the 2021 renewal, Max Vega had a horrible trip. Dropped out in rear, he was scything through the field once they turned into the straight but his progress was halted, repeatedly, between the 3f and 2f poles. In the end the son of Lope De Vega had to switch very wide and by the time he found daylight, the first four had flown. He finished by far the best of the rest though, running through the line strongly for 5th.
If he got a clear run, surely he would have finished a lot closer than the 5L he was beaten. The winner, Sonnyboyliston, was in off 108 and he has since won a G1 (now rated 116). Quickthorn was 2nd off 103 and Max Vega is now 5lbs better off with him. Once there is no firm in the ground description and once he gets a bit more luck than last year, Max Vega is capable of going very close in this year’s Ebor at odds of 25/1.
