2024 WC Darts Sunday Afternoon Preview & Tips

We were the width of a bullseye wire from potentially collecting on both our bets last night. However, Anderson cleaned up 116 and we ended up coming away empty handed. James Punt is looking to bounce back immediately. his 2024 WC Darts Sunday Afternoon previews and tips are below.

Ricky Evans vs. Simon Adams

This looks like another first round mismatch. It is a good draw for Evans and he is the 1.15 favourite to progress to the next round.

‘Slightly less Rapid than he used to be’ Evans has won five of his last ten matches and that ties in with an annual win rate of 50%. There is no great deal of consistency in his performances and you might get an 87 average, or a 97.

Adams is the African representative this year. The 56 year old is making his debut having won the African qualifier, averaging 94 in the final. His seasonal average is just 76 but he has prepared by coming to the UK to play in the Modus Super Series, playing 27 matches and winning 9.

His highest average was 103.2 and lowest a 66.9, which ironically was in a match he won. He did get wins over two other players playing in this event, Marko Kantele and Ben Robb, but he is playing Ricky Evans, so that doesn’t matter.

It is not a match which holds any interest betting wise.

2024 WC Darts Sunday Afternoon Tip: No Bet

Jim Williams vs. Norman Madhoo

Here we have another complete mismatch with Williams a 1.03 favourite. Many bookies are not even entertaining any bets on Williams. The Welshman winning 3-0 is just 1.15. I’ll not waste any more time on this. No bet.

Matt Campbell vs. Lourence Ilagan

We’re getting close to a competitive match here. Campbell is playing in his fifth World Championship and he is yet to win a match. He has lost five of his last ten matches and is struggling for consistency.

He has actually played quite well in his World Championship matches and only lost one 0-3. Three saw averages not far shy of 95 and he is probably due a win.

Ilagan is another player to have played at Ally Before, no less than seven times. He beat Rowby-John Rodriguez 3-2 in his first round match last year, his only other win was against Jamie Lewis in 2012. He has played in six Asian Tour finals in 2023, winning two. His seasonal average is 86.2 and his best TV average is 95.5.

Campell’s seasonal average is only 90.7, so he is not night and day the better player. The Canadian is 1.54 favourite and rightly so. His A-game is better than Ilagan’s and so long as he plays above his seasonal average, he wins. If he has a bad day than it could get messy.

2024 WC Darts Sunday Afternoon Tip: 1 point Matt Campbell to win -1.5 sets @ 2.10 with Ladbrokes, Fitzdares

Joe Cullen vs. Darren Penhall

Cullen’s once famously bad record at Ally Pally has improved in recent years, but much more of a worry is that he has lost eight of his last ten matches and hit six sub 90 averages.

He has had a few weeks to prepare, get on the practice board, play some exhibitions to try and find some form. Coming to a venue where his record is played nineteen, won seven, on top of poor recent form could make things difficult for Cullen.

Darren Penhall has ticked his Ally Pally box, got a win and said that this is his last event in professional darts. He is under no pressure whatsoever.

He averaged 91.29 in his 3-1 win over the fancied Jules van Dongen. That is not an earth shattering average, but it is good enough to cause Cullen problems if he is still struggling for form.

Cullen is the 1.29 favourite which is very dismissive of Penhall’s chances and overrates Cullen’s form.

2024 WC Darts Sunday Afternoon Tip: 1 point Darren Penhall to win +1.5 sets @ 2.30 with Fitzdares
