2025 Austrian GP Qualifying Preview
Now, it is time for James Punt’s 2025 Austrian GP Qualifying preview. He has already posted his outright betting preview for the race, you can check that out here.
2025 Austrian GP Qualifying
It has been interesting so far. The one missing factor for most of free practice was the heat. It was ‘only’ in the mid-twenties yesterday and the track was hotter than 43 degrees at the start of FP1 but by the end down to 37 and in FP2, 35 degrees.
The sun came out a few minutes into FP3 this morning and the track temperature went from 33 degrees to 41 by the end of the session. It may be warmer still this afternoon, and tomorrow is due to be HOT. It was enough for Toto Wollf to wave the white flag and say that their performance was depleted by the temperature rise.
McLaren have been fastest in FP2 and FP3. Norris sat out FP1 but has been the faster of the two drivers so far, confirming that this is a track where he excels. Piastri was +0.118s back in second place, Verstappen third at +0.210s and Leclerc at +0.250s, the only other driver to be within +0.40 of Norris.
This is the shortest lap on the calendar, so a tenth of a second is a bigger deal. The Mercedes’ were just about +0.70 off the pace, which is an age around here.
The battle for pole does look to be between the two McLarens, Verstappen and maybe Leclerc. Norris is my driver to follow this weekend and is enough value for a bet.
2025 Austrian GP Qualifying Tip: 1 point Lando Norris to be the fastest qualifier @ 2.25 with Livescorebet
I will also have tickle on Charles Leclerc simply because his odds are huge and with a bookmaker offering e/w terms for the first three drivers. Leclerc is a one lap specialist and while the car is unlikely to match the McLaren, he might be able to edge out Verstappen and nick the final pay out place.
2025 Austrian GP Qualifying Tip: 0.5 points e/w Charles Leclerc to be fastest qualifier @ 51.00 with Boylesports (1/5 the odds 1-3)
Our ante post selections are looking OK, with the exception of Hadjar who was last in FP3 and has got further off the pace in each session. Bortoleto has been top ten in all three. Norris is looking strong for the race and qualifying, Hulkenberg for a top 10 finish is still realistic, as is Alonso’s chance of the same, but he has been slower than Lance Stroll in each session so far. Could the hapless Canadian finally outqualify Alonso for the first time in 2025? He might well, but odds of just 2.32 are not enough to get me interested. Alonso is 1.72 to continue his dominance.
Back tomorrow for the Race Day Update.
