2025 PDC WC Monday Night Preview
One bet, one 3.60 winner for James Punt this afternoon at the Ally Pally. He goes again tonight. Check out his 2025 PDC WC Monday Night preview and tips below.
Gian van Veen vs. Ricardo Pietreczko
Pietreczko had no trouble beating the Chinese qualifier in the first round, but he now faces the newly crowned World Youth Champion, Gian Van Veen.
Van Veen has hit a good run of form. He reached the quarter finals of the Grand Slam before that and in his last eight matches he has averaged over 97, with five ton plusses including a 110 and a 115 in the Grand Slam. He has yet to win a senior PDC title, but it can only be a matter of time.
Pietreczko also had a good run in a recent Major, reaching the quarter final of the European Championship. His scoring has been nowhere near that of Van Veen’s, but he has also won six of his last ten, including a 6-4 win over Van Veen at the end of October.
Their H2H record is 3-0 to Pietreczko, but this will be their first meeting in a televised match.
Gian van Veen is the 1.33 favourite, Pietreczko the 3.60 outsider. That H2H record is a bit of a red flag. Van Veen’s odds are short, and short for a reason, that being his form. He should win, but with so many seeds falling at the first hurdle, I am in no rush to be taking short odds about any seed.

Daryl Gurney vs. Florian Hempel
Superchin’s form has been very inconsistent for a long time now. It means he has had good runs on the floor and a couple of Euro Tour quarter finals, but he isn’t he player he was a few years ago. Most recently he has won six of his last ten matches, including a 6-3 win over Florian Hempel. Gurney usually starts the Majors with a win and he is the 1.62 favourite to win this.
Hempel beat Jeffrey de Zwaan 3-1 in the first round and he has won six of his last ten matches. He does like a scrap and is a proper competitor. He is not a consistent player and rarely puts any good runs together, but he is an awkward opponent.
These two have met on five occasions with Gurney winning three, and both in 2024. Gurney has played eleven second round matches here, won nine of them and six 3-1. He is the better player, he has that recent win over Hempel and I’ll take him to win 3-1.
2025 PDC WC Monday Night Tip: 0.5 point Daryl Gurney to win 3-1 @ 4.33 with Fitzdares
Dave Chisnall vs. Ricky Evans
The big question here is about the state of Chisnall’s back. He has been suffering with a bad back for a couple of months and he has gone from winning a Players Championship title in late September, to losing nine of his last ten matches. His only win was against Joe Cullen, perhaps the greatest darts player of all time, so it is not all bad news for Chizzy.
Chisnall has reached three quarter finals and a semi-final at the Ally Pally and he has won his last eight second round matches, so he is comfortable on the biggest stage of all.
Ricky Evans was delighted to get a win over Gordon Mathers in the first round last Wednesday night but it was a narrow margin of victory requiring a deciding set. He only averaged 86.23, but it ended a run of nine straight defeats, so it was a big deal. His confidence will still be fragile, but I would expect a better standard tonight.
Evans has played seven second round matches here and won three. Most recently he has lost two to Daryl Gurney and one to the legendary Joe Cullen.
Their H2H record is 11-4 to Chisnall, but all that counts for nowt if Chizzy is still trying to play with a bad back. We haven’t seen him for three weeks, so he may have got it sorted out, I don’t know. What I do know is that we have two players who have both lost nine of their last ten matches, and that is enough for me to leave this well alone.

Rob Cross vs. Scott Williams
This match is complicated by the two players being practice partners, and management stablemates. That all has to be parked outside and both to get on with the job.
Williams was a surprise semi-finalist last year and he got off to a good start this year by beating the highly rated German, Nico Springer, 3-1. It was a proper game of darts with Springer averaging 98.92, and Williams 96.24.
Williams has only won four of his last ten matches, but at least he has won four of his last five all on TV. He is a player who prefers the big stage.
Solid Cross
Rob Cross has won five second round matches here and his record in the big TV events in 2024 has been very solid. He reached the semi-final here at the start of the year, was a quarter finalist in the UK Open, the Matchplay, the Grand Prix, the Grand Slam of Darts and the World Series Finals. That is a lot of nice big cheques.
His recent form is strange. He has lost five of his last ten matches. He lost to Martin Lukeman twice in the Grand Slam, he lost 0-6 to Littler at the Players Championship, lost to Cameron Menzies, and he even lost to Merv King. There have been three sub 90 averages and just the one ton plus, so he is not showing any great consistency.
Their H2H record is 2-1 to Rob Cross, but all three were played in 2022. One was a second round win here, so will it be a case of history repeating itself? That was a 3-1 win featuring thirteen 180s. All three of their matches have seen a good number of maximums, so hopefully the last game before Christmas will see a 180 fest.
Rob Cross is the 1.50 favourite, Williams 2.75.
