2025 Night 4 Premier League Darts Preview
This Thursday’s action comes from Exeter, check out James Punt’s 2025 Night 4 Premier League Darts preview below.
Night 3 Reflections
It was one from three for the tips last week, but fortunately Gerwyn Price’s win over Luke Littler was at big enough odds to make sure we came away with a very small profit on the night (+0.25 points), leaving us with a running tally of +2.75.
Night 4 comes from a very functional big barn near Exeter in the southwest of England. This is the traditional pre UK Open venue as it is only a short journey away from Butlin’s, Minehead. It used to be Luke Humphries ‘home venue’ before the glamour of Crewe drew him away. It was also where he made his Premier League debut, as a Contender, back in 2019, when he got a 6-6 draw against Gerwyn Price. Those two will meet again in Exeter, as the second match up.
Early Days
It is still early days in the tournament and the table is still topped by Luke Humphries on 10 points, followed by Gerwyn Price on 7, MVG on 6, Luke Littler on 5. Nathan Aspinall broke his duck last week, was runner up in Dublin and he is in fifth place on 3 points. Chris Dobey is also on 3 points, Rob Cross on 2 and Stephen Bunting remains pointless and is bottom of the pile.
Nobody will be panicking yet, but Bunting will be feeling more pressure than the rest. He is 5 points off the all-important fourth place. That can be covered if he can win the night, but if he comes up dry again, the alarm bells will start ringing. He faces Luke Littler in the final quarter final, so a tough gig awaits him.
Michael van Gerwen vs. Rob Cross
The H2H record between these two is 29-12 to MVG. Of more interest is that Rob Cross has won five of their last six and he was 3-2 in last year’s PL.
In terms of recent form, MVG is struggling. His win rate in 2025 is just 50% and while he has only played fourteen matches, there is just something missing. He is scoring well, averaging 99.70, but not converting that into as many wins as he maybe should.
In his defence, three of his seven defeats have been to Luke Littler, and one to Luke Humphries, so no shame in that. However two of his last three defeats have been to Micky Finn, an Irish amateur, and the out of form Nathan Aspinall. Last week’s PL defeat to The Asp was a poor performance, averaging 93.21. What MVG has done well so far, is win all three of his quarter finals.
Poor Last Week
Rob Cross has won 68% of his seventeen matches in 2025, but like MVG, he has lost three of his last ten. Last week he was poor against Aspinall. His opponent averaged 85.53 and still won 6-3.
Cross missed no less than nineteen darts at the doubles, and that would see him struggle down the Dog and Duck. That leaves him with the worst checkout rate in the league so far but it was an outlier. Cross is 19th in the checkout stats for the last 12 months.
This is a strange one. Cross’ recent H2H record vs. MVG is very good. MVG’s recent form is odd. He is scoring very well but losing. Rob Cross is not as consistent as MVG scoring wise, and looks a bit vulnerable, but at the same time, if MVG is a bit low on confidence, now could be a good time to play him. Certainly, MVG no longer has the whip hand over Cross.
The market has MVG as the 1.54 favourite, Cross a 2.63 shot. I have MVG as the favourite, but maybe not by that margin. However, I am happy to pass on this one. No Bet.
2025 Night 4 Premier League Darts Tip: No Bet
Gerwyn Price vs. Luke Humphries
The Iceman is in great form, winning eight of his last twelve matches and he is very close to his best. He was the nightly winner in Dublin and deserved it. He beat Littler and Humphries before knocking over Aspinall in the final. His two defeats were close affairs and now that his doubling is improving, he is a very dangerous player.
Luke Humphries has won seven of his last ten matches. While he was very much second best to Price last week, he did beat him 6-4 the week before in Glasgow. There is not a lot wrong with Humphries’ form, but his consistency is not that great. He has had four sub 94 averages in his last ten, and that sort of game should not be good enough against Price given the Welshman’s form.
Close H2H
Their H2H record is 10-9 to Price, with the addition of their PL draw here in 2019. In their six PL matches three were over 9.5 legs, three under. There is no real pattern to their matches. I do like the form of Price, but Humphries could well fire up and win like he did in Glasgow.
Luke Humphries is the 1.56 favourite and Price 2.50. I would have to make the two closer than that. Their H2H record suggests that this is a coin toss and they have played two matches so far in this PL and it is 1-1. It has the feel of an overs match, but the outright value looks to be with Gerwyn Price.
However, Gerwyn Price has a very poor record in Exeter. He has played here five times and his best result was that draw with Humphries in 2019. He lost his other four and lost them badly.
Price is playing well enough to make me think that if he does lose, he will at least make a fight of it this time.

Chris Dobey vs. Nathan Aspinall
Aspinall will have been relieved to have picked up three points last week. He never should have won his quarter final, but Cross just couldn’t hit a double to save his life.
The Asp’s overall form sees him with a 2025 win rate of just 43%. He has won five of his last ten, and while there is some good stuff in there, there is an equal amount of poor performances.
You just do not know what you will get with Aspinall, but you do know that one good performance means very little. A bad one will not be far away. He needs to find his PL mojo. He did against MVG last week.
Consistent Dobey
Chris Dobey has won eight of his last ten matches and there is a lot to like about his game right now. He is playing with great consistency, with eight 95+ averages and four ton plusses.
He tops the pro tour OOM after four events, but he has lost his last two PL quarter finals after reaching the final in Belfast on night 1. Hollywood did this back in 2023, winning in Belfast on night 1 and then losing his next five QFs.
Their H2H record is 8-3 to Aspinall and he has won their last four in a row. They only met once in 2024 and they have not played while Aspinall has been struggling. In the 2023 PL matches it was 2-1 to Aspinall, with all matches ending 6-4.
Dobey Fav
Dobey is the 1.73 favourite, Aspinall 2.20. Dobey’s recent form means he has to start favourite, but their H2H record is reflected in the odds. Another 6-4 result? Only if Aspinall brings his A game or something close to it, and that is a 50-50 chance.
Aspinall’s matches are a bit of a lottery right now and not worth the risk. No bet.
2025 Night 4 Premier League Darts Tip: No Bet
Luke Littler vs. Stephen Bunting
The last man you would want to be playing, when sitting pointless at the bottom of the league, is Luke Littler.
Bunting came into the PL as one of the big form players, but he is 0-3 so far and his recent form sees him losing five of his last ten matches. Bunting did hit a ton average against Humphries last week but still lost 4-6. He is not playing badly, there have been three under par performances, but generally his form is fine.
Littler has won seven of his last ten, but only one of those was a poor performance, and that was on the floor against the mighty Joe Cullen. Outside of that, Littler has hit six ton plus averages, with a low of 96.98. Two of his defeats were to Gerwyn Price, and he has got a thing about playing Price.
Even Steven H2H
Their H2H record is 2-2. Outside of the World Championship semi-final, which Littler won six sets to one, their matches have been close. Two 7-6 wins for Bunting and an 8-7 to Littler.
I feel that this is all about how Bunting approaches the match. Will he be a bit tight, worried about losing and staying pointless and bottom of the league? Or can he forget about that World Championship shagging, and have another ding dong match with Littler?
The old Bunting would fold like a cheap suit, but he has been more resilient in the last year or so. For his part, Littler was far from happy when losing again to Price and losing two of his three quarter final matches is not what anyone expected.
Glasgow Win
He did win the night in Glasgow, with the help of a dreadful crowd it must be said. Littler nearly always has the crowd on his side, but not so much in Dublin last week. There was sizeable support for Price, and it got under Littler’s skin. We know that Mr. TikTok, Stephen Bunting doesn’t have many enemies, and if he gets into the match, Littler may not have it all his own way again.
Littler is the 1.33 favourite, Bunting 3.50. I’ll hope that Bunting shows us the Bunting 2.0 model, sticks it to Littler as best he can, and we get a close one. All of Littler QFs so far have been overs, and two of Bunting’s have also been overs.
