German Darts GP Sunday evening Preview

James Punt’s German Darts GP Sunday evening preview and tips are below.

Dimitri van den Bergh vs. Chris Dobey

As if the Premier League isn’t enough, we now get another helping of these two on the euro tour. Van den Bergh has lost his last four matches, but he isn’t playing that badly. Yes, there have been a couple of sub 90 averages but otherwise his scoring has been good to very good.

Dobey is in much the same boat, losing five of his last ten but his scoring has also been generally very good. There have been a couple of sub 90’s but on the whole he is high 90’s and his last two have seen ton plus averages, including his 6-1 win over Martinez last night.

Their H2H record is 7-4 to Dimitri and he has won their last three. One was a 6-3 win in the PL. Before that they had not met since 2021.Of their ten matches only three have gone beyond a ninth leg. Strange for two players who are quite similar in terms of scoring. Maybe they are just players who let the head drop too quickly.

My gut instinct was to see this a close contest that could go to a deciding leg, but past form says otherwise. Pass.

Danny Noppert vs. Liam Maendl-Lawrence

A repeat of last week’s second round match which Noppert won 6-5. He did not enjoy the slow pace of his opponent, but he knows what is coming this time, but will he deal with it any better? His form is not great, losing five of his last ten matches. He did reach the semi-final of ET2 but got lucky in the quarter final. Beating Heta 6-4 despite averaging just 89.9.

Maendl-Lawrence beat Robert Owen 6-5 last night which was a nice little win for us. Painful to watch, but nice.

Noppert is the 1.14 favourite to win but this is more about how he wins it. Can he get the job done in fewer legs, or will he get dragged into a tawdry, low scoring borefest?

We have seen Maendl-Lawrence play three matches now and all have gone over 10 legs. You can get 2.90 over 9.5 legs or 1.90 over 8.5. I’ll take the less risky option despite the big odds on the over 9.5.

German Darts GP Sunday Tip: 1 point over 8.5 legs @ 1.90 with Fitzdares

Michael Smith vs. Adam Warner

Warner was giving it large in his 6-4 win over Mario Vandenbogaerde. There is something odd about someone wearing beige chino’s bigging it up. I wonder if he will try and put it up Smith, the reigning World Championship. He might well get the chance.

Smith is not in great form, losing seven of his last ten matches. He has played five euro tour matches and won two this season. He lost 1-6 to Mike de Decker last weekend and followed that up with a 1-6 defeat to Peter Wright in the PL on Thursday. He is playing better than all that sounds, but losing is losing and not a good habit to pick up.

Warner won his first euro tour match yesterday, but his form is poor, also losing seven of his last ten matches. Smith is losing at Premier League level, Warner at pro tour level. He has played 25 matches since he won his tour card, and he has lost 15. He is averaging 87.4 and he is light in the scoring department.

Smith’s poor form is relative, and he should be licking Warner’s chino clad arse up and down the oche. I suspect if Warner gives it large, that is exactly what will happen. Warner has played just one Premier League player so far and lost that 0-6 to Jonny Clayton in his very first pro tour match. That is his only defeat to nil so far and he should get something on the scoreboard.

German Darts GP Sunday Tip: 0.5 point Michael Smith to win 6-2 @ 4.75 with Fitzdares

Gerwyn Price vs. Raymond van Barneveld

Price is the 1.36 favourite, as you would expect for a man who has won the last two euro tour titles and eight of his last ten matches. However, his record against Barney is 4-8. Barney famously beat Price twice in the 2022 Grand Slam, his third win in a row against Price that year. Since then, Price has taken his revenge, beating RVB 0-4 in the World Championship and 6-1 in a players championship match last month. This match makes no great appeal betting wise.

German Darts GP Sunday Tip: No Bet

Damon Heta vs. Gabriel Clemens

Heta seems to be finally getting to grips with the euro tour. He has won all three of his opening matches this season and played well in all of them. He has gone out tamely in the quarter finals in the last two weeks, but at least he is getting into the tournaments.

The same cannot be said for Clemens. He lost is first two euro tour matches 5-6 this season, won his third 6-5 but lost in the next round and he struggled to beat the Nordic & Baltic qualifier 6-4 last night. It is all a bit of a struggle for Clemens. Perhaps the added pressure of playing in front of a home crowd is not helping him.

Their H2H record is 4-2 to Heta and the Aussie has won all three of their stage matches. Four of their six matches have required ten legs.

Heta is the 1.67 favourite, Clemens 2.28.

German Darts GP Sunday Tip: Damon Heta to win -1.5 legs @ 2.15 with Ladbrokes

Peter Wright vs. Lee Evans

Lee Evans seems to have figured out how to play in euro tour first round matches. He averaged 99.9 in last week’s opener to beat Kim Huybrechts 6-5, and yesterday 95.2 to beat Alan Soutar 6-2. He has played well above his seasonal average of 89.6. Evans has lost seven of his last ten matches and he went down 0-6 to De Sousa in last week’s second round, averaging just 78.

Peter Wright has had a horrible time on and off the oche lately, but there have been signs that normal service is not far away. He has won four of his last ten matches, which sounds bad, but it is an improvement. On a really positive note he has won four of his last six and he had wins over Michael Smith and Gerwyn Price on Thursday.

Wright is the 1.29 favourite with Evans on 3.80. It is not a great betting match. No bet.

German Darts GP Sunday Tip: No Bet

Martin Schindler vs. Jim Williams

Williams played nicely in his 6-3 win over Vincent van der Voort last night. It was a 95 average and a welcome win after what has been a bit of a dry spell for Williams. He has won five of his last ten, but just two of his last seven. His European experience is quite limited having only played 13 matches and losing 7. He has only won one second round match.

Schindler has also lost five of his last ten, but he is much more experienced on the euro tour, and he has already reached a quarter final and semi-final this season. Schindler doesn’t struggle with playing at home like Clemens does and he will have a few thousand fans cheering him on again tonight.

German Darts GP Sunday Tip: 1 point Martin Schindler to win @ 1.81 with Unibet

Luke Humphries vs. Jeffrey de Zwaan

De Zwaan came from 1-4 down to beat Dolan 6-5 yesterday. It was a decent performance in the end, averaging 94.8 but Dolan should have wrapped it up earlier. De Zwaan has a good win rate of 67% in 2023, but he has struggled recently, losing six of his last ten and hitting six sub 90 averages. Clearly, he is not banker material.

Humphries hasn’t played for just about three weeks now, but he was playing well up to that point, winning seven of his last ten matches and he was runner up in the only euro tour event he has played in this season. He is the defending champion and winning this last year was a big deal for him.

Humphries is the 1.36 favourite and De Zwaan 3.25. I would want to see more of a player before considering backing them at such short odds and De Zwaan’s recent form isn’t much to write home about. No bet.
