2025 Flanders Darts Trophy Friday preview

Jermanine Wattimena vs. Leon Weber

Wattimena won his first PDC title just before the summer break. He returned to action on Monday and Tuesday winning just two matches in an ordinary fashion. Weber lost both his first round matches at the players championships and he has lost his last four in a row.

Weber has played in one euro tour event in 2025, beating Ryan Joyce in the first round of ET6. Wattimena has played in all nine euro tour events this year and won six first round matches.

Wattimena is the 1.29 favourite, Weber 4.00. Understandable. They have met twice before in 2025, both on the floor. Wattimena won both 6-2. Wattimena is very shot and even giving up -1.5 legs, still just 1.50. I will bet on history repeating itself to small stakes.

0.5 point Wattimena to win 6-2 @ 5.75 with Unibet

Dylan Slevin vs. Francois Schweyen

A call up from the reserve list vs. a local qualifier. I was looking at the results of the local qualifiers here last year. They all lost. I looked at the local qualifiers for the Belgian Open for the last two years. They all lost.

Francois Schweyen averages 87.95 in 2025. His season has consisted of two euro tour local qualifiers and won euro tour match. He qualified for the Belgian Darts Open at the start of the season and took Wessel Niman to a deciding leg. His matches in 2025 have been solid mid 80’s with a couple of 90+. He can give Slevin a match.

Dylan Slevin is averaging 91.36 in 2025. Nothing special and he has lost 53% of his matches. He last lost five of his last ten but he rarely gets thrashed, and Schweyen is not likely to do that, but he could make it another close euro tour match. Slevin won his only euro tour first round match this year 6-4 vs. Steve Beaton.

Luke Woodhouse vs. Johan Engstrom

Engstrom has played eleven euro tour first round matches and won just two. One of his nine defeats was to Luke Woodhouse, a 3-6 loss at the European Darts Grand Prix in May. He can play, but rarely brings his A game to the stage.

Woodhouse is not in great form, playing with no consistency and losing four of his last ten. His B game should be enough to win and his A game, to win easily.  Woodhouse has played nine first round matches in 2025 and won seven.

Woodhouse is the 1.36 favourite, Engstrom 3.50. I will take Woodhouse to cover a -1.5 handicap.

1 point Woodhouse to win -1.5 legs @ 1.65 with Ladbrokes

Lukas Wenig vs. Kim Huybrechts

I mentioned earlier that the Belgian qualifiers have not had a good time on home soil. This time it is the experienced Kim Huybrechts who is trying to change that trend. He remains a fierce competitor, but his game is in poor shape. He has won eight of his last ten matches, but five of those were in yesterday’s qualifier, and he wasn’t up against much. He is averaging 92 in 2025 and he still has his moments. One was a 104.86 average in the first round of ET4 when he played a local qualifier and won 6-0. He has played four first round matches in 2025 and won two.

Wenig plays to a similar standard to Huybrechts. Not very consistent but occasionally shoots the lights out. He had a career high finish a few weeks ago when he was runner up to Jermaine Wattimena in PC23. He beat Gurney and Nijman along the way. He has won six of his last ten matches and he has played a lot of euro tour events, fifteen in total since 2019, and won just five first round matches. He is now a tour card holder and is improving.

These two have met three times and Wenig has won two. Both their matches in 2025 were over 9.5 legs.

1 point over 9.5 legs @ 1.90 with Ladbrokes

Krzysztof Ratajski vs. Steve Lennon

Lennon will lose his tour card at the end of this season unless he has a very strong finish to the year. His win rate in 2025 is just 43% and he has lost five of his last ten matches.

Ratajski qualified vis the reserve list and this is a big chance for him to move into the top 32 in the European Championship OOM (he is currently 33rd). He has only played in five events on the 2025 euro tour and reached one quarter final, but he has previously won two euro tour titles.

Ratajski is in decent form, winning seven of his last ten matches and playing with a decent level of consistency.

Their H2H record is 7-4 to Ratajski. They have met twice in 2025 and it is 1-1. Both were very one side affairs, Ratajski winning 6-1 back in February, Lennon 6-2 in June.

Ratajski is the 1.40 favourite, Lennon 3.20. Could this be another one sided affair?  Ratajski has covered a 1.5 leg handicap in all seven of his wins over Lennon.

1 point Ratajski to win -1.5 legs @ 1.73 with Ladbrokes

Cameron Menzies vs. Christian Kist

Menzies has gone off the boil compared to his game earlier in the year. He made three players championship finals in the first four months of the year and won one in April. He reached a couple of euro tour quarter finals but since his last on the 1st June, he has been treading water. He has won seven of his last ten but hasn’t impressed. Menzies has played eight first round matches and won six.

Kist is a fringe player these days and his 2025 win rate is just 36%. He has lost eight of his last ten matches and lost his last five euro tour matches, going back to 2017.

An off the boil Menzies should be good enough to justify odds of 1.40. Kist is the 3.10 outsider. This match makes little appeal betting wise. No bet.

Andrew Gilding vs. Mensur Suljovic

This match should have a glacial pace, but that will suit both players. It might not be a great watch if you like your darts played at pace.

Suljovic has lost seven of his last ten matches but occasionally he does hit some big averages. He has played three euro tour events and won just one match in 2025.

Gilding has lost six of his last ten matches, and four of his last five. Four of his last seven matches have seen sub 90 averages.

Two players out of form is not for me. No bet.

Gian van Veen vs. Adam Gawlas

Gawlas was once seen as a bright young thing and a good prospect, but he lost his tour card at the end of last year after losing his form. He is averaging 85.79 these days, playing on the Development Tour, Modus darts and Challenge Tour. He plays a lot of darts, just not as well as he used to.

Van Veen is the current bright young thing and is still on the rise. His most recent form is OK, winning six of his last ten matches, but he is not playing his best stuff. He has played seven first round matches in 2025 and won six, only losing to the mighty Boris Krcmar.

These two have played four times, all Development Tour matches, and Van Veen won three. One player has become a star, the other fallen away.

Van Veen is the shortest Priced favourite of the session at 1.22, Gawlas is 5.50. Van Veen is 1.73 to cover a -2.5 leg Handicap, but Gawlas is no mug and there is no great value here. No bet.
