Friday Evening Belgian Darts Open Tips
James Punt got off the mark with his first bet on Ryan Meikle this afternoon. He has another preview for tonight’s action, get his Friday Evening Belgian Darts Open tips below.
Rusty Jake-Rodriguez vs. Jeff Smith
These two met at the same stage at the Hungarian Darts Trophy and it was a 6-2 win for Rodriguez. He then went all the way to the quarter final so he will have positive mental associations with playing Smith.
Jeff Smith made the trip back across the Atlantic on Wednesday which doesn’t leave a lot of time to get used to the time difference and any jet lag. He has lost his last three matches and his 2022 win rate has fallen to 45%. He has won one of his three ET matches in 2022 but is yet to average above 90 in any.
Rusty-Jake is the 1.67 favourite which he should justify but there isn’t enough value to be backing him at the odds.

Bradley Brooks vs. Chris Dobey
Dobey, as frustrating as he is, has a very good 7-0 record over Brooks. They have met once a season for the last three years and Dobey has won 6-1, 6-3 and 6-1. He has a big scoring advantage over Brooks, nearly 8 points on their 2022 averages, and he should be able to make that tell. He is in decent nick winning seven of his last ten matches, Brooks five of his at senior level.
Friday Evening Belgian Darts Open tips: 1 point Chris Dobey to win -2.5 legs @ 1.91 with Hills, Betfair, Boylesports
Steve Beaton vs. Ross Smith
Steve Beaton is fighting to hang onto his tour card as he now sits 61st on the PDC O.O.M. A couple of wins this weekend would likely do it for him, but he is also playing in Gibraltar, so it is not a do or die match. From being a near permanent feature on the euro tour, Steve has only played twice in 2022 and won just the one match.
Ross Smith will be riding on the new dad crest of a wave and his ET form is pretty good with six wins from ten. He was very impressive in his last ET event, beating Noppert and Heta with very big averages. He is a confidence player, so hopefully he will be feeding off those performances and not the poor one against Peter Wright that followed.
Their H2H record is 7-5 to Smith and in 2022 it is 1-1. The money has been going on Beaton and he is a 2.90 outsider. We have a small wager on Smith outright for the tournament, which is probably enough interest for me, but over 9.5 legs makes some appeal at 2.05. However, with both matches ending 6-3 this year, I can see that going wrong.

Jamie Hughes vs. Vincent van der Voort
Vincent has played well after the summer break, winning three of his four matches and all averages in the low to mid 90s. He has played in four ET events this season, reaching a semi-final but also losing two opening matches. That is better than Yozza, who has played four and lost four.
Hughes was playing well before the summer break but has lost his two matches since. However, he played well enough in both matches, losing 5-6 to Larsson and 3-6 to Chizzy. Both matches saw him average in the mid 90s.
First Ever Meeting
These two have never met before which is a surprise, but on recent form, it looks like a very close match. Hughes has lost all four of his ET matches in 2022 and he is just looking to get a win and some ranking money under his belt. Amazingly, seven of Yozza’s last eight defeats have been 5-6, which must be very frustrating, but it shows that he is no pushover even in defeat and I suspect we will get a tight one.
The money has been coming for Yozza and he starts the 1.85 favourite. It is a hard one to call but I’ll take the cowards way and go for over 9.5 legs.
Friday Evening Belgian Darts Open tips: 1 point over 9.5 legs with Hills, Boylesports, Ladbrokes
Kim Huybrechts vs. Steve West
Two players who are in poor form, but one will have 2000+ punters cheering him on. Huybrechts is the godfather of modern Belgian darts, and he will feed off the energy. Steve West has fallen off the radar in recent years but can still throw in a good performance. He is ranked 65th in the PDC O.O.M. and really needs a bit of a run if he is to keep his card.
Kim has lost four of his last five matches and six of his last ten matches have seen sub 90 averages. West has won just four of his last ten and only three have seen a 90+ average. Don’t expect a classic, but the crowd are likely to be the deciding factor.
They have a 3-2 H2H record in favour of Huybrechts and their only recent match was a 6-4 win for Huybrechts. Something similar would be no surprise and it worth a very speculative small bet.
Friday Evening Belgian Darts Open tips: 0.5 point Huybrechts to win 6-4 @ 6.00 generally available
Andrew Gilding vs. Simon Whitlock
These two have met six times with Whitlock winning four, but their last match was in 2018. The Wizard has won their only two stage matches. Whitlock is not in great form, losing six of his last ten but at least he has been playing since the summer break and he won two ET matches at the start of the month, including his usual win over MVG.
Andrew Gilding has not played for 6 weeks but he won six of his last ten before the break, losing the last three in a row, all with averages of 90. In the summer, he was one of THE form players and reached the final of PC19 and the semi-final of ET8. That form dropped off and it is hard to know what to expect.
Win Needed
Both players need the win as this is their last chance to book a place in the European Championship. It is a high pressure match. Gilding might only need to win this match to book his place, Whitlock needs to reach the third round, which he did in his last ET event. He is the master of just doing enough and hard to stop when he puts his mind to it.
The market has Gilding as the 1.85 favourite and Whitlock the 2.10 outsider.
It is a difficult one to call just because we haven’t seen Gilding for a while. If he was still in his summer form, then he is a great bet at 1.85, but if he is a bit rusty, Whitlock’s determination could be enough. You can never write the Aussie off.
