2025 German Darts Championship Saturday Preview
It was a mixed bag for James Punt this afternoon. Check out his 2025 German Darts Championship Saturday preview below.
Ross Smith vs. Nathan Aspinall
The Asp averaged 103.78 last night, nearly twenty points better than his opponent, but he still couldn’t cover the -3.5 leg handicap bet. It was another performance which tells us that Aspinall is back in top form. He has won eight of his last ten matches and is looking good.
Ross Smith’s form is understandably all over the place after the recent passing of his mother. Smith won PC29 three weeks ago but since then he has played five and lost four. He has lost seven of his last ten matches on the Euro Tour.
Their H2H record is 6-4 to Smith and he is 2-0 in 2025, both 6-3 wins on the floor. Aspinall has tended to struggle on his doubles against Smith and that has tipped the balance.
Aspinall is the 1.91 favourite, Smith 2.05. Both are big 180 hitters and their last two Euro matches have produced 18 maximums from 19 legs.
2025 German Darts Championship Saturday Tip: 1 point over 6.5 180s @ 1.82 with Livescorebet
Jonny Clayton vs. Raymond van Barneveld
Barney was complaining of feeling fatigued after his 6-3 win over Kevin Troppmann. He only averaged 85.70 and he did look very flat and suffering with the heat. Barney has won four of his last six but he is not in good form.
The Ferret has won six of his last ten matches. He was bit off in the midweek tournaments, but he had just had a run to the semi-final of the Grand Prix a couple of days before. He has been winning plenty of matches recently and this is well within his grasp.
Their H2H record is 3-2 to Barney and he beat Clayton 6-2 in their only match in 2025. That was on the Euro Tour back in April.
Clayton is the 1.40 favourite, Barney 3.50. That looks about right and I will go with a handicap bet.
2025 German Darts Championship Saturday Tip: 1 point Clayton to win -1.5 legs @ 1.70 with Boylesports
Gerwyn Price vs. Christian Kist
Kist beat Gurney 6-2 yesterday. It was a strange one. Gurney was on fire at the start, going 2-0 with 26 darts, but then Kist won six in a row, without really playing that well. He hit his doubles well and it was all very easy in the end.
Price has won seven of his last ten matches and while he is not at his consistent best, he should be too good for Kist. They have played three times and Price has won all three, albeit they were some time ago.
Price is the 1.22 favourite, Kist 4.50. It is not a match which has much interest to me. No bet.
2025 German Darts Championship Saturday Tip: No Bet
James Wade vs. Jermaine Wattimena
Wattimena continued with his fine run of good form with a 105.61 average and a 6-2 win over Keane Barry. Wattimena has won thirteen of his last fourteen matches and is in top form.
James Wade has won five of his last ten matches but four of his last seven have seen sub 90 averages and his consistency is not great right now.
Their H2H record is 7-3 to Wade, but Wattimena has won their last two and both were on TV. There was a 10-9 win in last year’s European Championship and he followed that up with a 3-0 win in the World Championship.
Wattimena is the 1.91 favourite, Wade 2.10. We have a bet on Wattimena outright but he looks decent value to win this.
2025 German Darts Championship Saturday Tip: 1 point Jermaine Wattimena to win @ 1.91 with Boylesports
Chris Dobey vs. Dirk van Duijvenbode
Chris Dobey has reached a couple of recent Players Championship quarter finals and he has won six of his last ten matches. He has played some excellent stuff, but his consistency is never great. He has reached three Euro Tour quarter finals and a semi-final but he has also lost seven second round matches. You just do not know what you are going to get with Dobey.
Dirk van Duijvenbode hit his first stage 9 darter last night and I though he was going to do himself an injury. He was rather chuffed. He went on to beat Sedlacek 6-4 and it was a good performance with a 101.31 average. Dirk has won six of his last ten matches.
Their H2H record is 9-6 to Dobey. In 2025 it is 2-2 and 1-1 on the 2025 Euro Tour. Their matches have tended to be quite close and they have produced a lot of maximums. In 2025 they have played forty five legs and hit thirty five 180s at 0.78 per leg. With neither player being banker material, I am happy to have a bet on total 180s.
2025 German Darts Championship Saturday Tip: 1 point over 6.5 180s @ 2.10 with Boylesports
Martin Schindler vs. William O’Connor
O’Connor still has a slim hope of making the finals, but he will be right up against it here. Schindler is beatable, but the crowd will be hostile.
The Magpie beat Andrew Gilding 6-4 in round one and it was a decent performance and O’Connor has won seven of his last ten matches and he is playing OK. He has played four second round matches in 2025 and lost three, the last three.
Schindler has lost five of his last ten matches and he is not at his best. He has hit five sub 90 averages in those last ten. Schindler does have a very good record in Euro Tour second round matches in 2025, winning twelve from thirteen. He has lost nine third round matches, and O’Connor may be meeting Schindler in the wrong round.
They have played each other four times, Schindler has won three. O’Connor’s only win was a 6-0 win in their only Euro Tour match.
Schindler is the 1.80 favourite, O’Connor 2.30. If it wasn’t a second round Euro Tour match, being played in Germany, I would take a chance on O’Connor. But this might be a case of wrong time, wrong place for the Irishman. No bet.
2025 German Darts Championship Saturday Tip: No Bet
Josh Rock vs. Ricky Evans
Ricky Evans took advantage of his reserve list call up and beat Joe Cullen 6-2. It didn’t take much doing, to be honest, but a win is a win and he is under no pressure, just free rolling, ready to take any chances that come his way. He has only won three of his last ten matches, but one of those rare wins was a 6-5 win over Rock on Tuesday. Evans averaged 100.87 in that match.
Josh Rock has lost five of his last ten matches and his best performance was a 103.82 average in that 5-6 loss to Evans. A chance for revenge, or will history repeat itself?
Their H2H record is 3-1 to Evans and maybe we should not be surprised. Rock is one of the few players that plays at the pace that Evans loves.
2025 German Darts Championship Saturday Tip: 1 point Ricky Evans to win @ 4.50 with Livescorebet
Stephen Bunting vs. Ryan Joyce
Joyce was on fire in his 6-2 win over Justin Hood. It was a 104.24 average and he is a very dangerous player when he gets his scoring boots on. Joyce has won six of his last ten matches but last night’s performance was out of the top drawer.
Bunting won the Swiss Darts Trophy three weeks ago, had a bit of an injury scare at the Grand Prix, but put those worries to bed with back-to-back semi-finals in the midweek tournaments. He has won ten of his last twelve matches and he is taking some stopping.
Their H2H record is 5-3 to Bunting and he has won their last three, all in major championships.
Bunting is the 1.40 favourite with Joyce 3.20. We have backed Bunting outright and this is going to be a real test. Bunting tends to go deep or go home. He has won two titles and had three quarter finals, but he has lost five second round matches.
I have a lot of respect for Joyce’s game and when he is on it, he can beat anyone, so I am to take some cover and back Joyce.
