Saturday Evening Hungarian Darts Trophy Tips

It was another profitable session for us this afternoon. James is on form and he has another preview for tonight. Check out James Punt’s Saturday Evening Hungarian Darts Trophy Tips below.

Rob Cross vs. Jeffery De Zwann

De Zwann is trying to make his way back into competitiveness after a few years blighted by injury. However, he remains a shadow of the player he once was. He beat a local qualifier 6-2 yesterday, averaging 85, but he now faces a player in very good form in the shape of Rob Cross. Voltage has won nine of his last ten matches having won PC24 before the break. He is 8-1 up against De Zwaan and is a 1.30 shot to improve on that.

Saturday Evening Hungarian Darts Trophy Tips: 1 point Rob Cross to win – 2.5 legs @ 2.04 with Unibet

Jose de Sousa vs. Raymond van Barneveld

De Sousa was showing better form before the summer break, winning six of his last ten matches, with four ton plus averages and he was more like his old self. He reached the quarter final of PC24, losing to eventual winner, Rob Cross. The Special One is 3-1 against Barney and they have met three times this year with Barney winning their last match 6-2 back in June. De Sousa won the other two, 6-4.

Barney is averaging a creditable 93.44 this season but his win rate is just 51%. He has won just two of his last ten and only reached this stage as he got a bye in the first round.

De Sousa is the 1.44 favourite but he should be able to cover the handicap.

Luke Humphries vs. Boris Krčmar

Boris is a tricky customer as he has a very good A game, hitting ton plus averages on a regular basis and he has a seasonal average of 93. His win rate is just 54% however, so he isn’t making the most of what he has got but is a dangerous opponent. He has won six of his last ten and won one of his three matches vs. Humphries.

Cool Hand Luke is a four time Euro Tour winner in 2022 and he has won five of his seven second round matches. He has won seven of his last ten matches and was scoring well before the break. He probably needed the summer break more than most and it will be interesting to see if he is sharper. He took time out after winning ET6 and 7 missed ET8 and returned to win ET9 so he may well go well again.

Humphries is the 1.30 favourite and that looks bang on. There is no great value in this match and I’ll sit this one out.

Joe Cullen vs. Martin Lukeman

Cullen has lost five of his last ten matches and for a player regarded as a Euro Tour specialist, he has lost his last four euro tour matches. I suspect that was at least in part due to him being tired from playing in the Premier League. It was all new for him and the extra travelling took a toll. He hasn’t really had a rest as he was on the tour down under. So, he didn’t get the month off, but the World Series is a bit of a holiday.

Lukeman beat Ian White 6-4 yesterday to make it five wins from his last ten. He is not the most consistent player and hard to call as a result, but he is capable of causing Cullen problems if he finds his A game.

Cullen is the 1.40 favourite which is fair enough but Lukeman has won five of his six last 32 stage matches. He likes his euro tour and he will be right up for this and under no pressure whatsoever. He is through to the finals and can just enjoy himself.

I’ll take a chance that he gives Cullen something to think about.

Saturday Evening Hungarian Darts Trophy Tips: 1 point Martin Lukeman to win +2.5 legs @ 1.67 with Boylesports, Betfred

Peter Wright vs. Jim Williams

Williams was poor when beating Brett Claydon 6-5 yesterday. He averaged just 84.5 and any more of that and he will get a spanking here. He is very much a part time player and has never gone beyond this stage on the Euro tour before. Williams has played Wright twice before and both required a deciding leg.

Peter Wright will be playing his first match since having surgery to remove his gallbladder. That should allow him to play pain free for the first time in a while and you would expect that to improve his form. He wasn’t playing badly before the break, scoring very well but not converting enough chances.

I expect a comfortable win for Snakebite tonight.

Saturday Evening Hungarian Darts Trophy Tips: 1 point Wright to win -2.5 legs @ 1.97 with Unibet

Michael van Gerwen vs. Simon Whitlock

The most interesting match of the night. We have done well by opposing MVG with Whitlock in recent years. After a long time without a win against Van Gerwen (he lost 15 in a row to MVG) he has won their last five in a row, including a 6-5 win in the world series last month. He enjoys playing MVG.

Van Gerwen is in good form, winning eight of his last ten matches. He won the World Matchplay and then took time out before going down under for the World Series where he picked up another title.

MVG is the better player but Whitlock has got under his skin and the Aussie could do with a win to improve his chance of making the finals. In the last three months, only Dirk van Duijvenbode and Michael Smith have been hitting 180s at a higher rate than Whitlock and that makes him dangerous.

Van Gerwen is the 1.38 favourite but the value lies with Whitlock at 3.50.

Saturday Evening Hungarian Darts Trophy Tips: 1 point Simon Whitlock to win @ 3.50 with SpreadEx

Nathan Aspinall vs. Stephen Bunting

Their H2H record is 3-3 with The Asp winning their last two. He is the better player in most departments, he is in very good form winning eight of his last ten and a 74% win rate in 2022. Aspinall is the 1.62 favourite but he will have seen Bunting average 103 when beating Rydz 6-0 last night.

That comprehensive win for Bunting was only his second in his last six and one of those defeats was a 4-6 defeat by Aspinall. This a potential bananaskin for Aspinall and as we have backed him outright, I’m in no rush to back him here.

Due to Formula 1 commitments there will be limited coverage of the darts tomorrow. I’ll skip the third round but hopefully be able to find time to cover the Quarters.
