2023 Scottish Grand National Betting Tip – DS
2023 Scottish Grand National Ante-Post Tip
The 2023 Scottish Grand National will be run at Ayr this Saturday and it is live on ITV. After our struggles at Aintree I wasn’t relishing this race but after looking at it more closely today, there is one horse that jumps out as a potential plot job. Waitnsee, trained in Ireland by John Ryan, was last sighted finishing well behind Espanito Bello in the Leinster National at Naas.
Her recent form figures of 0785P8 hardly inspire confidence and they explain why she is a 50/1 shot here. However, she hasn’t had her preferred ground once so far this season and that 5th, which came in the Cork National, was a pretty good run considering it was bottomless. She was beaten 15L off a mark of 130 and she is in off 126 for this contest.
Nice Ground
The run that makes her of interest was her superb effort on nice ground at Punchestown (31f gd) last Spring. Sent off at 50/1, she ran a cracking race to finish 3rd and only for being badly hampered at the third last, she could have finished a lot closer to the 13L winner. That run came off 133 and she has had excuses on her last two handicap chase starts on a decent surface.
In the Kerry National she was hampered early and she never got into the race. It as the same story in the Blazers at Galway, though the 22f trip was also probably a bit too sharp for her on that occasion. This will be her first run at an extreme trip on this sort of ground since Punchestown and she’ll be carrying very little weight.
G3 Winner
After this 9yo daughter of Arctic Cosmos won a Grade 3 at Cork in April 2021 Ryan said that ‘The owners are UK-based and there’s a possibility of her going there for some of the good races, possibly at Perth.’
Well, this may not be Perth but it is a good race and it is her first ever run in the UK so fingers crossed, she’ll be trying. The forecast is for no rain so conditions should be ideal for Waitnsee and she is lurking on a nice low mark. If she can reproduce what she showed on her last start at 31f on good ground, she’ll be there or thereabouts at odds of 50/1.
