2025 Night 9 Premier League Darts Preview

This Thursday the Premier League roadshow rolls into Berlin in Germany. Check out James Punt’s 2025 Night 9 Premier League Darts preview below.

Night 8 Reflections

It was back to the giddy heights of a sub 1 point profit on Night 8. Two out of four meant a +0.73 profit, taking the tournament to date tally to +3.13. That pint is back on the agenda.

The Premier League circus travels to Berlin for Night 9, so no home advantage for any of the players tonight.

The league table remains in exactly the same order as it has been for the last two weeks. Stephen Bunting remains pointless, Chris Dobey on five points and those two are at the making up the numbers stage.

In sixth place we have Aspinall on ten points, fifth is Rob Cross on twelve along with fourth placed Gerwyn Price. MVG is third on thirteen points. Then we have a larger gap to the two Lukes, Humphries on eighteen and Littler galloping off into the distance on twenty six.

Nathan Aspinall vs. Stephen Bunting

With Aspinall very much in the fight for a place in the playoffs, and Bunting just killing time, the pressure is on The Asp. Playing Bunting has been seen as a two point pick up so far, but he isn’t going to lose the lot. He is playing well enough and at the very least, he win play someone worse than him on one or two occasions in the remaining weeks.

Aspinall will have looked at the fixture and though, yeah, two more points in the bag. Shortly afterwards he may have thought, ‘but what if?’ Nobody wants to be the first player to lose to the player who has lost every match so far.

Confidence Booster

Bunting is playing fine away from the PL. He played in the two Players Championships earlier this week, winning five of his seven matches. He reached the quarter finals on Tuesday, hitting four ton plus averages. That will have given his confidence a real boost. If he can just relax, not try too hard, he might just be able to get the crowd on his side, supporting the ‘underdog’.

Aspinall is right there on the cusp of the playoff places, but far from getting there. He needs regular points. The Asp has won seven of his last ten matches, thanks to winning the European Darts Trophy a couple of weeks ago.

He followed that up by beating MVG last week, before losing in a deciding leg to Luke Humphries. They were two good performances. He didn’t play well in the Players Championships, winning just two of his four matches.

H2H

Their H2H record is 6-5 to Bunting. Aspinall beat Bunting 6-2 on Night 5, ending a run of three wins for Bunting.

Bunting needs to find a way to park his PL form to date and bring his other game. His average legs won per game in the PL is just 2.5. Five of his eight matches have seen under 9.5 legs, including four of his last five.

The market makes Aspinall the 1.91 favourite, Bunting 2.00, and many bookmakers are making this a coin toss, 1.91 for each player. Yes, Bunting reached a quarter final on Tuesday, but Aspinall won a Euro Tour ten days ago. Bunting played well in the very early season World Series events, but since then he has won two Euro Tour matches, but lost eleven more stage matches.

Aspinall has been more accomplished on stage in the past few months and he has a fierce determination to make the playoffs. The odds are good enough to back Aspinall.

Luke Humphries vs. Rob Cross

Luke Humphries did not play in the Players Championships earlier this week. He has lost five of his last ten matches and he has not been on his A-game as often has he usually is. His B game is still enough to beat most players, but he is playing at the top level most of the time and that means getting found out more often.

Rob Cross did play in PC9 and PC10, losing two second round matches. Cross has won five of his last ten matches and that reflects his lack of consistency right now. He is never easy to call, and even harder right now.

Their H2H record is 14-10 to Cross. In this year’s PL it is 1-1 and in all of their PL matches 3-3. In their thirteen best of eleven leg matches, nine have been over 9.5 legs and in their six PL matches four have been over 9.5 legs.

The market has Humphries as the 1.44 favourite, Cross 2.75. Neither player is banker material at the moment. I will temporarily lift my boycott of Rob Cross matches and have an overs bet.

2025 Night 9 Premier League Darts Tip: 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 2.20 with Betfair

Chris Dobey vs. Luke Littler

Dobey has lost six of his last ten matches. He is playing better than that sounds, but his consistency is not great, and that this level, it needs to be. He has only won three of his eleven matches in this PL, and just one of his last seven, and that was against the pointless Bunting.

Littler is going for his third nightly win in a row. He is running away with the league stage and is almost unstoppable, on stage at least. Littler did play earlier this week, losing to Ian White on Monday, and Scott Williams on Tuesday. It is fair to say that Littler is not at his best on the floor. Overall he has won eight of his last ten matches and in the PL eleven of his last twelve.

H2H

Their H2H record is 3-1 to Littler. He won their only PL match 6-5 on Night 5. Both players are ranked in the top 5 for 180s per leg over the last twelve months and in their two best of eleven leg matches, they have hit sixteen maximums at 0.727 per leg.

Littler is the 1.15 favourite, Dobey 5.80. That makes Dobey almost backable. If he plays his A game he can stick with Littler and in a best of eleven leg match, he has the puncher’s chance.

You can get 1.80 for over 8.5 legs, both players to get a minimum of three legs. In both players’ eight quarter finals, five have seen over 8.5 legs. However, Dobey’s last three and Littler’s last two have been under.

Over 6.5 180s is only 1.44. Over 7.5 is 1.91. Littler has been banging them in at 0.557 per leg in the PL, well above his seasonal average. Dobey is on 0.356 per leg, very much in line with his.

We have done quite well with the overs on 180s and unless Dobey gets rolled over, I think we can see another.

Michael van Gerwen vs. Gerwyn Price

Gerwyn Price won PC9 on Monday with a mixed bag of performances. There was a 114 average when beating Dolan 7-0 in the semi-final but also a couple of sub 92s. He has said that he is still not fully fit and he went out in the first round on Tuesday, averaging just 87.7 when losing to Dylan Slevin. He may just have wanted to go home early.

Price has lost his last two quarter finals in the PL, both to Rob Cross. He has won eight of his last ten matches but in the PL has lost four of his last five quarter finals. His form is hard to pin down.

Van Gerwen is yet to win a night in this year’s PL and that will be bothering him. He is in the playoff places but is not comfortable. MVG did not play earlier this week. He has lost five of his last ten matches and is playing OK, but not his best.

Their H2H record is 36-16 to MVG and he has won seven of their last ten. There is no real pattern to their matches and both players have been blowing hot and cold recently. We have backed MVG to make the playoffs, so hopefully he can get this one over the line as these two are in the competitive zone in the league table. No bet.
