2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy Friday Preview
James Punt had just one winner this afternoon, he’s hoping to do better this evening. His 2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy Friday betting preview is below.
Jermaine Wattimena vs. Thibault Tricole
Wattimena suffered a drop in form after winning his first PDC title at the end of July, but he seems to be coming back, if still lacking in consistency. He has lost five of his last ten matches, hit three sub 90s but mostly he is back into the 95+ range, but losing too many. He reached the quarter final in Prague, his best run on the 2025 Euro Tour season.
Tricole has played in three Euro Tour events in 2025 and won two first round matches. His recent form sees just three wins from his last ten. He is not a heavy scorer and if Wattimena kicks off here, it could be a rout.
Their H2H record is 3-1 to Wattimena and the Dutchman has won the last three in a row. All matches were played last year and two went to a deciding leg, the other two, easy wins for The Machine Gun.
Wattimena is the 1.30 favourite, Tricole 3.60. I will pass on this one. No bet.
2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy Friday Tip: No Bet
Ryan Searle vs. Robert Owen
Stack Attack is playing in just his second Euro Tour event of the year and just his fourteenth ever. He lost in the first round of the International Darts Open in early April, a 1-6 defeat to Joe Cullen. He has lost eleven of his previous fourteen first round matches in Europe. His recent form sees just three wins from his last ten matches.
Ryan Searle has regressed in terms of his form in 2025. He made six quarter finals, a semi-final and a final in 2024, but this year just a single quarter final. He has won six of his last ten matches and is playing quite well and with a decent level of consistency. Searle has been elevated to seed status quite a few times and he has only had to play five first round matches in 2025, winning three.
Their H2H record is 3-2 to Owen and all their matches have been under 9.5 legs. I fancy Searle to win this and another unders would be no surprise.
2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy Friday Tip: 1 point under 9.5 legs @ 1.73 with Betvictor, Hills
Daryl Gurney vs. Leon Weber
Superchin has won just one of his last five matches. He went out in the first round in Prague having had his best result of the season with a semi-final at the Flanders Darts Trophy before that.
He is safely in all the big Majors but he would be happier if he was winning four of his last five and not losing them. It is not a good time to be losing form. He has won five of his eight first round matches on the 2025 Euro Tour. Gurney was a quarter finalist here last year.
Weber has lost six of his last ten matches. Half of those were Development tour matches, but he did get a good win over Nathan Aspinall in PC27 last week. That is a warning sign that he has a good A-game.
Another warning sign is that he has played in two Euro Tours in 2025 and won both his first round matches. Weber beat Joyce 6-3 and Wattimena 6-5. He reached the third round of the Flanders Darts Trophy.
Gurney is the 1.30 favourite and being backed, Weber is the 4.33 outsider. Superchin should win but the odds are of no interest. No bet.
2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy Friday Tip: No Bet
Raymond van Barneveld vs. Nandor Major
A must win match for RVB if he is to qualify for the European Championships and the Grand Prix. He has been lucky with the draw.
Nandor Major was the first Hungarian to win a Euro Tour match when he beat Pietreczko 6-4 here in 2023. He also represented Hungary at the 2024 World Cup of Darts. The Hungarian has won six of his last ten matches in the Hungarian Super League and the local qualifier. His best performance was an 86.74 average.
Barney is the 1.17 favourite, Major 7.00. It is another no bet.
2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy Friday Tip: No bet
Richard Veenstra vs. Cam Crabtree
Young Crabtree has caught my eye a few times this year and he is a player with potential, but he is very inexperienced and I am a bit surprised to see him being made the 1.73 favourite, with the more experienced Veenstra 2.30.
Crabtree has lost six of his last ten matches at senior level. He also plays on the Development Tour where he won DT19 two weeks ago. His best result on the Pro Tour was reaching the semi-final of PC 22 a couple of months ago.
His Euro Tour record amounts to just one event, PC4 earlier this year, where he beat Luke Woodhouse 6-5 before losing 1-6 to Luke Littler.
Decent Form
Veenstra was another to come off the reserve list and he is in decent form, winning seven of his last ten matches. He has played some good stuff, but he is not a very consistent player. He has played in four Euro Tours in 2025 and lost every match, three of them 2-6. Veenstra did take Nijman to a deciding leg in Prague, but then again, who doesn’t?
These two have met twice, with one win each. Their 12-month averages are within 0.1 point of each other and a close match would be no surprise. Both their previous matches went over 9.5 legs.
2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy Friday Tip: 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 2.10 with Betfair
Joe Cullen vs. Lukas Wenig
Which version of Joe Cullen will we get tonight? The one that won PC27 last week? The one that won the 2022 Hungarian Darts Trophy? Or the one that lost his last two matches with averages of 83.78 and 80.79? Predictable he is not.
Wenig reached the final of PC23 six weeks ago and has won six of his last ten matches. He is playing some good stuff and growing in confidence. His Euro Tour form, however, is poor. He has played in four events in 2025 and lost three first round matches. In his career he has played sixteen Euro Tours and won just five first round matches.
They have only met once before and that was a 6-3 win for Wenig in PC1 in 2024.
Joe Cullen is the 1.70 favourite, Wenig 2.25. The money has been going down on the German. I will take a chance that the money is going on the right player.
2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy Friday Tip: 1 point Lukas Wenig to win @ 2.25 with Betfair
Gian Van Veen vs. Niko Springer
Van Veen is our ‘longshot’ bet for the weekend and this is a tough opener. Springer is a real talent but his recent form has been inconsistent, winning six of his last ten matches. On the Euro Tour he has played in seven events and won six first round matches.
Van Veen has won seven of his last ten matches and hit seven 97+ averages. He was runner up to Gerwen Price in PC26 last week. Gian was a semi-finalist in Prague before that and he is in very good form.
Their H2H record is 5-2 to Springer but Van Veen won their only match at senior level 6-1 a couple of months ago.
Van Veen is the 1.44 favourite but the money is going down on a Springer win at 3.00. The odds look about right to me and it’s a no bet, but hopefully Van Veen can get off the a winning start.
2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy Friday Tip: No bet
Nathan Aspinall vs. Levente Sarai
The last of the home qualifiers gets to close the show. Sarai played well in the local qualifier for this, averaging over 90 in all four matches and dropping just five legs. His seasonal average is just 75.30, so that was his very best form.
Aspinall has lost six of his last ten matches but has been scoring well on the whole, with just a couple of flat matches. The Asp has won two Euro Tour titles in 2025 and was runner up in another, so he is loving the Euro Tour in 2025.
This should be meat and drink for Aspinall. He played a local qualifier in Prague and won that 6-0 without getting out of first gear.
