PDC World Matchplay Saturday Preview
If you fancy having an ante-post bet on the 2021 PDC World Matchplay tournament James Punt’s in-depth, player by player preview is available to read by clicking here. James will also be previewing each and every match at the event. Check out his PDC World Matchplay Saturday tips below.
Dave Chisnall vs. Vincent van der Voort
Dave Chisnall has a narrow 7-5 H2H record against Vincent van der Voort. They have only met once this season, last month and Vincent won that 6-5. This match is a repeat of last year’s World Matchplay first round and Van der Voort also won that, 10-6.
Recent form wise, Chisnall has won six of his last ten, as has Van der Voort. The big Dutchman’s form has been mixed and at last weeks Super Series 5 he had averages ranging from 101.7 to 83.3 and everything in between. Chizzy is having a pretty quiet season. He reached the quarter finals of the UK Open but he has been very ordinary in the players championship events. His win rate in 2021 is just 58%, shy of Van der Voorts 63%.
Chizzy is the stronger scorer but Van der Voort has been a little more effective. There isn’t much between them on recent form and a repeat of last year’s result is entirely possible and the odds are good.
PDC World Matchplay Saturday Tip: 1 point Vincent van der Voort to win @ 3.00 with Betvictor
Jonny Clayton vs. Dirk van Duijvenbode
Both players have played some excellent stuff this year, both have won titles, but it is Clayton who has become one of the very best, most consistent players on tour. He has won four titles in 2021, including the Premier League and Masters. His win rate is 78%, down a little from his peak, and seasonal average of 99.19. He won ten of his fourteen matches at the recent Super Series 5 and as good as that is, it wasn’t his usual very high standard.
Dirk won a players championship title in April and very nearly went back to back by reaching the final the next day, but it has to be said that his most recent for in Super Series 5 was poor, winning just three matches and just one of his last five. That is not the sort of form you want going into a major.
The H2H form has a 4-2 lead for Clayton and they have met three times in 2021 and it is 2-1 to Clayton. Their last first to ten format match was at the UK Open earlier in the year which The Ferret won 10-3.
Both players have dropped of the best form, but Claytons B game is still very handy and he should justify odds of 1.57. I will take a chance and take Clayton on the handicap and hope that Dirk remains off the boil.

Gerwyn Price vs. Jermaine Wattimena
A late call up for Wattimena is rewarded with a match against the world number 1. Still, he will get £10k for losing so its not a bad gig.
Wattimena has yet to win a match in the Matchplay, losing all three previous first round matches. He has won six of his last ten matches but his scoring has been light weight and his seasonal average of 91.98 just about sums up his game right now. He is winning 51% of his matches which does not compare favourably to Price’s 77% and season average of 99.3.
Wattimena lost in extra time to James Wade in 2018 but in the last two years he has lost 1-10 to Mensur Suljovic and 4-10 to Krzysztof Ratajski last year.
Gerwyn Price has not enjoyed much success in this event and has not won a match since 2015. However, he is a much improved player these days and less of the pantomime villain.
Their H2H record is 6-2 and Wattimena has not beaten Price since 2017 and their last two matches saw a 7-0 Premier League win for Price and a 2 sets to nil win in the 2020 World Grand Prix.
PDC World Matchplay Saturday Tip: 2 points Gerwyn Price to win -4.50 legs @ 2.25 with Boylesports, Unibet
Dimitri van den Bergh vs. Devon Petersen
The defending champion opens his defence against a player not at the top of his game. Petersen has won five of his ten matches and his annual win rate has dropped from 62% to 52% and he is not in the same kind of form that took him to a Euro tour title last year. His scoring average in 2021 is 92.0 compared to 97.8 for Dimitri.
Van den Bergh leads the H2H stats at 2-1 and he is decent form, winning six of his last ten matches. He won PC12 back in late April, reached the quarter final of PC14, the final of PC17 and semi-final of PC19 last week. There have been lost of ton plus averages and he will outscore Petersen and win the match.
Van den Bergh is the 1.38 favourite to win but I take him on the handicap.
