2023 Sunday Czech Darts Open Preview
Just the one winner for us last night but we are still well ahead on the darts this weekend. James Punt is back with another preview this afternoon. Check out his 2023 Sunday Czech Darts Open betting preview and tips below.
Rob Cross vs. Karel Sedláček
Rob Cross may have got a break with this being the first match up. The partisan crowd will not be fully lubricated and will be that bit more subdued. Evil Charlie was superb in his 6-4 win over Joe Cullen last night. Cullen averaged 103.5 but it wasn’t enough to deny the Czech hero a 6-4 win. Can he keep it up against Cross?
They last met in PC3 in February and it was Cross who won 6-5. Overall his H2H record with Sedláček is 5-2 and he has won their last five matches in a row including two Euro Tour matches last year which he won 6-4 and 6-3.
Different
This will be different. This is a Czech player playing in front of a Czech crowd. Last year the crowd carried Adam Gawlas all the way to a quarter final. Can they do it again?
Cross has lost six of his last ten matches but he has played better than that suggests. His confidence is fragile, especially on the Euro Tour where he is still seeking his first title. He has lost five of his last eight Euro Tour matches and he may be expecting something similar.
Cross is the 1.30 favourite with Sedláček 3.70. At the odds, it’s worth getting behind Evil Charlie and hope the crowd can get up to speed from the off.
2023 Sunday Czech Darts Open Tip: 1 point Karel Sedláček to win @ 3.70 with Ladbrokes
Michael van Gerwen vs. Josh Rock
A repeat of last weekend’s semi-final which MVG won7-3. It was a very one sided affair with MVG averaging 103 to Rocks 95.3. Rock never got going but he is right up for a re-match.
He has the benefit of youth on his side, he isn’t yet bothered by playing and losing to the big names. He was saying yesterday that this is the start of a new mega rivalry in darts. Rock was openly throwing down the gauntlet, saying that he is the new MVG and Van Gerwen is the old guard.
Van Gerwen has won seven of his last ten and he was made to work very hard by another good young player, Mike de Decker last night. He won 6-4 in the end but it was close.
Rock has won seven of his last ten matches and he has the fire power to match Van Gerwen. Their H2H record is 3-1 to MVG and they have met twice on this year’s Euro Tour with Rock winning the first one 7-0 in the semi-final of ET5 and MVG winning last week’s semi-final 7-3.
MVG is the 1.53 favourite and Rock 2.50. They are more closely matched that that and the value lies with Rock.
2023 Sunday Czech Darts Open Tip: 1 point Josh Rock to win @ 2.50 generally available
Nathan Aspinall vs. Ryan Searle
The Asp averaged 103 in his 6-4 win over Martin Lukeman yesterday. He averaged 104 in defeat to Gerwyn Price on Thursday so his game is in good nick. He has lost five of his last ten matches. Aspinall has played Danny Noppert at this stage for the last three weeks so at least this is a bit of a change.
Searle is not a Euro Tour specialist. He got his best result in ET1, reaching the semi-final, but since then he has played eight and lost four. Like Aspinall he too has lost five of his last ten matches and he is lacking consistency.
Their H2H record is 3-3, all Players Championship matches and five of them at late stages. Two finals, two semi-finals and a quarter final. Not stage matches but important matches. They have taken turns to win and neither has won two in a row. It is Ryan Searle’s turn to win having lost the semi-final of PC22 last 6-7.
Too hard to call for me. No bet.
2023 Sunday Czech Darts Open Tip: No Bet
Dave Chisnall vs. Andrew Gilding
Chizzy proved to be VERY popular with the Czech crowd in yesterday’s 6-2 win over Geert Nentjes. It was a 100.56 average despite him having numerous bounce outs. He has won seven of his last ten matches and remains in great form.
Their H2H record is 8-4 to Chizzy and they have met twice on the Euro Tour this year with one win apiece. They met in the final of the Belgian Open last year and it was Chizzy who won that. Gilding won 6-5 in ET4 last month but Chisnall had won five in a row before that.
Gilding has lost five of his last ten matches and he is not at the top of his game.
Chisnall is the 1.57 favourite and as we have backed him outright, I am happy to leave this match unbacked and hope the Chizzy justifies favouritism, which he should.
2023 Sunday Czech Darts Open Tip: No Bet
Dirk van Duijvenbode vs. Jonny Clayton
We nearly landed a nice touch with Mario Vandenbogaerde yesterday. He took Dirk to a deciding leg but the Dutchman pulled out a great leg to nick it 6-5. Dirk was being outscored for most of the match and he is still bothered by his knee injury. He says it is getting better, is less painful, but it will be hard for him to play multiple matches in one day.
Jonny Clayton is in great form and beat Martijn Kleermaker 6-1 last night. He only averaged 86.6, but that was all he needed. We should expect something around the ton mark today, a bit like his 6-3 win over Heta at this stage last week.
Their H2H record is 8-6 to Clayton but it is Dirk who has won their last three in a row, including last week’s 6-4 win. This is a tricky match. With Dirk under a bit of a cloud thanks to his injury, Clayton makes sense as the tip, but injured or not, Dirk made the semi-final last week.
The bookies are confused, some making Dirk the favourite and others Jonny. I will sit on the fence and suggest that we will get another close match.

Damon Heta vs. Kim Huybrechts
I was impressed by Huybrechts yesterday. He played with real purpose and was hitting a lot of treble 20s. It was a 100.29 average in a 6-3 win over Martin Schindler. He has lost six of his last ten matches so two good wins in a row doesn’t mean he is bang in form, but he has looked on it so far this weekend.
Heta beat Dylan Slevin 6-2 yesterday. It was an easy win and he didn’t get out of second gear, averaging 92.9. Huybrechts won their only previous meeting 4-6 in a Players Championship match last year.
This is hard. Huybrechts was impressive yesterday but he hasn’t been in good form lately so it is hard to get too excited. Heta is a very good player but is a bit of an underachiever.
Kim is the 2.50 outsider, Heta the 1.57 favourite. I will sit this one out.
2023 Sunday Czech Darts Open Tip: No Bet
Danny Noppert vs. Peter Wright
Noppert will be confused to not be playing Nathan Aspinall, as he has done for the last three weeks. This should be easier, however.
Wright averaged just 90 in his 6-5 win over Brendan Dolan last night. He was lucky it was Dolan, who’s poor Euro Tour record was confirmed again. The Ulsterman basically handed the match to Wright and it was as undeserving a win as you will get. Wright has lost six of his last ten matches and remains in poor form, even if there are occasional quality displays.
Danny Noppert averaged 101.51 in a 6-4 win over Jose de Sousa last night. It was a good display, better than he has been playing recently. He has won six of his last ten but that was his first ton plus average for over a month.
Wright leads the H2Hs 7-3. Noppert won their last meeting 6-5 in ET8 last year, ending a run of seven straight defeats. Since then Wright has lost his form and Noppert is the marginal but not universal favourite.
2023 Sunday Czech Darts Open Tip: 1 point Danny Noppert to win @ 1.95 with Fitzdares
Luke Humphries vs. Dimitri van den Bergh
Humphries was less than convincing in his 6-4 win over Ross Smith. It was a big let down as a spectacle, but our man won, so it was OK in the end. Van den Bergh, on the other hand, hit a 102 average in his 6-2 win over Stefan Bellmont. The result was never in question but the nature of the win was. Van den Bergh has lost six of his last ten matches and he has not been convincing of late.
Their H2H record is 9-5 to Humphries. Dimitri won their last match 6-4 in PC7 in March, ending a run of six straight wins for Humphries. They have met twice on the Euro Tour and Humphries won them both. Hopefully he can continue that trend. He is the 1.67 favourite to do so, but this could be another grind.
