2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy R2 Preview

James landed two winners last night, including a two pointer on Goldfinger. Hopefully we can land a few more this afternoon. His 2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy R2 preview is below.

Ricardo Pietreczko vs. Niels Zonneveld

Pietreczko has been made the outsider here, despite being runner up in the Flanders Darts Trophy two weeks ago. He lost both first round matches in midweek but played well against Steve Lennon. He has won five of his last ten and he seems to have emerged from the very poor form he was in for a while.

Zonneveld got a rare Euro Tour win when beating Sebastian Bialecki 6-5 yesterday. He too has won five of his last ten matches but he trails Pietreczko 1-4. Zonneveld has only ever won one second round match on the Euro Tour and he looks a false favourite to me.

Gian van Veen vs. Keane Barry

Barry won a poor match with Darren Beveridge 6-2 yesterday, a rare bright spot for him on the Euro Tour. He does usually win his first round matches, but he has lost his last four second round matches.

Gian van Veen is showing some better form, reaching the quarter final of PC21 on Wednesday, and he has won seven of his last ten matches. He is not at his best, but he is winning matches.

These two played last month and Van Veen won 6-4.

Daryl Gurney vs. Florian Hempel

Hempel came back from the dead to beat Callan Rydz 6-5 yesterday. Rydz was totally in control, but he gets so down on himself that just missing a double can fry his brains, and that is what happened yesterday. It was almost inevitable. Hempel averaged 91.72 and he will need to do better today. He has won six of his last ten and has been playing pretty well.

Gurney has won five of his last ten matches but he has been playing well enough lately, putting together some deep runs, including a Euro Tour semi-final at the start of the month.

Their H2H record is 2-1 to Hempel and all three matches ended 6-2. Another unders match? Rydz should have put Hempel to bed early yesterday, and Gurney is a tougher nut to crack.

2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy R2 Tip: 1 point under 9.5 legs @ 1.86 with Livescore

Chris Dobey vs. Scott Williams

Williams edged out Luke Woodhouse 6-5, despite averaging just 91.02. He has won five of his last ten matches and his scoring has generally been on the light side.

Dobey continues to play well, scores heavily but then throws in an under par performance and loses. He has won six of his last ten, hit four ton plus averages and three 96+. That standard beats Williams, but if he produces one of his duff efforts he could be beaten.

Dobey is the 1.40 favourite, Williams 3.20. Their H2H record extends to just one match, a 7-4 win for Williams in 2022. Time for Dobey to even the score.

Martin Schindler vs. Jim Williams

Williams made the most of his late call up to beat Alan Soutar 6-1, averaging 97.88. The part timer can hit hard when he is in the mood. He now faces an out of form Martin Schindler. The German has lost six of his last ten matches and his last four in a row.

Williams is an unpredictable beast and that is probably down to the fact that he is a part timer. He hits a lot of ton plus averages, but a lot of sub 90’s as well. He is very hard to predict.

I was going to back Williams at 2.30, but he is too risky. No bet.

2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy R2 Tip: No Bet
