2024 Kempton Lanzarote Hurdle Ante-Post Tip
Another good day for us on Saturday. We lost Naas to the fog but thankfully, Plumpton survived. We nicked a place with our first bet Special Acceptance at odds of 11/1. Our 18/1 NAP, Godot, was sent off at just 5/1 and he got the job done (Just about) under a power packed ride by Stan Sheppard. This weekend the main betting race is the 2024 Kempton Lanzarote Hurdle and Dave Stevos is hoping to keep our good run going. His ante-post selection is below.
Saturday 2.40 Kempton – Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle (class 2)
Last year, we backed Up For Parol at odds of 25/1 for this race. My reason for backing him was that he was 4lbs lower than when a staying on sixth in it the year before. In 2022 he was off 133, last year he ran into 3rd off 129 and Jamie Snowden is back to try and make it third time lucky in 2024 off 126.
Last year Gavin Sheehan rode him and the ground was soft. It was his first run back of the season and Sheehan always had him close to the pace. He led between the last two hurdles but he got reeled in by West Balboa and Red Risk who finished just under 4L ahead of him. There was a 9L gap back to Green Glory in 4th so it was a seriously good run.
Solid Form
West Balboa was running off 130 that day and she has since won off 135 and is now rated 143. Red Risk has since placed in G2 company so the form is solid. Up For Parol lost his way in three runs since but he shaped much better on his seasonal return at Fontwell back in November. He was beat 1.5L on heavy ground off 127 and the handicapper generously dropped him to 126.
I’d imagine this race has been his long term target. He goes well fresh so the 55 day break since his last run is a plus and we know this track suits him well. Good to soft ground is fine, as is soft, so there should be no issues regarding the ground. He is a pound below his last winning mark and I was very surprised to see him chalked up at 33/1 for this year’s renewal. At those odds, Up For Parol is well worth backing each way.
