Tuesday Afternoon PDC World Championship Preview
James Punt was back on form on Monday with two winners from three tips posted. There are another two sessions today and we’ll have previews for every single game. Check out James Punt’s Tuesday Afternoon PDC World Championship tips below.
Lewy Williams vs. Toyokazu Shibata
Up and coming young Welsh talent, Lewy Williams, faces the PDJ Japanese qualifier Toyokazu Shibata. The other Japanese qualifier lost earlier in the tournament. Yuki Yamada played well enough against Callan Rydz, but his doubling was poor, and he went down 3-0. Shibata has a seasonal average of 85.2 but he averaged 95.4 in the final of the Japanese qualifying tournament, so he obviously can play to a good standard. It is a mistake to underestimate the Japanese players.
Williams has a bit about him, a bit of a swagger and he has taken some big scalps since getting his tour card in January. He had already beaten Jose De Sousa at the 2020 UK Open before he won his tour card in January 2021. In his very first players championship he beat Dimitri van den Bergh, Kim Huybrechts and Michael van Gerwen before losing to Jonny Clayton.
Lost 11 of Last 13
Since then, he has had wins over Aspinall, Van Duijvenbode, Gurney and Ratajski but his most recent form has been poor. At senior level he has lost eleven of his last thirteen matches and his two wins were against Jose Justicia and Lisa Ashton. Eight of those matches saw sub 90 averages and scoring wise, there is nothing between these two on latest form
I like Williams and think he could go on to be a decent player but given his recent poor form, the Japanese player has to be considered. Williams is the 1.25 favourite and Shibata 4.33. You can get 2.55 with Shibata getting a +1.5 set handicap but I’ll take a chance and take off scratch.

Jason Lowe vs. Daniel Larsson
This time last year Jason Lowe knocked out the Russian qualifier in his first round match before beating Michael Smith in the second. He was winning 61% of his matches back then, now it is just 46%. He has won five of his last ten matches and his seasonal average is 92. Lowe is inconsistent, with his averages ranging between 86 and 101 in those last ten.
Daniel Larsson is a consistently low scorer. His seasonal average is 87.2. His last ten pro tour matches have seen just two 90 plus averages, and just one win, and that was against Glen Durrant. He has only played 13 senior level matches in 2021 along with some Nordic Baltic Tour games. He is very much a part time player these days.
Lowe is the 1.37 favourite and Larsson the 3.30 outsider. I get the feeling that Lowe has been a very lucky boy to get such a soft draw. Lowe made hard work of beating the Russian last year and he could do so again.

Mervyn King vs. Ryan Joyce
It is hard to know what to make of Merv King’s recent form. He reached the quarter final of the World Series of Darts finals having hit averages of 115 and 98, but he has won just one of his last six matches. He has been hitting some big scores and losing, like 101 and 99.9 losing averages but also 89 and 80 losing averages. That has been his form for the last few months and you just don’t know what you are going to get. He has a good record in his opening matches here, winning eleven from fifteen.
Ryan Joyce made hard work of beating Roman Benecký in the first round. Having been 2-0 up, he lost two sets and was taken to a deciding leg, falling over the line to win 3-2. Still, a win is a win, and he has that win under his belt. Only one of the first-round winners has failed to get at least a set in their second-round matches.
Joyce has won seven of his last ten matches but much like King, his scoring has been very inconsistent. Everything from a 108 to a couple of 84’s in his last ten. Their H2H record is 1-1 and I get the feeling that this will not be a 3-0 win. King is the 1.57 favourite, Joyce 2.38. The inconsistency of both players’ scoring makes this a real minefield and best avoided. No bet.
Dave Chisnall vs. Mike de Decker
Chisnall is 2-1 in the H2H ‘s but one of those was in the remote Home Tour and his only proper win over the Belgian was back in 2015. De Decker won their most recent match 6-3 last November.
De Decker beat Darius Labanauskas 3-1 in his first-round match. Lucky D hit a nine darter and maybe that discombobulated him as De Decker was not playing anything special, averaging 89. His recent form is six wins from ten, but half those matches have seen sub 90 averages and even two sub 80 averages.
Chisnall has won five of his last ten matches with three sub 90 averages amongst those, but generally he is a heavy scorer with a seasonal average of 95.7. He has won eight of his ten opening matches here, half of them to nil.
Chisnall is the 1.30 favourite and De Decker 4.00. Chisnall’s average game should be too much for De Decker and his A-game would blow him away. It may be hard for De Decker to get much out of this match.
In Chisnall’s last ten matches at Ally Pally he has had eight ton plus checkouts, with all between 124 and 170. He is one of the most prolific 180 hitters on tour, ranked 7th since the start of October and he looks well placed to land the match treble of win, most 180’s and highest checkout.
