2024 WC Darts Monday Night Preview & Tips
What an afternoon that was. Rob Cross fought back from 4-0 down to beat Chris Dobey 5-4 and he landed two winners for us in the process. Then Luke Littler landed our 5-1 bet at odds of 7/2 vs Dolan. Not a bad day so far, check out James Punt’s 2024 WC Darts Monday night previews and tips below.
Michael van Gerwen vs. Scott Williams
This will be MVG’s ninth quarter final and he has won seven of his previous eight. His only loss was a 0-5 thrashing by Dave Chisnall in 2021.
His tournament average so far is 99.67, his checkout rate is a very impressive 56% and he is hitting the 180s at 0.39 per leg. Good stats, all above his seasonal averages. He is yet to drop a set which is fair enough vs. Veenstra and Barry, but he did a job on the in-form Stepehen Bunting in the fourth round.
New Territory
Williams has only ever played in five Major Championships before and never gone beyond the third round in any. He is revelling in the atmosphere and playing to gallery.
Not being the shy, retiring type, he won’t be intimidated by MVG and in many respects, his work is done. He shouldn’t be feeling any pressure, or won’t, unless he gets a chance to win.
Williams has a tournament average of 93.66, a checkout rate of 45% and is hitting the 180s at 0.31 per leg. Good stats, but shy of his opponent.
MVG Hot Fav
MVG is the 1.10 favourite to win, with Williams 8.00. MVG has hardly even had a wobble so far, but he has yet to be put under any real pressure. The question is, can Williams put him under any pressure?
They have only met once, in a floor match in September, which MVG won 6-2. MVG has had six of his quarter finals end with under 7.5 sets. Sadly that is reflected in the odds of just 1.38.
Half have ended with under 6.5 sets and given that he has yet to drop a set and is likely to be outscoring Williams, a 5-0 or 5-1 result is not out of the question.

Luke Humphries vs. Dave Chisnall
Somehow, Luke Humphries is still in the tournament. Joe Cullen had multiple darts to win their epic fourth round match. Humphries once again went 0-2 down but managed to come back to win the match. He has been living dangerously and he needs to find his A-game or he is out.
Humphries has still yet to hit a ton plus average at Ally Pally. He was all but there against Cullen. That was a 99.23 average despite the final leg which took about 300 darts to win.
Come Of Age
Humphries has played in three quarter finals here and lost them all. He has come of age in 2023, winning three majors, but he hasn’t ever hit his high notes at The Palace. He has won his last 16 matches, so at the very least, he is proving to be very hard to beat.
His tournament average is only 94.67, well below his 2023 seasonal average of 98.23. His checkout rate is just 36% and he is hitting 180s at 0.32 per leg. Cool Hand’s game is not quite there.
Quarter Final Veteran
Dave Chisnall is a veteran of three World Championship quarter finals, of which he has won one. His form so far hasn’t been outstanding, averaging 95, checking out at 39% and hitting 180s at 0.31 per leg. Not a lot better than Humphries.
Chizzy lost two quarter finals to Gary Anderson and then beat MVG 5-0 in the famous match of 2021. It is Chisnall’s record in majors, at the business end of tournaments, which is the biggest concern.
He has never won a TV event in his long career and he has lost twenty three quarter finals, nine semi-finals and six finals. At some point that record is going to be at the front of his mind.
Chizzy Leads H2H
The one thing Chizzy has going for him here, is his record against Humphries. He is 10-5 up, 2-1 on TV and 4-1 in 2023. All five of their matches in 2023 have been finals, one Players Championship and four Euro Tour finals. That will be in Humphries’ head.
Can Chisnall buck the trend of his majors record and beat the very hard to beat Humphries? Can Humphries finally hit a ton plus average at the Palace and improve on a poor H2H record against Chisnall?
This is a hard call. Humphries has ridden his luck, he may have used up all the luck he is going to get, and he needs to start playing better. Chisnall has to try and forget his abysmal major record.
Take On Humphries
We have 3 points on Humphries to win the title but he looks worth opposing here at the odds. Humphries is the 1.44 favourite and Chisnall the 3.00 outsider.
If they were playing to their seasonal averages than, OK, the odds are about right, but Humphries has been off his game. Chisnall hasn’t been great but he is closer to his ‘normal’ standard.
I don’t see Chisnall winning the title, but so long as he can just play the man and not get ahead of himself, he is perfectly capable of beating Humpries. I am happy to hedge.
2024 WC Darts Monday night tip: 1 point Dave Chisnall to win @ 3.00 with Betvictor
Looking at their three matches on TV, all three were close. 10-8, 10-9 and 5-4 were the scores and with Humphries proving to be, if nothing else, very resilient, we could well see another close one.
