Saturday Evening European Darts Matchplay Preview
It was a mixed bag for us earlier today but James Punt did fire in a couple of nice winners. His Saturday Evening European Darts Matchplay tips are below.
Luke Humphries vs. Cameron Menzies
The in form Humphries, up against the mercurial Scottish plumber. Humphries was the best player in the world at the end of May winning three Euro Tour events from five and being a losing semi-finalist in another. He has only played seven matches since then and won five, so we cannot be sure which Cool Hand will turn up. He needed a rest, but when is a good time to stop?
Menzies averaged 101 when beating Zonneveld 6-3 last night, the best performance of the day. The question is whether he can follow that up with another good performance. He doesn’t hit that many ton plus averages so it’s hard to say.
Humphries is the 1.28 favourite and as we have backed him outright, I’ll sit this one out and hope he can summon up his May form.
Saturday Evening European Darts Matchplay tip: No Bet
Jonny Clayton vs. Scott Williams
With Clayton not in great form, there is a chance for a bit of an upset here. Williams doesn’t have a tour card, but he is playing well, won a pro tour title a couple of weeks ago and he doesn’t lack for confidence. He averaged 96.8 in a 6-5 win over Radek Szagański, who averaged 97.5. He can win tough matches.
Saturday Evening European Darts Matchplay tip: 1 point Williams to win @ 4.33 with Ladbrokes
Daryl Gurney vs. Gabriel Clemens
Superchin faces the local boy and a local boy who is 5-1 up in their H2Hs. Clemens has not been in good form, losing six of his last ten matches and he has lost seven of his nine ET matches in 2022. Will home advantage be enough to turn that around? Maybe not. Most of these ET events are played in Germany and it hasn’t helped Clemens much so far.
Gurney has won seven of his last ten matches and is the 1.62 favourite. That is a fair refection of their form but that H2H record puts me off playing in this match.
Saturday Evening European Darts Matchplay tip: No Bet
Gerwyn Price vs. Rowby-John Rodriguez
Rodriguez ended one of our ante post selection’s hopes yesterday, defeating Danny Noppert in the deciding leg. The young Austrian showed good bottle, Noppert not so much.
He has won seven of his last ten matches and he has made the quarter finals of his last two Euro Tour events.
Gerwyn Price may not be in great form, but he does have a 6-0 H2H record against Rodriguez, with an accumulative leg score of 34-10. He has lost five of his last ten matches and Rodriguez is not without a chance if Price puts in one of his under par performances.
Price makes no appeal at 1.36 but that H2H record makes this a no bet for me.
Saturday Evening European Darts Matchplay tip: No Bet
Joe Cullen vs. Ian White
Ian White got a rare win last night, beating a poor Joe Murnan 6-1. It was a deserved win with a 95 average. He has lost six of his last ten and last night was his best form for a while. A sign of things to come, or a flash in the pan? He has a 11-6 H2H record against Cullen, but he has lost all their matches since 2019. That is three defeats in a row and coincides with his loss of form.
Joe Cullen has struggled in Europe this season and it will be interesting to see if he fares better now that the Premier League is finally over. Cullen has lost five of his last ten and has won just five of his thirteen ET matches in 2022.
Cullen is the 1.44 favourite and that looks about right. He has had three weeks off and with his batteries recharged and focus on making the European Championships, he should justify his odds. No bet.
Saturday Evening European Darts Matchplay tip: No bet
Martin Schindler vs. Madars Razma
Razma beat one German last night, Dragutin Horvat, 6-3, but now in faces a much tougher opponent in the diminutive form of Martin Schindler. Razma has won six of his last ten matches and his H2H record is 2-5 vs. Schindler, including a 2-6 defeat at the same stage in ET7 in May. He is an improving player, capable of good runs and he is not without a chance.
Schindler has won six of his last ten but struggles to get more than two or three wins together. He is playing better than that sounds and he is perfectly capable of going deep in any tournament.
Schindler is the 1.57 favourite but I’ll take him on the handicap and hope that he can repeat his most recent win over Razzmatazz. Two of their last three matches ended with a 6-2 win for Schindler, the other 6-3.
Saturday Evening European Darts Matchplay tip: 1 point Martin Schindler to win -1.5 legs @ 1.85 with Sporting Index
Saturday Evening European Darts Matchplay tip: 0.5 point Schindler to win 6-2 @ 8.50 with Unibet
Dimitri van den Bergh vs. Florian Hempel
Hempel, who hasn’t been in good form recently, beat Bradley Brooks 6-2, but both players were rubbish with Hempel averaging 79, Brooks 80.
Van den Bergh is on a bit of a roll, winning eight of his last ten. He should win this comfortably. Hempel beat Dimitri 3-1 in the World Championship, but he just looks to have lost his mojo.
Saturday Evening European Darts Matchplay tip: 1 point Van den Bergh to win -2.5 legs @ 1.73 with Betvictor
Dirk van Duijvenbode vs. Jeffery de Zwaan
An all Dutch affair with Dirk the 1.30 favourite. He was runner up to Van den Bergh in last week’s World Series final and has won seven of his last ten.
De Zwaan is still trying to find his form after injury and last lost seven of his last ten matches. Occasionally we see flashes of his old self, but only rarely and Dirk should continue his good run of form here.
Van Duijvenbode has an 8-4 H2H record with De Zwaan and won their last three in a row, the last two 6-2.
