2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday Preview

James kept things ticking over with a couple more winner this afternoon. Hopefully we can land a few more this evening. His 2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday preview is below.

Danny Noppert vs. Nathan Aspinall

Our bet on Ratajski to beat Aspinall last night came a cropper. Aspinall played well enough but Ratajski missed a lot of doubles and rolled over a bit too tamely. It was a big relief for Aspinall and a positive step in terms of his return from injury. He was pain free and he is under no pressure here, just playing for fun.

Noppert has lost five of his last ten matches, but he is playing some nice stuff. His last six games have seen five 98+ averages, but he still has that poor match in him.

Their H2H record is 11-8 to Aspinall, but Noppert has won both their matches in 2024 6-2. That was against the injured Aspinall. Now he is facing a fitter Aspinall, but one who has only played three matches in the last couple of months.

Noppert is the 1.73 favourite, Aspinall 2.20. I had a go with Ratajski last night, hoping competition rust would be too much for Aspinall. Once bitten, twice shy. No bet.

2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday Tip: No Bet

Damon Heta vs. Peter Wright

Heta has been playing some very good darts of late. He has won seven of his last ten matches, hit six ton plus averages, three 98+ and just one poor match with an 88 average.

Peter Wright somehow let Joe Cullen win five legs last night, despite averaging just 85. Wright averaged 96 and should have blitzed Cullen, but that is what can happen when you miss seventeen doubles.

Wright has won eight of his last ten matches but his scoring has not been a patch on Heta’s. Their H2H record is 8-3 to Wright but Heta won their latest match 7-4 in the World Series, both averaging 97.

Wright is a much more confident player than he was even a month ago, but if Heta can turn up with his A game, he will be hard to beat.

Heta is the 1.80 favourite, Wright 2.10. Heta just about gets the nod.

2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday Tip: 1 point Damon Heta to win @ 1.80 with SpreadEx, Betfred, Betvictor, BET365

Dave Chisnall vs. Jonny Clayton

Jonny Clayton was OK against Michael Smith, but Smith beat himself with poor doubling. The Ferret has won six of his last ten matches and he is playing OK, if not at his best.

Chisnall is in great shape, winning eight of his last ten matches, winning a title, reaching finals and mostly being consistent, when not on TV. Chisnall is 12-7 against Clayton and in 2024 it is 1-1. We are on Chisnall outright and I am happy to watch this in the hope that he can get past a tricky opponent. No bet.

2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday Tip: No bet

Gerwyn Price vs. Wessel Nijman

These two played in midweek and Price won it 6-5, with both averaging 99. Nijman has the game, but not the consistency, yet. Price has won eight of his last ten matches and Nijman seven. They have now met twice; Price has won both and both matches needed more than 9.5 legs.

Nijman is yet to progress beyond the second round on the Euro Tour, he has only played in four previous events, and Price will be hard to beat. Hopefully we get another close match.

2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday Tip: 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 2.10 with Betfair

Ross Smith vs. Raymond van Barneveld

Smith is the 1.62 favourite but he has lost six of his last ten matches and is showing a lot of inconsistency. He is certainly too risky at those sort of odds.

Barney is in worse form than Smith, losing seven of his last ten matches. He has only won one second round match in this year’s Euro Tour.

Smith is 2-0 vs. Van Barneveld, their last match a 6-5 win for Smudger in ET5. Two players who are losing a lot of matches does not make for a great betting opportunity. No bet.

2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday Tip: No Bet

Luke Humphries vs. Gabriel Clemens

Clemens smashed up a very poor Dirk van Duijvenbode 6-1 last night, but he now faces an in-form Humphries. In-form, but he has lost four of his last ten. It has taken something good to stop him, except for his last match on Wednesday, which he lost to Christian Kist. He is allowed the odd off day.

Their H2H record is 4-2 to Humphries and when they met in July, he won 6-0. He also beat Clemens 6-4 in April. I can’t see another 6-0, but Humphries should justify odds of 1.30. No bet.

2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday Tip: No Bet

Michael van Gerwen vs. Martin Lukeman

Lukeman beat Dolan 6-4 in a poor match. Lukeman has won five of his last ten matches but four have seen sub 90 averages and is he is far from being in his best form.

MVG has won nine of his last ten and comes here after winning his first ranking event of the season on Wednesday. He is in great form, but there are still some iffy performances.

Their H2H record is 2-1 to MVG. Lukeman beat MVG 6-1 on the Euro Tour in 2022. That was just one of those days were MVG couldn’t hit a double, and Lukeman hit everything.

I expect MVG to be a man on a mission this weekend. He will want to back up his Players Championship win with a much need Euro Tour win, and hitting form just as the big money events are coming.

2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday Tip: 1 point Michael van Gerwen to win -2.5 legs @ 1.80 with BET365, Betvictor

Rob Cross vs. Andrew Gilding

Birthday Boy, Rob Cross, is the 1.40 favourite. Gilding is 3.20 to spoil the party.

Cross has won six of his last ten matches and he is playing Ok, but not at his best. He took a month off and since he returned to action, he has played eight and won five.

Gilding only averaged 83.31 in a 6-3 win over Van den Bergh last night in a very poor match. He has won five of his last ten matches and had been playing some good stuff, but also some dross. Four of his last ten matches have seen sub 90 averages, but he has also had five 98+ averages, including a 114 when beating Nijman 6-1 on Tuesday.

Their H2H record is 2-1 to Gilding, including a 2-1 win in last year’s Grand Prix.

You do not know what you will get from Gilding at the moment, but if he brings his A game, about a 50% chance, he has a good chance of winning. If he brings that dross from last night, he will get stuffed. It is worth half a point, just in case.

2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday Tip: 0.5 point Andrew Gilding to win @ 3.20 with BET365

Formula 1 duties tomorrow, so no more darts coverage this weekend.
