2025 GSOD Sunday Preview
Now, it is time for James Punt’s 2025 GSOD Sunday preview. He fired in two nice winners from three bets last night, he has eight more bets for both sessions today.
Saturday Reflections
It was a good call to just avoid most of yesterday’s group matches. We ended up with a 2.81 profit but it was a far from predictable set of results. We have another two sessions today and I am going to continue to be selective when it comes to getting involved.
Afternoon Session
Jonny Clayton vs. Lukas Wenig
Wenig was furious to lose 4-5 to Danny Noppert yesterday and with good reason. Noppert was poor and Wenig was by far the better player, but he just couldn’t hit a double when he really needed it.
Wenig was 3-1 up, Noppert was struggling and there for the taking. Noppert won the sixth leg in 21 darts, but Wenig went 4-3 up in the seventh before missing four match darts to win 5-3 and he missed three darts at tops to win 5-4.
Clayton was just smashed up by a very impressive Cam Crabtree, losing 1-5, and he was a spectator for most of the match.
These two have met three times, Clayton winning two. The Welshman has not been in great form of late, losing six of his last ten matches and not playing well. This is a good chance for Wenig to make up for his poor doubling yesterday. It will be a test of character. He was the better player against Noppert and lost. Will he be in a huff, or wanting to right his wrong?
Clayton’s form makes him opposable. Their last two matches required a deciding leg and I wouldn’t be surprised to see this dragging on to a decider.
2025 GSOD Sunday Tip: Over 7.5 legs @ 2.10 with Betfair
Josh Rock vs. Lisa Ashton
I imagine Rock will be feeling much the same as Wenig. Rock somehow let a 4-2 lead turn into a 4-5 loss. He averaged 109.23 and lost. Nijman was pretty poor and at 1-3 down, he was lucky to have got a leg in the match. It was classic Rock, playing great and losing. He has now lost eight of his last ten matches and that losing habit contributed to him losing again yesterday.
Lisa Ashton lost 4-5 to a very disappointing Gian van Veen yesterday. The young Dutchman possibly wasn’t expecting to be booed and jeered on every dart, but darts crowds can be a right bunch of pricks at time.
To be fair to Ashton, she played well enough, hitting three 180s which helped to get the crowd going, putting Van Veen under pressure and his doubling was dreadful.
Rock should win 5-0 if he scores like he did yesterday, but he is likely to get the same treatment from the crowd. If he wins the first three legs, they will shut up, but if Ashton gets an early leg, then Rock is going to get pelters.
2025 GSOD Sunday Tip: 1 point over 6.5 legs @ 2.05 with Hills
Ricky Evans vs. Steffan Bellmont
The Ricky Evans bandwagon rolls on. He beat Gerwyn Price 5-4 and deserved to. It was another good performance and I like to follow players who are in good form and his off the oche happy factor is driving him on.
Bellmont also played well to beat James Wade 5-4, but Wade will have been disappointed with his doubling. He had chances and it wasn’t like him not to take them. Bellmont was a bit lucky that Wade wasn’t finishing like he usually does.
2025 GSOD Sunday Tip: 1 point Ricky Evans to win -1.5 legs @ 2.00 with Betvictor
Gian Van Veen vs. Wessel Nijman
A repeat of last year’s group stage match which Van Veen won 5-4. It was a cracker and we should be seeing these two going head to head for many years to come. Two top players who misfired a bit yesterday, but both won….just.
Van Veen is 9-4 in their H2Hs but I will take a chance that we get served up another close match. They have had four matches go to a deciding leg. The money is going down on Nijman but rather than trying to pick a winner, I’ll go for an overs match.
2025 GSOD Sunday Tip: 1 point over 7.5 legs @ 1.80 with Betfair, Unibet, Skybet
Evening Session
Daryl Gurney vs. Karel Sedlacek
Evil Charlie wasn’t at his best against Littler last night and got tanked 1-5. Gurney was a bit disappointing in a 4-5 loss to Connor Scutt. It wasn’t a great match quality wise and Scutt just got the job done with a solid 14 dart leg in the decider.
Gurney has played his old stable mate twice in 2025 and lost 6-0 and 6-1. They have met six times, it is 3-3 and only once has a match lasted more than nine legs (all best of eleven legs). I’ll go for another short and sweet one.
2025 GSOD Sunday Tip: 1 point under 7.5 legs @ 2.10 with SpreadEx
Gary Anderson vs. Beau Greaves
Beau was just edged out by MVG in a deciding leg last night. She averaged 101.47 and was arguably the better player. Anderson was the better player against Springer but Springer could hit the doubles, Anderson couldn’t.
Anderson has won six of his last ten matches, but he does look quite beatable. He has lost seven of his last ten matches in TV majors.
2025 GSOD Sunday Tip: 1 point Beau Greaves to win @ 2.30 generally available
Luke Woodhouse vs. Alexis Toylo
The final match of the evening…and for good reason. If they put this one on first, the other seven matches would be starting an hour late. I’m not saying that Toylo is slow…but I have seen continents move quicker.
He drove Bunting mental last night. The Scouser was chuntering away to himself as he stormed off the stage. But there is no rule to say what pace you have to play the game. It pisses me off when you get players like Bunting or Anderson giving off that it’s not fair that a player is too slow. You are a professional player, just deal with it.
Sadly, we can’t get a bet on the length of time the match will take. Woodhouse will at least be aware that the match is going to be slower than a slow thing. Maybe bring a good book to read between throws?
Woodhouse is the 1.44 favourite and so long as he can play slowly, he wins. Toylo isn’t that good.
