Josh Rock vs. Rob Cross

It is a case of Groundhog Day at the darts today, with a lot of repeat matches from last weekend, starting with this one. Last week it was Josh Rock who was the 6-4 winner, but it is Cross who has the lead in their H2Hs, leading 4-2.

They have met four time on the Euro Tour and Cross is 3-1 in those. Cross is in better form, winning seven of his last ten matches and he hit a ton when beating Andrew Gilding 6-2. Rock wasn’t great in his 6-3 win over Wattimena.

Luke Humphries vs. Luke Littler

The H2H record here is telling. They first met in the World Championship final on the 3rd of January 2024. Humphries won that with a great come from behind performance. Since then, they met ten times, and Littler has won eight. Seven required a deciding leg.

Littler was dicking about against the local qualifier last night, but I expect him to be all business today. He is the 1.80 favourite, which seems generous given that H2H record.

Stephen Bunting vs. Martin Schindler

Another repeat from last weekend, when Bunting won 6-4, despite a 89 average. He has won seven of his last ten matches and is playing with reasonably good consistency, until he gets to the quarter final stage.

Schindler has won eight of his last ten matches but is nowhere near as consistent as Bunting.

Their H2H record is 8-6 to Bunting, he has won their last four in a row, and on the Euro Tour he is 3-0.

Ross Smith vs. Raymond van Barneveld

Smith was the 6-2 winner last weekend and he is 3-0 in career H2Hs. Two matches ended 6-2 and the other 6-5. Smith is the 1.62 favourite. Barney has failed to get beyond the third round in the 2024 Euro Tour.

Cameron Menzies vs. Callan Rydz

Menzies has made the third round twice in Europe this season and lost both matches. It is a big match for Menzies as a win here and he gets a provisional place in the European Championships. Rydz would need to reach the final. He has a win rate of 71% in 2024 but his consistency has been a bit so-so of late.

Rydz is making his first appearance in the third round for quite some time. He has won both his previous matches against Menzies, but the 2024 Menzies is a much better player.

Who will be the mentally stronger player/ The under pressure Menzies or the self-destructive Rydz? Menzies is the 1.50 favourite, Rydz 3.00. The odds look correct to me. No bet.

James Wade vs. Wessel Nijman

Nijman is looking increasingly confident. That, allied to his talent, makes him a real candidate to win the title, never mind this match. Wade’s work is done, he has secured his place in the finals, so he will be relaxed. Nijman needs to win to get a provisional spot in the finals. Both players are playing well and this looks like it could be close.

These two have only met once, with Wade winning 6-3. Nijman had a bit of a stinker that day, with a sub 90 average thanks to missing ten doubles.

Nijman is the 1.75 favourite, Wade 2.20.

Wade has won eight of his last ten matches and he remains a top player when fully engaged, as he is now.

Madars Razma vs. Ryan Searle

Razma was a good winner for us yesterday. He had to survive match darts against him, but he had controlled most of his match with Heta.

Searle is a bit of a Euro Tour specialist these days and made the semi-final last weekend. He reaches quarter finals for fun while Razma rarely gets this far and he is under the pressure to win this match to get a toe hold in the provisional final slots.

Searle is the 1.40 favourite, Razma 3.20.

In Razma’s favour is that he is 3-2 vs. Searle and has won their last three in a row, including a 6-3 win on the Euro Tour back in May. He is 2-0 against Searle in Europe winning 6-1 and 6-3.  Razma owes us nothing and I will take another chance on him.

Nathan Aspinall vs. Daryl Gurney

I think we can forget about Aspinall’s lack of match fitness. Instead, think of him as fresh, and hungry. He ended our hopes of a big pay day by beating a very disappointing Dave Chisnall 6-3 and averaged a ton in doing so.

Superchin was OK in a 6-2 win over a disappointing Karel Sedlacek, and he has won six of his last ten matches and is 7-5 against Aspinall. They have had many close matches with six of their eight best of eleven leg matches going over 9.5 legs.
