Saturday Evening UK Open Darts Preview

Another session, another slew of winners for James Punt. Unfortunately, our outright hopes have been dashed but there are still more betting opportunities to come. Check out his Saturday Evening UK Open darts preview below.

Not Good Enough

All our ante post bets are down the toilet at the 5th round stage. Not good enough, the lot of them. I’ll have a very quick guess at tonight’s matches but there is insufficient time between the draw and the matches being played, so it really is just gut feel. It doesn’t help that the database has crashed, but here we go. All prices are with Ladbrokes because they are first to price up and everyone else is just copying them.

Brendan Dolan vs. Andrew Gilding

The glamour tie of the night to kick off with. Gilding has strolled through his matches so far, dropping just 12 legs. Dolan was down and out vs. Van der Voort last night but squeaked through before beating Chris Dobey today. Gilding has the stronger game and can grind just as good as Dolan.

Saturday Evening UK Open Tip: 1 point Andrew Gilding to win @ 1.85 with Ladbrokes

Nathan Aspinall vs. Joe Cullen

This is one I would like to have the database for. Could be a close one but without sight of their H2H record I’m not playing.

Saturday Evening UK Open Tip: No Bet

William O’Connor vs. Adam Gawlas

O’Connor is going great guns, clearly his positive mental associations from last year have got him firing on all cylinders. Gawlas is one of the classic UK Open stories. He has got the good draws and taken his chances. He played a couple of good matches but so has O’Connor. The Irishman is the 1.65 favourite which is bit short, but I suspect he wins.

Saturday Evening UK Open Tip: No Bet

Peter Wright vs. Ritchie Burnett

A very handy draw for Snakebite. He hasn’t played well but Burnett has got steadily worse and he looks spent. He really did fall over the line vs. Evetts and if Wright doesn’t smash him up I would be surprised. But I said the same thing about De Zwaan.

Saturday Evening UK Open Tip: 0.5 point Peter Wright to win 10-5 @ 6.50 with Ladbrokes

Jonny Clayton vs. Martin Schindler

Schindler played great against Adrian Lewis, averaging 101.2. He has been playing well but tends to pull up when going deep. He is a big threat to Clayton, who has his own problems at the latter end of events these days.

They have only met twice and it’s 1-1. Clayton is the better all round player but Schindler is a decent outsider. The early odds have Schindler at 3.20, Clayton 1.36. There is some value in the German’s odds. The Ferret has played OK so far but Schindler can give him a game.

Saturday Evening UK Open Tip: 1 point over 16.5 legs @ 2.00 with Ladbrokes

Gary Anderson vs. Dimitri van den Bergh

Again, this is one where the database would help. Gary likes to get on with it and he won’t like Dimitri slowing things down. The Belgian knows how to press Gary’s buttons. Both have played some good stuff and it could be close, but I’ll leave this one.

Saturday Evening UK Open Tip: No Bet

Jeffrey de Zwaan vs. Rob Cross

The Swan knocked out our number one selection with a 10-8 win over Gerwyn Price. It was a sublime performance, but god knows where it came from. He averaged 105 and it was vintage De Zwaan from his pre-injury days.

Cross showed no mercy to Steve Beaton, averaging 101 and winning 10-3. He averaged 99 in his 10-9 defeat of RVB last night, so he has played well.

This is all about De Zwaan. He played three pretty ordinary matches to reach the 5th round and then found his A+ game. A flash in the pan, or is he back? Probably not, but Cross can hit his own flat spots and a fit and firing De Zwaan can beat anyone.

Saturday Evening UK Open Tip: 1 point Jeffrey de Zwaan to win @ 3.10 with Ladbrokes

Michael van Gerwen vs. Luke Humphries

If Humphries does go on to win the title, he will have done it the hard way. A 10-9 win over Michael Smith and a 10-9 win over Damon Heta. Two of the game’s big hitters. And now he gets MVG. He has beaten him here before and he deserves a break. MVG has hit two 98 averages, but he can crumble under pressure these days.

Saturday Evening UK Open Tip:  0.5 point Humphries to win 10-9 @ 10.00 with Ladbrokes
