2025 PDC WC Monday Evening Preview & Tips

After a stuttering start on Sunday, James Punt clicked into gear on Monday afternoon. Three bets, two winners and he is looking for more tonight. You can check out his 2025 PDC WC Monday evening preview and tips below.

Niels Zonneveld vs. Robert Owen

It has been a reasonable season for Zonneveld. His win rate is a modest 57% and his seasonal average 92.72. His recent form is six wins from his last ten matches and his consistency is a little better, but still not good enough to think he will be winning tournaments.

Zonneveld has played in three previous World Championships, but only won one match. That was despite a 79 average last year, when he beat Darren Webster 3-1. Last year was the first time he had won a set at Ally Pally, never mind a match. It is fair to say, he has struggled here.

Robert Owen needs to win a couple of matches to save his tour card, so he may be feeling under pressure, or he may have come to terms with losing it, and just have a go.

Owen’s recent form sees six losses from his last ten matches, and his seasonal win rate is only 47%. Owen has only played here once, losing his first round match with Andrew Gilding 2-3. I remember he got a lot of stick from the football fans, calling him a Welsh Sheep Shagger and so on. He took the bait and got involved, and it didn’t help. Perhaps he will be a little more prepared for the inevitable abuse.

These two have only met once, a Euro Tour match in October, which Zonneveld won 6-2. The Dutchman is the better player and he has looked a bit more composed this season. He’s starting to realise his potential and is not throwing in the towel so easily.

2025 PDC WC Monday evening Tip: 1 point Niels Zonneveld to win -1.5 sets @ 2.10 generally available

Conor Scutt vs. Ben Robb

Scutt is being talked up as the next big thing. He is not the finished article yet, not by some way, but he is being priced up like he is Luke Littler here. The 1.14 favourite? Fair enough, he is a strong favourite, but those odds suggest Robb may as well have saved his air fare and stayed in New Zealand. The Kiwi is the 7.00 outsider.

Scutt has a seasonal average of 92.44, but the last three months saw him averaging 94.32, 38% checkout rate and 0.32 180s per leg. Good, solid stuff. His most recent form sees six wins from his last ten matches and he reached the quarter finals of the Players Championship finals, losing out 9-10 to Dirk van Duijvenbode. He will be feeling confident and the practice sessions with Edhouse and Lukeman will have raised the bar of what he expects he can do.

Ally Pally Struggles

Ben Robb looked to have a bit about him when he turned up here for the 2020 Championship, but his bluster was just that. He went down 0-3 to Ron Meulenkamp. Robb has played another three times at Ally Pally, losing all three matches and winning just two sets in total. He has tried Q school, and the bottom line is that he isn’t good enough.

These two have actually met twice. The first was a 5-4 win for Scutt in the 2022 tour school, and the other was in this year’s World Open, which Scutt won 4-2. Robb averaged 99 in that match, Scutt 103, so the Englishman was able to cope with Robb’s A game and win.

Scutt is just 2.15 to win 3-0 and there is no value in this game whatsoever. No bet.

2025 PDC WC Monday evening Tip: No Bet

Cameron Menzies vs. Leonard Gates

Menzies, so often the Clown Prince of darts, is starting to take things a bit more seriously. He is cutting down on the amount of time spent ‘on the tools’, as a plumber, and more time on his darts. He has employed the services of a sports psychologist to help him perform more consistently on stage and stop being so much of a drama queen.

His results are better, and he is now a PDC title winner. His recent form sees six wins from his last ten matches. He reached the quarter final of the Grand Slam, but somehow lost it 15-16 to Mickey Mansell. It is that sort of crap result he needs the shrink to get out of his game. If he does, there could be much gold coming Menzies way.

His 12 month average is 95.82, bettered only by eleven other players. His seasonal win rate is 70%, which is very good. He has all the tools to be a top player, and just needs to sort his head out.

Entertainer

Leonard Gates’ real arena is at Senior level, but he loves being up on the big stage. He is an entertainer. His seasonal average is 86.91, so he is going to be outgunned by Menzies. We last saw him play in the Grand Slam, where he beat Peter Wright, but lost 2-5 to Rob Cross and 3-5 to Martin Lukeman. Gates played here two years ago and beat Geert Nentjes 3-1. The draw has not been so kind to him this time.

Menzies is the 1.25 favourite and I will back him to win this to love. He has the scoring power advantage to make that likely.

2025 PDC WC Monday evening Tip: 1 point Cameron Menzies to win 3-0 @ 3.00 with Ladbrokes

Gerwyn Price vs. Keane Barry

Barry was good enough to see off Kim Huybrechts last night with a 3-1 win and 95 average. That means he is now 5-0 vs. the Belgian. Tonight he takes on the strangely out of sorts Gerwyn Price.

The 2021 World Champion has failed to win a title of any sort in 2024, despite still being one of the top 6 heaviest scorers. Price has only ever lost one second round match here, while Barry is trying to win his first ever second round match.

Gerwyn Price has won five of his last ten matches. His last match was a 4-6 loss to Thibault Tricole, who we saw struggling to beat Joe Comito last night, despite the Aussie missing 23 doubles. Losing to Tricole is not a good sign. Before that Price lost 3-5 to Mickey Mansell. He did reach the final of PC27 in mid-October, but it seems that was not a sign of a return to form.

Price Dominates H2H

Their H2H record is 4-0 to Price, with their last match being a 6-1 win in last year’s European Championship.

Price is the 1.36 favourite, but he is on the drift. Barry is in to 3.40. Price is still the better player, with a strong H2H advantage and good record in the event. Barry has got that nerve settling win under his belt, but he has never beaten Price, nor reached the third round here.

If there is any value here, it is with Barry. Price is an opposable player these days, but I suspect he will be too good for Barry, and will win if he wants it, but that is open to question. No bet.

2025 PDC WC Monday evening Tip: No bet
