2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy R2 Preview

James Punt has had a tough time so far this weekend but surely his luck will turn soon. His 2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy R2 betting preview is below.

Friday Reflections

It was a disappointing day yesterday. Five losers, two winners, -2.40 points down. The most annoying thing was Gian van Veen losing 3-6 to Niko Springer, despite hitting the highest average of the day (105.95) and a full ten points better than Springer. That really doesn’t happen very often. When it’s not your day, it’s really not your day.

It was a pretty poor day in terms of scoring all round. Van Veen topped the best averages and there were only three ton plus ones across the sixteen matches. Ryan Searle hit one, and he too lost, and Aspinall managed 101.33 in another 6-0 win over a local qualifier.

The second round is when the seeded players join the party, and we have another sixteen matches to try and get the ship back on course.

Martin Schindler vs. Ryan Joyce

Ryan Joyce was a comprehensive 6-2 winner over Ritchie Edhouse. It was a decent performance but nothing special and his form of late is not great. Joyce has lost his last four second round matches in a row on the Euro Tour. OK, one was a third-round match after he got a bye in ET10. He is not stringing wins together.

Schindler has won seven of his last ten matches and while his consistency is likely to let him down at some point, he is playing better than Joyce right now.

Their H2H record is an unsurprising 3-3, but it is Joyce who has won their last three in a row and their only meeting in 2025.

The market has Schindler as the 1.65 favourite, with Joyce 2.50. Neither player makes any great appeal at those odds. No bet.

2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy R2 Tip: No Bet

Ross Smith vs. Cameron Menzies

Menzies had an easy ride against a local qualifier yesterday and his real work starts here. He has won six of his last ten matches but lost half of his eight second round matches on the Euro Tour in 2025. That reflects a complete lack of consistency in his game.

Ross Smith has won seven of his last ten matches and while he is no model of consistency, his B game is better than Menzies. He has won nine of his eleven second round matches in 2025.

Their H2H record is 6-3 to Ross Smith and their matches are usually quite competitive. Competitive and full of 180s. Their last four matches have seen thirty-one maximums at a rate of 0.77 per leg.

Smith is the 1.57 favourite, Menzies 2.75. I will have a tilt at the 180s market.

2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy R2 Tip: 1 point over 6.5 180s @ 2.10 with BET365

Danny Noppert vs. Robert Owen

Stack Attack beat Ryan Searle 6-5 in probably the best match of day one. Searle averaged 101, Owen 99. Owen was just that bit better on the doubles and that swung it his way in the end. It was only his third win in his last ten matches, but there is some truth in that he is a better stage player than a floor player. He just doesn’t get to play on stage very often.

Noppert has won seven of his last ten matches and he is a steady Eddie, consistent kind of player that wins a lot of matches, but very few titles. He has lost six of his eleven second round matches in 2025, but most of those were at the start of the season. He has won two of his last four, which is still not great for Noppert.

Noppert is 3-0 against Owen, all easy wins.

Noppert is the 1.44 favourite, Owen 3.00. The fact that Owen has only ever won one second round match on the Euro Tour suggest that this is as far as he goes this weekend.

2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy R2 Tip: 1 point Danny Noppert to win -1.5 legs @ 1.80 with BET365

Chris Dobey vs. Darren Beveridge

Beveridge was impressive in his 6-2 win over Wessell Nijman. Yes. Nijman was poor, but Beveridge stuck to his task and made sure that Nijman wasn’t given a chance to get back into the game. It was his first win over Nijman and he is yet to beat Chris Dobey. Can he make it a double? I think he has a decent chance.

Dobey just doesn’t get on with the Euro Tour. His record in 2025 is played twenty-seven and won seven. He has lost seven of his ten second round matches.

Dobey is the 1.33 favourite, Beveridge 3.80

2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy R2 Tip: 1 point Darren Beveridge to win @ 3.80 with SpreadEx

Rob Cross vs. Daryl Gurney

Gurney beat Leon Webber 6-1 in a poor game. He hit some nice doubles but it was a messy match. He has won six of his last ten matches, but his performances have lacked consistency.

Rob Cross needs to win. No ifs, no buts. Lose this and his place in the European Championship is under real threat. He is a two-time European Champion and not even qualifying would be embarrassing, and costly. Cross has lost five of his last ten matches and on the Euro Tour, he has played seven second round matches and won four. He has lost his four third round matches.

Their H2H record is 16-9 to Cross and on the Euro Tour 4-3.

Cross is the 1.62 favourite, Gurney 2.28. I find it hard to have much faith in either player. No bet.

2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy R2 Tip: No Bet

James Wade vs. Luke Woodhouse

It is very hard to oppose Wade on the Euro Tour, at least until the semi-finals. He has won his last four second round matches and six of his last ten overall. He has lacked a bit of consistency in all fairness, but he is enjoying playing in these events.

Luke Woodhouse was bit lucky to beat the local qualifier András Borbély yesterday. The Hungarian was the better player but Woodhouse dug in and came from behind to win 6-4.

These two met at this stage in ET9 and Wade won 6-1. Overall, their H2H record is 4-1 to Wade.

Wade is the 1.48 favourite, Woodhouse 2.90.

2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy R2 Tip: 1 point James Wade to win -1.5 legs @ 1.75 with Ladbrokes

Peter Wright vs. Kim Huybrechts

Wright has lost seven of his last ten matches and he has played as bad as that sounds, most of the time. He actually played quite well in his last two defeats and if he can play to that standard, he can win this.

Huybrechts was a late call up and made the most of his chance by beating the Danish qualifier 6-2. It was just like a practice match for Huybrechts and he needs to up his game today. He has not been scoring well recently and even an out of form Wright might be too good.

Their H2H record is 21-15 to Wright, but most of that is ancient history. They have not played since 2023, but Kim has won five of their last six matches.

Wright is the 1.70 favourite, Huybrechts 2.25. The odds look about right. No bet.

2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy R2 Tip: No bet

Dave Chisnall vs. Raymond van Barneveld

Another must win match for Barney. He is 2.25K outside of the Grand Prix qualifiers and is tied with Dobey for the last place in the European Championships table. He has won five of his last ten matches and he is finding it difficult to win two matches in a row. RVB has lost four of his six second round matches on the Euro Tour in 2025.

Chizzy continues to struggle, and he has been struggling for a year or so now. He too has lost five of his last ten matches but on the Euro Tour, he has lost his last seven matches in a row. His confidence is low.

Their H2H record is 14-14, much of that is very old form but Chizzy has won six of their last seven, the last match being in 2024.

Chisnall is the 1.73 favourite, Barney 2.20. I find it hard to find a reason to back either player. No bet.
