2025 German Darts Championship Sunday Preview
James Punt fired in five brilliant winners from six bets on Saturday night. Check out his 2025 German Darts Championship Sunday preview below.
Gerwyn Price vs. Danny Noppert
Price is 14-5 against Noppert overall and 2-1 on the Euro Tour. He was the more impressive of the two players yesterday, averaging 100 in a 6-1 thrashing of Christian Kist.
Noppert beat Luke Woodhouse 6-3 in a scrappy affair which saw Noppert average 88.56. Both players have won seven of their last ten matches, and while he is not at his best, Price is playing better.
Price has played Noppert twice in 2025 and won both quite comfortably, 6-2 and 7-3. He is the 1.50 favourite to win but I will back him to win with something in hand.
2025 German Darts Championship Sunday Tip: 1 point Gerwyn Price to win -1.5 legs @ 1.85 with Boylesports
Jonny Clayton vs. Gian Van Veen
Van Veen overcame a bad H2H record to beat Niels Zonneveld 6-4, with both averaging 98. It was a proper game of darts and Van Veen looked very good. Clayton had an easier time beating RVB 6-3 and it was a decent performance, but nothing special on a night where a mid-90’s average was made to look poor. Clayton has won four of his last five third round matches and in the second half of the season, his Euro Tour form is good.
Van Veen seems to inspire people to play well against him, and I have come to expect that he will face a ton plus average from whomever he plays. He has started to have good runs on a more regular basis on the Euro Tour and has won three of his last four Euro Tour 3rd rounds.
Their H2H record is 2-1 to Clayton and all three matches went over 9.5 legs, including a 6-4 win for Clayton in ET9 in July, their last meeting. They have always produced a high standard of darts between them and hopefully we get another close match, but with Van Veen coming out on top this time.
2025 German Darts Championship Sunday Tip: 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 2.10 with Betfair
Steve Lennon vs. Nathan Aspinall
Lennon won the deciding leg against Damon Heta after the Aussie had missed three match darts. He also missed two match darts in the tenth leg and it is safe to say that Lennon used up a lot of luck in that win, his first ever second round match. Maybe now that he has got that monkey off his back, he can relax and play better. He will need to.
Aspinall is officially on fire. He averaged 107.53 in a 6-4 win over Ross Smith. That was better than his 103.78 first round average. He is the best player on the 2025 Euro Tour and loving it. He has won eight of his last ten matches and looks ready to win more.
H2H
These two have met seven times and Aspinall has won five, their last five, including a 6-4 win on Tuesday. Aspinall averaged 104.46 and Lennon 97.55.
Lennon has a good A-game but consistency is his problem. You have to go back to August, some twenty-three matches ago, to find the last time he won three matches in a row.
Aspinall is the 1.25 favourite with Lennon 4.20. Aspinall is 1.91 with a -2.5 leg handicap which makes some appeal, but it was 6-4 the other day and Aspinall shot the lights out in that one. No bet.
2025 German Darts Championship Sunday Tip: No Bet
Jermaine Wattimena vs. Wessel Nijman
I split my stake and backed two players in this quarter of the draw and knew that one would lose at this stage, but both were 41.00 shots, so it made sense.
Wattimena is playing sublime darts right now and is overflowing with confidence. He averaged 107.47 in a 6-3 win over James Wade, and Wade averaged 106.19. It was one of the best games of darts you could hope to see. His tournament average is 106.54 so far. He has won fourteen of his last fifteen matches and hit ten ton plus averages in that spell.
Playing Well
Nijman has won eight of his last nine matches and is playing very well, but not as well, as often as Wattimena. They have met four times and Wattimena has won three, but both players have moved up a few levels even in the last twelve months and they have not played since last June.
Wattimena is 2.00 and the market makes Nijman the marginal favourite at 1.91, and as short as 1.73. Did nobody watch last night’s match?
2025 German Darts Championship Sunday Tip: 1 point Jermaine Wattimena to win @ 2.00 with Betfair, Hills
Cameron Menzies vs. Peter Wright
Menzies has played two solid matches so far, averaging 96 and 97 against Plaisier and Cross. Something similar might be enough to win this. He has won six of his last ten matches and isn’t setting the world on fire, but his performances are much more measured these days and he is realising his potential.
Peter Wright is drawing on his positive mental associations with this venue. He has played in three finals here and won two, including last year. He beat Pietreczko yesterday in a 6-5 win in a match that could have gone either way. Wright only averaged 92.94 and he has lost seven of his last ten matches.
Their H2H record is 4-3 to Menzies and in 2025, 2-1. Wright did beat Menzies 6-5 in ET6 back in May. Wright averaged 101 that day and it is hard to see him getting near that level given his recent form.
Menzies is the 1.50 favourite and I will pass on this one. Wright is stubborn and he will be giving it his best shot in ‘his arena’.
2025 German Darts Championship Sunday Tip: no Bet
Dirk van Duijvenbode vs. Martin Schindler
Dirk is in dreamland. Hitting a nine darter in the first round and hitting his best ever average of 117.74 in his 6-2 win over Chris Dobey. The big question is can he keep it up?
The Aubergenius is a player who gets very tight when getting close to the winning line of tournaments. He puts a lot of pressure on himself and can’t perform when it really matters. This is only the third round, of course, but the way he has played so far makes me think that he might be tempted to get ahead of himself.
Schindler played well in his 6-4 win over William O’Connor, who was the better player and really should have won. He missed a dart to go 5-1 up and the crowd got on his back, he got rattled and unravelled, as he often does.
Crowd Influence
Could Schindler and the crowd bring down another better player? Maybe. Schindler can chip away and he can also punch hard. But if Dirk continues to play his A+ game then it will be too much. However, it will be very hard for Dirk to live up to his best ever performance and his mental frailties make him vulnerable to getting frustrated and falling to bits.
Van Duijvenbode is the 1.67 favourite, Schindler 2.38, so the market is taking a balanced view. Their H2H record is 4-4 to Dirk and in 2025 he won their only match 6-2 in ET6.
I will back Dirk because Schindler has not been in great form. He really should have lost yesterday and even if Dirk does drop a level or two, he can still win it.
2025 German Darts Championship Sunday Tip: 1 point Dirk van Duijvenbode to win -1.5 legs @ 2.10 with SpreadEx
Ricky Evans vs. Dave Chisnall
Evans landed us a nice 4.50 winner by beating Josh Rock 6-2. It was a solid performance and he loved the pace of the match and had fun. Chizzy dragged himself into the European Championships, in all likelihood, but he was as nervous as could be, falling over the line in a 6-4 win over Gabriel Clemens. He relied on his firepower, hitting ten 180s, but his finishing was enough to make you hide behind the settee. Still, it was a win and his first on the Euro Tour since April.
Evans is free rolling and Chizzy will be able to breathe. It could be a good match, but with a 13-5 H2H record, Chizzy must fancy his chances. The last time they met was in ET2 and that was a 6-1 win for Chisnall. Before that, there was a 10-9 win for Chisnall in the UK Open.
Chisnall is the 1.65 favourite, Evans 2.38. I will pass on this one.
2025 German Darts Championship Sunday Tip: No Bet
Ryan Joyce vs. Krzysztof Ratajski
Ratajski has achieved his mission to qualify for the European Championship. His work here is done and anything more is a bonus. He has won six of his last ten matches and played very well to beat Ryan Searle 6-3 yesterday. I thought it would go over 9.5 legs and am still a bit surprised it didn’t.
Ryan Joyce was another big priced winner for us last night, but that just covers the losing outright bet on Bunting. Joyce is a player to follow when he is playing well. He is always underrated and a great pick for value hunters. He has hit back to back ton plus averages and is going to be hard to beat, as will Ratajski.
Their H2H record is 4-3 to Ratajski but they have not met since April 2023. This looks to have the look of a close match.
2025 German Darts Championship Sunday Tip: 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 2.05 with Boylesports
That is all for this weekend. The European Championships start next Thursday so there is plenty more darting action to come.
