2025 Night 2 Premier League Darts Preview

James Punt managed to find two winners from his five bets on Night 1 of the PL season. Not the best of starts, but not the worst either. Thursday’s action comes from Glasgow, check out his 2025 Night 2 Premier League Darts preview below.

Night 1 Reflections

It was a 0.81 point loss on night one, par for the course in the wretched Premier League. The road show heads to Glasgow for night two, hot on the heels of the first two Players Championship events, won by Rob Cross and Gerwyn Price respectively.

Rob Cross vs. Luke Littler

Rob Cross provided us with two winners last week, and his form was boosted by him winning PC1 on Monday. He is playing some good stuff, but if I was being picky, he could be a bit more consistent.

Luke Littler lost a great match vs. MVG in Belfast last week. He averaged 113.91 in a 5-6 defeat. The World Champion then went to Wigan for the Players Championships. In PC1 he was poor, averaging 88.80 across his three matches, but he bucked up his ideas for PC2 and averaged 110.09 across his five matches, eventually losing his quarter final 5-6 to Gerwyn Price.

Atmosphere A Plus

Littler has said that he finds it hard to play at his best on the floor. He prefers a big crowd, and I do not expect any sub 90 averages tonight. However, Littler will be aware that he has lost four of his last ten matches and hasn’t won a title for a whole six weeks. Hardly a crisis, and he is averaging 101.36 in 2025.

What he is finding is that players are finding a way to raise their game against him. Everyone wants to say, ‘I beat Luke Littler’ and are busting a gut trying. All he can do is to keep on hitting big averages and the wins will come.

Littler Leads H2H

Their H2H record is 8-2 to Littler and the last time they met, it was a 6-0 win for Littler in the Players Championship finals. In last year’s PL, it was 4-1 to Littler. Three of those five saw over 9.5 legs, including two that went to a deciding leg. Cross should be feeling good after picking up his second title of 2025 and maybe he can give Littler a tough test, and maybe get a rare win?

Littler is the 1.30 favourite, Cross 3.60. Luke Littler suffered a rare first round defeat in Glasgow last year, while Cross has won three of his four matches here.

I will go for a close match but resist the temptation to also back Cross.

Michael van Gerwen vs. Stephen Bunting

MVG is already managing his schedule. He skipped the first of the World Series events and he did not play in this week’s Players Championships.

He played brilliantly to beat Luke Littler in the first round in Belfast last week, before missing his chances to beat Luke Humphries in the semi-final. Van Gerwen averaged over a ton in both matches. MVG has won six of his last ten matches, hitting five ton plus averages.

Stephen Bunting lost his first-round match to Rob Cross last week. He has won six of his last ten matches but while he is playing well overall, he is not scoring as well as, or as consistently as MVG. Bunting’s great form at the end of 2024 has dropped off a little, but he will still take a bit of shifting. He played in the Players Championships earlier in the week, winning five of his seven matches.

MVG Dominant

Their H2H record is an emphatic 21-4 to MVG. Bunting won their only match in 2024, an 11-7 win in last year’s Masters final. They have only played four time in the last two years, and in that time it is 2-2, and I would say that is a fairer refection of their respective form more recently. Bunting is a better player than he was even a year ago, while MVG is slowly losing his best form.

In the current PL format, MVG has reached the final twice in Glasgow, winning it last year.

Van Gerwen is the 1.73 favourite, Bunting 2.10. MVG is in better form, just, and while their H2H record has improved from Bunting’s perspective, I suspect MVG may still have the edge.

Nathan Aspinall vs. Gerwyn Price

Gerwyn Price was happy and relieved to have picked up his first ranking title since 2023, when he won PC2 on Tuesday. It was an 8-7 win over Chris Dobey, and he came through some very close matches with Luke Littler, Ryan Searle and Martin Schindler, but he played very well across his seven matches, averaging 99.82.

It was more like the classic version of Gerwyn Price. He has now won eight of his last ten matches. Last week he lost his opening match to Chris Dobey, 4-6. So long as his doubling holds up, and it did in PC2, Price will be very hard to beat.

Opening Loss For Asp

Nathan Aspinall kicked off his PL campaign with a 2-6 loss to Luke Humphries. His doubling was very poor (20%) and he was not in great form in the Players Championships on Monday and Tuesday.

The Asp managed a 102 average when beating Connor Scutt, but his other three matches all saw sub 90 averages. That will not have done his confidence any good. Aspinall has now lost six of his last ten matches.

Two players in very different form. Price on a high, Aspinall struggling for confidence. Price has only won one match in Glasgow in the current format, Aspinall one form his two.

Price is the 1.61 favourite, with Aspinall 2.35. Their H2H record is 18-12 to Aspinall, and 5-5 in the Premier League. In the current format Price is 5-3 up. Four matches have seen over 9.5 legs, and four under.

Price is a little bit short thanks to his win on Tuesday, but it is hard to back Aspinall given his disappointing form. Ideally, we want the Asp to win for the sake of our outright bets for the league. That is as much interest as I need, but I expect Price to win. No bet.

2025 Night 2 Premier League Tip: No bet

Luke Humphries vs. Chris Dobey

Luke Humphries celebrated his 30th birthday on Tuesday by taking the day off. He had reached the semi-final of PC1 on Monday, losing 6-7 to Joe Cullen, ending Humphries’ thirteen match winning run. Humphries got off to the ideal start when winning Night 1 in Belfast last week. His seasonal win rate is currently 83%, albeit over just eighteen matches. It is hard to knock that kind of form.

Chris Dobey also had a good run at the Players Championships, narrowly losing out to Gerwyn Price in the final of PC2. He hit four ton plus averages across his seven matches. Dobey was runner up to Luke Humphries last week, so he is in good form, scoring well and winning nine of his last twelve games.

Their H2H record is 9-7 to Humphries and in the last two years it is 3-2 to Humphries. Last week’s 6-1 win for Humphries may have flattered him a little, but a recent win does count for more in my book.

Humphries is the 1.36 favourite, Dobey 3.35. I expect that Dobey will make more of a game of things score wise this week.
