2025 Goodwood & Galway Tuesday Tips

Another weekend and another 28/1 winner courtesy of Two Tribes in the International Handicap. We also nicked a place with Rock Opera at 25s at York. We have a busy week ahead and Dave Stevos has a trio of tips for tomorrow, 2025 Goodwood & Galway Tuesday fancies are below.

1.55 Goodwood – Vintage Stakes (Group 2)

David Menuisier’s debutants usually come on plenty for their first outings so when they go and win, they are often pretty decent. Goodwood Galaxy was sent off at 18/1 for his first start at Salisbury (7f, gd-fm) just over a month ago but he belied those odds to make all in impressive fashion.

The runner up, who had the benefit of a previous outing, was beaten a nose in a maiden at Epsom next time out and is officially rated 85 so it was a fine effort and the third home had previously finished second behind Wild Desert, who has since finished a close third in the G2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket.

Menuisier has a fine record at Goodwood (21/116 with another 27 top 4 finishes) and the booking of Oisin Murphy catches the eye (10/54 with 21 top 4s for the yard). With odds of 16/1 on offer, Goodwood Galaxy is worth backing e/w.

2025 Goodwood & Galway Tuesday Tip: Goodwood Galaxy e/w @ 16/1

2.30 Goodwood – Lennox Stakes (Group 2)

I like backing horses that have run well previously around Goodwood as it is a unique track. Kinross has won this race twice before and finished third last year behind Audience and he shaped like retaining plenty of ability at Haydock on his return last month. He’s the one to beat in my opinion but one that could go well at a price is another C&D winner, Witness Stand.

Trained by the good doctor Richard Newland and Jamie Insole, this son of Expert Eye was touched off in a 7f Listed heat at Chester earlier this month. His C&D win came by 3l in a handicap off 97 last July and he beat English Oak in a listed race at Newbury last September.

His official rating of 110 means he hasn’t a huge amount to find on the figures and this prominent racer is drawn to attack in stall 3. Unlike some of his higher rated rivals, he comes here on the back of a fine run and I think he can outrun his odds of 16/1.

2025 Goodwood & Galway Tuesday Tip: Witness Stand e/w @ 16/1 (4 places) NB

6.40 Galway – Colm Quinn BMW Mile Handicap (Premier)

Stephen Thorne’s horses are flying at the moment and the former assistant to Ado McGuinness knows what it takes to win at this festival. He runs Independent Expert in this valuable handicap and she may be able to bounce back from an underwhelming effort in a red-hot fillies’ handicap at Royal Ascot last month.

On her previous start this 6yo daughter of Gutaifan won a Naas handicap (1m, good) decisively by almost 4l. She got hit with a 7lb rise for that and she is now on a career high mark, but the manner of that Naas win suggested she could yet rate even higher. Her former yard must have thought the same given that they ran her in listed company on her last two starts for them.

Jack Kearney takes off 3lb which eases her burden and she ran well on her two previous starts over C&D in October 2023 on bottomless ground. These underfoot conditions should suit much better and at the time of writing, Thorne’s last three runners had won. At odds of 16/1, Independent Expert can hopefully extend that sequence of 1s but if she can’t, a place will do.

2025 Goodwood & Galway Tuesday Tip: Independent Expert e/w @ 16/1 (4 places) NAP
