2024 International Darts Open Finals Night Preview
James kept things ticking over with another couple of winners this afternoon. Two of our outright fancies are into the quarters, hopefully Dobey or Noppert can go all the way. James has another preview for this evening’s session. Check out his 2024 International Darts Open Finals Night tips below.
Martin Schindler vs. Danny Noppert
Schindy had no problems taking care of Richard Veenstra in the opening match of the afternoon session. It was a 6-1 win and a 97 average. That made it seven wins from his last ten and he is playing with a good deal of consistency.
Danny Noppert got a free pass against Nathan Aspinall, winning a very poor match 6-2. Noppert only averaged 85.9 but was able to stroll to an easy win as Aspinall missed fourteen doubles. Clearly, Noppert will need to up his game if he is to reach the semi-final.
Their H2H record points towards a Noppert win. The Dutchman is 4-0 and three of those matches were close, two 6-5s and a 10-8. Noppert has won nine of his last ten matches and this afternoon’s performance was uncharacteristically poor.
Hopefully Noppert can do the business and get us into a semi-final. He is the 1.73 favourite but I will not be betting on this match, just rooting for Noppy.

Ryan Searle vs. Chris Dobey
Heavy Metal edged out Damon Heta 6-5 this afternoon, averaging 97. That was his second last leg decider of the weekend, and his seventh win in his last ten.
Our other outright selection, Chris Dobey, won at a canter against a hopeless Gabriel Clemens. It was 6-0 win and a modest 94.9 average, but he was never tested and expended no energy in that match. Thirteen wins from his last fourteen matches means Dobey is full of confidence and in top form.
Their H2H record is 8-2 to Dobey, and he has won their last four in a row. Hopefully he can extend that run.
Like Noppert, Dobey is the 1.73 favourite, and like Noppert, I will not be betting on this match and I am hoping that Dobey can justify favouritism and join him in the semi-final, which would guarantee a slot in the final for one of them. Sod’s law says they both lose, but fingers crossed.

Stephen Bunting vs. Ritchie Edhouse
Bunting has done everyone a favour by knocking out Luke Humphries, but to be honest, Humphries was there for the taking. He looks to have run out of gas and a 92.2 average was testament to that.
Bunting only averaged 89.7 but he did play some good stuff at times. The Bullet has won six of his last ten matches but has not shown much consistency.
The Ritchie Edhouse band wagon rolls on. I have been guilty of being too cautious and backing on the handicaps, but a win is a win!
He averaged 103.5 against Rob Cross for his second win of the week against the former World Champion. He has won nine of his last ten matches and hit four ton plus averages in the last five. Edhouse is one of the form players still in the tournament. He has reached a Euro Tour semi-final once before, but he must be getting a bit excited about well it is going.
Bunting Leads H2H
Their H2H record is a comprehensive 9-2 to Bunting and it was Bunting who won their only match in 2024, 6-1, back in March. Edhouse was only 16% on the doubles that day and we should expect better from him tonight. He has beaten two World Champions back to back, beating Bunting would make it a hattrick. If he did win he could face another, Gerwyn Price in the semi-final.
There is the risk that Edhouse suddenly realises what he could do and that could be the end, but Bunting hasn’t been rock solid of late and Edhouse owes us nothing.

Gerwyn Price vs. Ross Smith
Gerwyn Price set a tournament record with a 115.74 average in a 6-3 win over Ricardo Pietreczko. He was 60% on the doubles, and when he is hitting the doubles, he wins. The only thing that might bother him is that he now faces Ross Smith, the last man to beat him in this event, back in 2020. A sign from God?
Ross Smith has had no luck at all for the last year or so, but he is getting that back in spades this weekend. He hasn’t turned up, but his two opponents have just rolled over from winning positions. He was 2-5 behind O’Connor and won and was 2-4 against Menzies and won 6-4. Smith has a tournament average of 90 and is in the quarter final. Very strange.
It will be even stranger if Smith can get a result tonight. He needs to find his A game, but he has a good record against Price, 4-3 in their career H2H and has won three of their last four.
All three of Price’s wins over Ross Smith have ended 6-3. If Price throws another ton plus average and Smith another 90, Smith might be lucky to get three legs, but I’ll give it a whirl to small stakes.
