2024 German Darts Finals Night Preview – JP
2024 German Darts Finals Night Tips
It had all been going so well. Sadly everyone I tip in the last couple of rounds has forgotten where the outer ring is. 27% for Michael Smith, 20% for Cross and 25% for Ross Smith today. Yesterday Bunting checked out at 9%, Gurney 22%, Damon Heta 11%. Quite the collection. Who gets the curse for tonight’s quarter finals? 2024 German Darts Finals Night tips are below.
Gerwyn Price vs. Josh Rock
Gerwyn Price smashed up Ryan Searle 6-0 and looked like setting a new record for the highest three dart average in Euro Tour history. He ended up with 112.7. His scoring has not been his problem and when he has a match were the doubles are being hit, he will have big averages. Today he checked out at 55%. Obviously, if he keeps that up, Rock will be a spectator.
Josh Rock took advantage of a very poor performance from Smith. Bully Boy scored well but had a mare on the doubles. Smith should have won the match but lost it to a player averaging 91.9.
Price In Better Form
Rock has played Price twice and won once, both matches on the floor and both ending 6-4. Price has been in much better form than Rock and he has played much better in this tournament. Rock can only hope that Price has one of his off days on the doubles, and even then, Rock may have to up his game.
Price is the 1.44 favourite across the board (funny that the bookies just copy the first set of odds that go up at this stage!). Rock is the 2.75 outsider.

Luke Humphries vs. Danny Noppert
Cool Hand was devastating against Ryan Joyce earlier. It was a 111.6 average and a 6-2 win. Joyce played very well, averaging 102, but he was left watching Humphries picking the winning darts out of the board for most of the match. We have become used to Humphries hitting big scores and he looks up for it today.
Noppert did manage to repeat his good form of last night, beating Rob Cross 6-2. Cross put in a poor performance and made it easy for Noppert, but the Dutchman averaged 100, to make it back to back tons. He will need to do it three times, and up his game if he is to get anything off Humphries.
H2h Close
Their H2H record is 4-3 to Humphries. They only met once last year and that was a 6-5 win for Humphries on the Euro Tour. That was their third 6-5 match and four of their six best of eleven leg matches have gone over nine legs.
However, it is really difficult to win legs against Humphries right now. In his last ten matches, only three have required more than nine legs.
Humphries is the 1.29 favourite, Noppert 3.90. Fair odds really. Over 9.5 legs is 2.25 and that is tempting, but Humphries is just playing so well that you feel he could end this quickly. No bet.
2024 German Darts Finals Night Tip: No Bet
Nathan Aspinall vs. Martin Schindler
Aspinall got off to a flying start against Ross Smith. Smith just wasn’t switched on, Aspinall was and it was 4-0 before Smith started to play. It was all too late and despite Smith hitting five maximums, he wasn’t able to rattle Aspinall, who won 6-2. It was frustrating for Smith, but Aspinall was well worth his 102.78 average.
Schindler beat Chris Dobey 6-4 and it was a close enough match to land our bet. Dobey missed a dart to take it to a deciding leg and he did well to keep his head in the face of a hostile crowd. Aspinall knows what to expect from this partisan Munich crowd and the best thing to do is get an early break and shut them up.
Quarter Final Struggles
This is Schindler’s eighth Euro Tour quarter final and he has lost six of the previous seven. Aspinall has played eighteen Euro Tour quarters and won six, so neither are prolific winners, but Aspinall is much more experienced in big matches.
Aspinall has won seven of his last ten matches, all big stage matches, Schindler has won six of his, half on the floor. He has played well here so far and so long as he doesn’t get ahead of himself and thinks about winning the title, he is in with a decent shout here.
Crowd Influence?
Their H2H record is 5-2 to Aspinall but Schindler won their last match 6-3 on the Euro Tour last year. That was also played in Germany, which begs the question, will the crowd make a difference?
They will, but it is not just a one way street. Schindler has the weight of expectation on his shoulders and he has struggled with that in the past. I will take Schindler, and the crowd, to make a match of this. Four of his quarter finals have seen over 9.5 legs, including two of the last three. Odds against is good enough.

Michael van Gerwen vs. Jermaine Wattimena
I was expecting a close match between MVG and Cullen but in the end it was exactly the opposite. 6-0 to Mighty Mike. Cullen was very poor, MVG was very good.
Wattimena beat Chisnall 6-5. It was a strange match. Chisnall slow out of the blocks and going 0-3 down. He squared it at 4-4 and 5-5 but he went missing again in the decider and Wattimena checked out with Chizzy way back on 201.
Wattimena averaged 95.33, his best average of his three matches played so far. He is the weakest player left in, and like in Belgium, I expect he will fall in the quarter final. He played well against Luke Littler in that match, a 102 average, but lost 2-6.
MVG Dominant
His record against MVG is 1-7. They have not played since 2020, and their two Euro Tour matches were in 2019 and 2017. MVG won them 6-0 and 6-1 respectively. This will be a measure of how much Wattimena has improved, and MVG has gone backwards, over that time.
A lot of the Dutch players still fear MVG more than the other nationalities. He is still seen as the best player in the world by his compatriots and sometimes, they just expect to get well beaten. In terms of legs played over their seven previous matches, it is 48-19 to Van Gerwen.
Van Gerwen is the 1.20 favourite, Wattimena 4.50. I expect MVG to want to put Wattimena in his place, and remind everyone, he is the big beast, at least of Dutch darts.
