Friday Night International Darts Open Tips

We didn’t have a preview for this afternoon’s session as James couldn’t find much value in the markets. He has already posted an outright betting preview, check that out here. His Friday Night International Darts Open selections are below.

Kim Huybrechts vs. Lee Evans

If you have ever wondered what happened to that rubber faced comedy actor and stand-up comedian, keep on wondering, because this Lee Evans isn’t him. This Lee Evans won his tour card in January and since then he has played 25 matches and won 10. He has lost eight of his last ten matches.

Two-time International Darts Open runner up, Kim Huybrechts, was the surprise, nay, shock winner of PC3 in February. He has won seven of his last ten matches and is the 1.44 favourite to win this.

Friday Night International Darts Open Tip: 1 point Kim Huybrechts to win -1.5 legs @ 1.75 with Ladbrokes

Niko Springer vs. Scott Williams

It was a late call up for Scott Williams who was on the reserve list. Can he take advantage of his good fortune? He will hope so, but he is in dire form, losing 77% of his matches in 2023 and seven of his last ten.

Springer has won 88% of his matches in 2023, albeit that he is not a tour card holder. He is averaging 92.3 in 2023 which is better than Williams 88.4. We saw him play in ET1 and he beat Jermain Wattimena 6-4 in the first round, before losing 4-6 to Michael Smith.

Williams is a very good player but very much out of form, while Springer has the home crowd advantage and is playing better.

Friday Night International Darts Open Tip: 1 point Niko Springer to win @ 2.10 with William Hill

Callan Rydz vs. Mike de Decker

De Decker is another from the reserve list. The Belgian is very talented, and frustrating, in equal measures. He has won six of his last ten matches and has played some good stuff with a couple of 103 averages in his last four. He is averaging 94.3 in 2023.

Rydz is averaging 94.5 in 2023 and has won six of his last ten, so there is nothing to separate them on recent form. Their H2H record is 4-2 to Rydz and he beat De Decker 6-4 three weeks ago.

Rydz is the 1.83 favourite with De Decker 2.00. It is a tough call. De Decker has been playing a bit better than Rydz who has been very inconsistent of late. De Decker is tempting but the odds are not great and I will go for it being a close affair. Both of the previous best of 11 leg matches have ended 6-4.

Friday Night International Darts Open Tip: 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 1.91 with Ladbrokes, Boylesports

Andrew Gilding vs. Daryl Gurney

There can’t be many Euro Tour first round matches that feature the winners of three major titles, but here it is. Andrew Gilding was the winner of this year’s UK Open at the start of the month and this is his first return to a stage since then. His post UK open form hasn’t been great with six played and four lost.

Two time major winner Daryl Gurney has been showing signs of a return to the kind of form that won him those titles, but he has been showing his best form in the Euro Tour qualifiers rather than in the actual events.

Hot And Cold On Doubles

He has won six of his last ten matches and hit two 106 averages in his last five. His doubling is very hot and cold and that is stopping him putting longer runs together, but once that clicks, he will be a potent force once again.

Their H2H record is 4-2 to Gilding but they haven’t played since 2019 and five of the six were 2016 or earlier, so it’s cold form. If Superchin is on his doubles he should win, if not Gilding will pick him off.

The money has been going down on a Gurney win and he is the marginal 1.91 favourite to win, with Gilding 1.95. I can’t argue with those odds and the temptation is to go with over 9.5 legs. Both players have a 69% win rate in 2023 and their seasonal averages are within a point of each other.

Friday Night International Darts Open Tip: 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 1.91 with Ladbrokes, Boylesports

Florian Hempel vs. James Wilson

James Wilson made the semi-final here back in 2016, but he will be happy just to get a win on the board this weekend. His win rate in 2023 is just 35% and he has lost six of his last ten matches. His last five have seen averages of 87, 77, 82, 85 and 89. That isn’t going to get him very far, but he is not without a chance here.

Hempel’s win rate in 2023 is just 30% and he is averaging 86. He has lost seven of his last ten matches. Half of those saw sub 85 averages with a best of 92.

I am not expecting a lot of quality, but somebody has to win. Wilson is the 1.86 favourite with Hempel 2.15. This is not a betting match for me. No bet.

Friday Night International Darts Open Tip: No Bet

Ross Smith vs. Pavvo Myller

Smith should justify his odds of 1.05. No bet.

Friday Night International Darts Open Tip: No Bet

Raymond van Barneveld vs. Stephen Burton

Barney got a call up from the reserve list and he is the 1.30 favourite with Burton 4.00.

Van Barneveld has won six of his last ten matches, he is playing well enough and he will be tough to beat. His seasonal average is a very respectable 95.2 and he hit two high 90 averages last week but lost out to MVG in the second round.

Burton has lost six of his last ten matches and while he has a decent A game, there are too many sub 90 averages to think that a surprise is on the cards here. No bet.

Friday Night International Darts Open Tip: No Bet

Gabriel Clemens vs. Simon Whitlock

Clemens is struggling on the Euro Tour again. He was the same last year until he made a couple of quarter finals late in the season, but he has never done as well as he should have. When I say that he is struggling, I mean he is struggling to win.

He has lost both his first round matches in 2023, both 5-6, and he averaged 98 and 100 in defeats to Daryl Gurney and Ian White. Over his career, Clemens has played 32 first round matches and lost 19, including seven of his last ten, so he will be a bit nervous in front of another home crowd.

Lesser Spotted Wizard

The Wizard is rarely spotted on the Euro Tour these days, but this is the first of three straight ET events for him. He was runner up to Gerwyn Price here in 2018 so he has some good memories of Riesa. He has won five of his last ten matches and his seasonal average in 2023 is 92.7, a little better than Clemens 92.4.

Whitlock is very experienced on the Euro Tour, only winning one title way back in 2012, but he usually gets off to a good start. In the last three years he has won nine of his fourteen opening matches.

Obviously, Clemens is something of a rising star, even if his rise is a bit pedantic, while Whitlock is in the autumn of his career. That said, he loves the game and always give it his best shot. When he gets his eye in, he can still punch.

Their H2H record is 2-1 to Whitlock but the last time they played was 2020. Clemens is the 1.80 favourite with Whitlock 2.10. Given that both are scoring much the same this season, this could be a long match.
