Monday Afternoon German Darts GP Preview – JP
Monday Afternoon German Darts GP Tips
Things slowed down for us somewhat on Sunday evening but we still landed three nice winning bets. Three of our four outright bets are still in contention too. The tournament now moves into the later stages and James Punt has had a look at every match. Check out his Monday Afternoon German Darts GP preview and tips below.
Keane Barry vs. Martin Lukeman
Barry was far from impressive when beating Lukas Wenig 6-4 in the first round. It was an 83 average and a continuation of a poor run of matches. His highest average in his last five is just 90.1. Since reaching the semi-final of the UK Open Barry has played 26 matches, lost 12 and only won 4 of his last 10.
Lukeman on the other hand is in good form, winning eight of his last ten but he has been a bit fortunate this weekend in facing two opponents who have been poor. Will he get another who doesn’t show up? Perhaps.
Nervy Game
Both players have picked up £3k for getting this far and are on the cusp of a quarter final and £5k of valuable ranking points. They are more important to Lukeman as Barry is already well inside the top 64. Nerves are bound to start to intensify and ironically, it is the younger player, Keane Barry, who has more experience of stage matches in front of a big crowd.
Barry is the bookies 1.70 favourite with Lukeman 2.20. The Englishman won their only previous match 6-5 on the floor last September. He has the confidence of winning plenty of matches recently, but this is a big deal and that begs the question, how will he cope. He is playing better than Barry is at the moment, but will he get tight and underperform? He reached this stage in the last Euro Tour event and lost 3-6 to MVG. Playing an out of form Barry is an easier task but he still has to perform. I’ll take the chance he does.
Monday Afternoon German Darts GP Tip: 1 point Martin Lukeman to win @ 2.20 with Betfred, Boylesports
Martin Schindler vs. Ryan Searle
Schindler played his get out of jail free card against Dolan yesterday, the Ulsterman missed multiple darts to win the match and Schindler got lucky, winning 6-5. The crowd played their part and no doubt they will try and put Searle off as well, but he looks good enough to control the match and keep the crowd quiet.
Searle has now won fifteen of his last seventeen matches and it was another ton plus average when beating Danny Baggish 6-2 last night. Schindler has lost all three of his matches against Searle, including a 3-6 loss in a Euro Tour match in 2018. We have backed Searle to win the title and there is no point in backing him at short odds on to win what will still be a difficult match, especially if Schindler gets going on the 180’s. With the withdraws of Ratajski and Price, this quarter has opened up and Searle is well placed to take advantage.
Monday Afternoon German Darts GP Tip: No Bet
Scott Waites vs. Damon Heta
Another of our outright selections, Damon Heta, is the hot favourite to beat Waites. The Aussie is in great form and he averaged 99.7 in a 6-4 win over Van Barneveld last night. He is 2-1 up on Waites and has won eight of his last ten matches, scoring very heavily.
Waites beat an underwhelming Peter Wright 6-5 but it likely that he will find Heta a much tougher proposition. The Heat is averaging 98.7 in 2022 and his consistency has become top class.
Monday Afternoon German Darts GP Tip: 1 point Heta to win -2.5 legs @ 2.00 with Ladbrokes, Boylesports
Jonny Clayton vs. Max Hopp
Hopp actually played quite well to beat Dimitri van den Bergh 6-3, but it must be said that Van den Bergh was very poor. Hopp now faces The Ferret and he is unlikely to get an easy ride this afternoon. Clayton has won seven of his last ten matches and had three ton plus averages in his last three.
It is unlikely that Hopp will be able to cope with Clayton’s fire power. Their H2H record is 8-1 to Clayton. They met on the Euro Tour, last sixteen stage in 2018 and Clayton won 6-2. Something similar looks likely today.
Monday Afternoon German Darts GP Tip: 0.5 point Clayton to win 6-2 @ 4.75 with Fitzdares
Madars Razma vs. Keegan Brown
This looks a tough one to call. Both plyers were not very impressive in their second matches, both averaging 86 and both lucky that their opponents were poor.
Their H2H record is 2-1 to Brown. He has won six of his last ten matches, as has Razma. Their season averages are very close but Razma has a win rate of 65% compared to 51% for Brown.
Brown is the marginal 1.85 favourite, Razma 1.95. Maybe the odds are the wrong way round and Razma should be the marginal favourite. It is hard to see either player really running away with the match, both are experienced and unlikely to panic, and we could see a close match.
Monday Afternoon German Darts GP Tip: 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 1.91 with Boylesports, Ladbrokes
Michael van Gerwen vs. Rob Cross
The headline match of the third round between the two former World Champions. MVG was lucky that he was playing Chris Dobey last night. He was scoring well but making mistakes, giving away chances, but Dobey choked in the deciding leg, and he was just too mentally weak to take advantage.
Cross beat Sedlacek 6-3 but Evil Charlie missed about ten darts to win the four legs we needed. Cross was OK, nothing more. He is having some problems on the outer ring and while he has won seven of his last ten matches, his checkout rate has been below 30% in four of them.
These two last met in the final of the last Euro Tour event and MVG won that 8-5 and his overall record with Cross is 22-5, but it is 2-2 in their last four.
MVG is the 1.50 favourite and his scoring will give Cross problems, but if he starts doing the wrong thing at the wrong time, Cross is savvy enough to take advantage.
MVG remains poor value, but Cross doesn’t inspire a great deal of confidence due to his poor doubling. No bet.
Monday Afternoon German Darts GP Tip: No Bet
Michael Smith vs. Luke Humphries
Cool Hand Luke was complaining that his hands were too cold yesterday when he beat De Zwaan 6-4. It wasn’t a great performance, but he got the job done and remains a contender. He has won 71% of his 2022 matches, averaging 97.
Smith has a 2022 win rate of just 56% but he did get off to a very slow start after losing the World Championship final. More recently he has won seven of his last ten and while he still has some matches where he just doesn’t fire, his scoring is usually top class.
Their H2H record is 4-3 to Smith but they haven’t met since 2020, and two their three matches that year were on the remote Home Tour. They have only met once on stage and Smith won that 5 sets to one in the 2018 World Championship quarter final.
Two heavy scorers in decent form means we should see some quality darts, if Humphries gets his hands warmed up. Both are big 180 hitters but the bookies seem to have that covered and it is hard to find any great value here. No bet.
Monday Afternoon German Darts GP Tip: No Bet
Wesley Plaisier vs. Dirk van Duijvenbode
Dirk overcame a bit of a slow start to beat Krčmar 6-5. Some technical problem with the sound system put him off and he lost his throw in the first leg and was playing catch up. It wasn’t vintage Dirk, but he is often a bit of a slow starter. He has now won nine of his last ten matches and is the 1.40 favourite to win the match.
Plaisier has done well to reach the final day and he was decent against Cullen yesterday, even if Cullen was out of sorts. Plaisier averaged 93, which after a 104 in the first round, was respectable. He is likely going to need that first round form if he is to live with the bang in-form Van Duijvenbode.
