2024 International Darts Open Sunday Preview
It was a profitable Saturday for James Punt’s loyal disciples. Six winners from six bets in the afternoon and another two winners in the evening session. Eight winners from ten bets overall, hopefully we have more of the same to come today. Check out his 2024 International Darts Open Sunday match previews below.
Richard Veenstra vs. Martin Schindler
I am sure Schindler would have preferred to play his match nearer the end of the afternoon session. The crowd will not be fully lubricated at 1pm local time and the volume button will not be set to eleven. However, he should have enough to get past Veenstra.
Schindler is very used to playing on the final day on the Euro Tour and even reached the semi-final last time out. It would be no surprise if he were to break his PDC title drought with a Euro Tour title. Schindy has won seven of his last ten matches and a 105 average against Joe Cullen last night underlines his good form.
Veenstra doesn’t have quite the same fire power as Schindler. He has won five of his last ten matches but this will be his first time in the third round of a European Tour event.
Schindler is the 1.50 favourite, but I’ll take the chance that he will be able to start cold and still produce the goods.
2024 International Darts Open Sunday Tip: 1 point Martin Schindler to win -1.5 legs @ 1.80 with Boylesports, Betfred, Hills
Nathan Aspinall vs. Danny Noppert
Noppert is one of our two remaining outright selections. He played well yesterday, beating Dimitri van den Bergh 6-4, averaging 100.91. That was good, but not as good as Nathan Aspinall’s 113.14 in his 6-2 win over Jonny Clayton.
Aspinall has won six of his last ten matches and the last time he won three matches in a row was in the German Darts Grand Prix last month. He is playing with a great deal of consistency. He has had nineteen consecutive averages of over 92.
Noppert has won nine of his ten matches and is also in top form, and almost as consistent as Aspinall.
Their H2H record is 11-7 to Aspinall. They met four times on the Euro Tour last year and both won two matches, three of which went over 9.5 legs.
Aspinall is the 1.80 favourite with Noppert 2.10. Those look about right to me, but with both players in good form, hopefully we get another high quality, long match.
2024 International Darts Open Sunday Tip: 1 point over 9.5 legs @1.91 with Ladbrokes, Boylesports
Damon Heta vs. Ryan Searle
Damon Heta ploughs on, winning six of his last ten matches and banking more ranking points. He didn’t have to get out of first gear to beat Callan Rydz 6-1 yesterday and his real work starts here. Heta has won six of his last ten matches and has been playing well on the whole.
Ryan Searle won a top quality contest with Daryl Gurney yesterday. It was a 6-5 win with both players averaging 98.7. Searle doesn’t have a great record on the Euro Tour, while Heta tends to make a lot of quarter finals. Heavy Metal is in good form, winning seven of his last ten matches.
Their H2H record is 3-1 to Searle, but Heta’s only win was a 6-5 win on the Euro Tour in 2022.
Heta is the 1.85 favourite, Searle 2.00. They have already met once this year, with Searle winning 6-3. This a hard call and it is a case of just leaving it alone, or expecting another close match.
2024 International Darts Open Sunday Tip: 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 1.91 with Boylesports
Gabriel Clemens vs. Chris Dobey
Dobey played his match against Ratajski while his beloved Newcastle Utd were giving Tottenham a bit of a football lesson. They were 2-0 up when he hit the stage, and Dobey followed them in with a 111 average and a 6-4 win, against an opponent who played very well. Dobey has now won twelve of his last thirteen matches and is in top form.
Clemens is not used to the giddy heights of Sunday on the Euro Tour. He got a bit of a free pass in his match with Dirk van Duijvenbode last night. The big Dutchman was really poor, averaging just 83.7. That was Clemens’ fifth win from his last twelve, but he isn’t playing well.
Dobey is 2-1 vs. Clemens and given his superior form, he should win this and justify odds of 1.48. We are on him outright and that is enough interest for me. No bet.
2024 International Darts Open Sunday Tip: No Bet
Luke Humphries vs. Stephen Bunting
Humphries had no trouble beating Jose De Sousa 6-2 last night. His only problem was gripping the darts. The venue, with some 5000 punters crammed in, got very humid and Cool Hand was more Sweaty Hand, but he still averaged 99.65.
Bunting was very strong in his 6-1 win over Michael Unterbuchner, averaging 101.5. That was his sixth win from his last ten matches.
These two last met in the UK open and Humphries won that 10-2. Overall, their H2H record is 7-4 to Humphries and in 2024 it is 1-1, with Bunting beating Humphries 10-7 at the Masters. That was while Humphries was having a bit of a post World Championship off spell.
Humphries is the 1.48 favourite and while it is tempting to take 1.75 for Humphries with a -1.5 handicap, it is a short match and Bunting is playing well. No bet.
2024 International Darts Open Sunday Tip: No Bet
Rob Cross vs. Ritchie Edhouse
If Edhouse has played a better match that he did against Michael Smith yesterday, I would be very surprised. He was under the cosh from a barrage of nine 180s from Smith, but he came from 2-4 down to win it with a 160 checkout. Magnificent.
Will he be able to keep it up? He has been playing well recently and has won nine of his last ten matches. He has had three ton plus averages in his last four.
Rob Cross only just beat Gian van Veen last night. It was a 6-5 win and not of the greatest quality. He has won five of his last ten matches and generally has played well.
All About Edhouse
This is very much about how Edhouse is mentally after that mega match yesterday. He looked stunned at the end of it and it will either have drained his batteries, or perhaps inspired him to greater heights. Given that he has been a tour card holder for some eight years and never won a title, I suspect it may be the former.
Their H2H record is 3-2 to Cross, but Edhouse won their last match, just last Monday, 6-3.
Cross is just 1.33 to win, and if Edhouse has spent his chips yesterday, he should, but with that very recent win, perhaps Edhouse will be feeling confident. I can’t not back him.
Edhouse is the 3.50 outsider, or 1.80 with a +2.5 leg Handicap.
2024 International Darts Open Sunday Tip: 1 point Edhouse to win + 2.5 legs @ 1.80 with Boylesports, Betfred
Gerwyn Price vs. Ricardo Pietreczko
Gerwyn Price’s remarkable record in the International Darts Open continued with a 6-4 win over Brendan Dolan last night. He now faces a German player on home soil.
Pietreczko needed a deciding leg to beat James Wade, and he hit a 98.26 average in doing so. Pietreczko has won five of his last ten matches, which reflects his lack of consistency. He did reach the semi-final in Belgium and of course, he won a Euro Tour event last year, so he can go deep.
Price is the 1.33 favourite and given the fact that he hits ton plus averages for fun, and his fantastic record at this venue, he should justify the odds, but it is a no bet for me.
2024 International Darts Open Sunday Tip: No Bet
Cameron Menzies vs. Ross Smith
You would have though Menzies had won the World Championship last night, and not a second round match on the Euro Tour. It was a good match vs. Josh Rock, apart from a bit of double trouble for both, and Menzies nicked it 6-5.
Ross Smith has not had much luck in 2024. He has so often played really well, only to lose to players who played out of their skin. Yesterday, he got a bit of payback.
He was 2-5 down to William O’Connor, but he manged to turn it around and win 6-5. It wasn’t a great match quality wise, but Smith will be feeling much better for the win. Smith has won seven of his last ten matches, he has been playing well on the floor and frankly, is due a good run.
Menzies is a much improved player, but still a bit of a fruit cake. He has won six of his last ten and he too has been playing well. Their H2H record is 5-2 to Smith and he has won their last three.
Smith is the 1.62 favourite to win but I’ll take him on the handicap as most of his wins against Menzies have been comfortable.
