2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday Preview

It was another tricky session for James Punt this afternoon and he is back for more punishment. His 2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday betting preview is below.

Damon Heta vs. Niko Springer

Heta’s form is a bit of a head scratcher. He is playing well enough, scoring well and playing with a good deal of consistency, but he has lost five of his last ten matches.

Narrow defeats to Littler and Nijman are understandable, but losing to O’Connor, Slevin and De Decker isn’t great form. He has had three 6-1 wins but against very weak opponents. Heta has played eleven second round matches and lost five.

Springer somehow managed to beat a rampant Gian van Veen 6-3 last night. The best player lost and yes, I am bitter about it! Springer has won seven of his last ten matches but is not playing with any great consistency. On the Euro Tour, he has lost four of his six second round matches.

These two have only met once before, back in 2023 and that was a 6-3 win for Heta on the Euro Tour.

Heta is the 1.67 favourite, Springer 2.30. It looks like a bit of a coin toss to me. There might be a bit of value with Springer, but it is a no bet for me.

2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday Tip: No Bet

Gerwyn Price vs. Richard Veenstra

It was a rare Euro Tour win for Veenstra last night, but he played very well and deserved his 6-3 win over Crabtree. This will be a lot tougher and his record in second round matches on the Euro Tour is played eight and won one.

Price is in great form, winning eight of his last ten matches and he is 6-1 in his second-round matches in 2025.

These two have played each other twice and Price won both, 6-4 and 6-1.

Price is the 1.20 favourite, Veenstra 5.00. The way my luck is this weekend, Price is probably toast, but hopefully our outright pick can make to the final day once again.

2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday Tip: No Bet

Michael van Gerwen vs. Matthew Dennant

Another of our outright picks, MVG, is another short priced favourite at 1.20. He has lost half of his six second round matches on the Euro Tour this year, but he will be hoping, and so am I, that his season has turned a corner after winning the World Series finals last weekend.

Dennant got a rare Euro Tour win, beating Andrew Gilding 6-4, despite only averaging 83.29. He will need to up his game a lot tonight if he is not to be embarrassed.

These two have only met twice with MVG winning both, 2-6 and 3-6. MVG should be able to progress to round three and the tournament proper on Sunday.

2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday Tip: 1 point MVG to win -2.5 legs @ 1.73 with Betfred

Luke Littler vs. Joe Cullen

The two best players in the world (the world inside Cullen’s head) go head-to-head for the fourth time, with Littler having won two of the previous three.

Both Littler’s wins came on the Euro Tour. The first was in the final of the 2024 Austrian Darts Open and the second a 6-3 win in this season’s German Darts Grand Prix. Cullen’s win came on the floor and Littler is not the same player on the floor.

Cullen got off the mark with a skin of his teeth 6-5 win over Lukas Wenig. It was a fairly good performance, but unlikely to be good enough to trouble Littler.

Littler is the 1.18 favourite, Cullen 6.00. So disrespectful but entirely justified. No bet.

2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday Tip: No Bet

Luke Humphries vs. Nathan Aspinall

The parade of World Champions continues with Humphries renewing his rivalry with The Asp. They have met twenty four times and Humphries has won fifteen, including the last three in a row. Humphries is 6-2 in 2025.

Aspinall beat another local qualifier 6-0 last night and hit a 101.33 average. He has won five of his last ten matches and is playing well on the whole, good enough to give Humphries a match.

Humphries will be feeling more positive after winning the Czech Darts Open two weeks ago and he is playing well, but not his very best.

This has the look of a good, close match.

2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday Tip: 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 2.10 generally available

Stephen Bunting vs. Thibault Tricole

And another world champion (of the BDO variety) enters the fray. Unfortunately, it just makes for another mis-match. Bunting is the 1.22 favourite and while his game might have come off the boil a little, he should be too good for the French number 1.

Tricole edged out Wattimena 6-5 in a poor match, with both players averaging in the mid-eighties. He has won four of his last ten matches and has never made the third round on the Euro Tour.

This will be their third meeting and both of the first two required a deciding leg and each player has won one. However, I don’t see this being close.

Tricole really hasn’t played well in his second rounds and Bunting is just very accomplished on stage these days. He has lost four of his second round games in 2025, two of them to Niko Springer, but It would be a shock if Bunting lost this. No bet.

2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday Tip: No Bet

Josh Rock vs. Ricardo Pietreczko

Pikachu beat Jim Williams 6-1 in a non-contest in round one. He has a very good round 1 record, winning eight, but he has only backed it up with a round 2 win twice in 2025.

Pietreczko will have to up his game if he is to beat the second heaviest scorer in darts right now. Josh Rock has won seven of his last ten matches and those losses were to Littler, Humphries and MVG, all in a different class to Pietreczko.

Their H2H record is 1-1, both played this year. Rock won on the floor, but Pietreczko beat Rock 6-4 in the second round of the Dutch Darts Championship. It was just a bad day at the office for Rock and hopefully that will be a warning to him that he cannot expect to cruise and collect here. In their floor match, Rock won 6-1 and played like he usually does, as did Pitreczko.

Pietreczko is a good doubler and if you allow him chances, he can bite. Hopefully Rock can bang in plenty of 180s and deny Pikachu too many opportunities.

2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy Saturday Tip: 0.5 point Josh Rock to win 6-2 @ 5.00 generally available

Mike de Decker vs. Tom Bissell

Tom Bissell pulled off a major surprise when he beat Dirk van Duijvenbode 6-5. Both players hit sub 85 averages so it was far from good, but it was his first Euro Tour win. Bissell has not made a great impression since winning a tour card in January, but one of his better scalps was beating Mike De Decker 6-5 in PC23 a couple of months ago.

De Decker has lost five of his last ten matches and he is not exactly bulletproof in my book. He has lost seven of his eleven second round matches on the Euro Tour in 2025 so he really isn’t banker material. That may be on his mind.

De Decker is 1.30, Tom Bissell a 3.75 shot and he is being nibbled at in the market.

It rare for a rank outsider to pull off back-to-back surprises and it is a bit of a stretch to see Bissell getting into the third round, but De Decker can be flaky. Maybe this will be a bit closer than the market thinks.
