2024 Masters Darts Finals Night Preview
Both our match bets this afternoon lost, but Stephen Bunting did the business, landing our 8.00 bet on him to win his quarter. MVG cruised through too so our outright winner bet remains alive too. Fingers crossed he lifts the trophy later, check out James Punt’s 2024 Masters Darts Finals Night tips below.
Stephen Bunting vs. Nathan Aspinall
It was the expected stroll in the park for Bunting this afternoon. He averaged 101 in the end but he was only in third gear at the conclusion of a one sided match, ending 10-2.
It was a very good display from Bunting who continues to fire in big combination out shots. He looks very dangerous and his job now is to stay in the moment and not think about winning the title.
Bunting played in four semi-finals in 2023 and only won one. Since the start of 2021, Bunting has played in ten semi-finals and won just two. He has form for coming up short in the semis.
Double Trouble
Nathan Aspinall fell over the line in his quarter final with a disappointing Daryl Gurney. Aspinall was well in control of the match but had a meltdown on the outer ring, missing twenty one consecutive doubles.
Gurney took advantage to move into an 8-6 lead having been 3-6 down. Sadly, Superchin’s scoring dried up, far too many treble less visits, and eventually Aspinall found his range on the doubles and just got it done 10-9. It was a 91.5 average but there was little wrong with his scoring, just the doubling.
Their H2H record is very close, 5-4 to Bunting and in 2023 he was 2-0. One of those wins was a 6-5 first round win here. Both of Aspinall’s performances against Bunting last year were marked by….poor doubling. On both occasions his checkout rate was under 27%.
Bunting Playing Better
There is no doubt that Bunting is playing better darts right now, and he should win if he can keep it up…but the question is, can Bunting keep his head screwed on? Or has he lost so many semi-finals that he will get too tight to play the way he has so far?
Bunting is the 1.48 favourite with Aspinall 3.00. Aspinall’s win over Gurney was not pretty and it will have taken quite a bit out of him. So long as Bunting can just play the way he has been doing for quite a while now, he really should win and he should win big.
I am not his biggest fan at this stage of a tournament and it is hard to back him, but this is an excellent opportunity to make a final.

Michael van Gerwen vs. Dimitri van den Bergh
It was an easy 10-4 win for MVG against Chizzy in the semi-final. Chisnall didn’t play badly, he struggled on the doubles, but was never really in the match, such was Van Gerwen’s level of control.
This will be Van Gerwen’s sixth Masters semi-final, and he has won the previous five. He is in great from, winning eight of his last ten matches and he is looking close to his best.
Van den Bergh was doing his right things at the right time thing against Heta, but he was aided and abetted by the Aussie playing poorly, especially on the outer ring. Both players checked out at sub 28% and Van den Bergh was able to win 10-7 despite averaging just 87. It was rubbish really.
Sub 90 Average
Van den Bergh is averaging 89.67 for the tournament and he can’t keep getting away with mediocrity. His H2H record against MVG is appalling, 1-19. Their last best of 21 leg match was last year when MVG won 11-6 in the UK Open semi-final.
Would I be surprised to see something similar? No. MVG is in great form, Van den Bergh is stealing matches he shouldn’t have any right to win or getting lucky with poor opponents.
Van Gerwen is the 1.22 favourite, Van den Bergh 4.50. I’ll have play on the handicap, I’m bound to get one right in the end, surely.
