Hungarian Darts Trophy Quarter-Finals Preview
No database for James Punt this afternoon but he still fired in a couple of lovely winners. He has one final darts preview for this weekend, check out James’ Hungarian Darts Trophy Quarter-Finals tips below.
Luke Humphries vs. Luke Woodhouse
Having tipped up Humphries to win the tournament this morning, I was kicking the cat when I found out he had woken up with a back spasm and was far from fit to play.
He then gingerly walked onto the stage averaged 106 and beat Schindler 6-1. That is back to back averages of 108.5 and 106. That’s insanely good darts.
Luke Woodhouse beat Peter Wright 6-2 and it was another very strong performance, averaging 100.3 and 46% on the doubles. It was too good for Snakebite and I’m glad to have hedged off with Woodhouse.
He can relax now, knowing that he has done enough to qualify for the Grand Prix. Mind you, trying to qualify seems to have focused his mind on upping his game this weekend. Maybe relaxed is not what he needs.
Humphries Edges H2H
These two have met seven times and Humphries has won four, including their only match in 2023, a 6-1 win in PC1 back in February. They have never met on stage before and this will be Woodhouse’s first ever Euro Tour quarter final.
Humphries is the 1.44 favourite with Woodhouse a 3.10 shot. We are on Humphries outright and I’m not going to risk any more cash on a player with a back spasm. Hopefully he can carry on playing as he has done so far. If so, he’ll be hard to beat.

Gerwyn Price vs. Damon Heta
Price was very nearly as impressive as Humphries in his 6-4 win over Cullen. He didn’t score as well as Humphries but he didn’t miss a double. Six from six checkouts and two of them were via double-double checkouts, so eight from eight. That is nice form going into the Grand Prix in eight days’ time.
Damon Heta edged out a below par Gian van Veen 6-4 with both players averaging under 87. Van Veen was feeling the heat, not pressure from The Heat, but the pressure of having to qualify for the Grand Prix.
Heta Up Against It
With Woodhouse having won earlier, he knew he needed the win and it got to him. Heta hasn’t been in great form coming into this event and he is right up against it here.
Their H2H record is 9-4 to Price and he is 3-0 on the Euro Tour, but it is Heta who has won their last three in a row and four of their last five. He seems to have the knack of putting Price off his game.
Recent form says that Price wins this and probably easily, but that H2H record is unnerving. Price is the 1.36 favourite and Heta 3.10. The head says Price wins but the H2H record is enough to make me sit this one out. No bet.

Mike de Decker vs. Scott Williams
Two more players making their first Euro Tour semi-finals. One of them will make the semi-final and then, who knows?
Mike de Decker may be finally realising his potential. I believe he has now finished his further education and is now a full time darts player. That may be the difference. He averaged 98.7 with a 46% checkout rate and he has had to beat Gilding, Rock and now Smith to get this far.
Williams hasn’t hit any big averages to get this far and he has taken advantage of some sloppy play by his opponents. He has that ability to hang in there and take his chances when they come. He is an awkward opponent who gets into other players’ heads.
Their H2H record is not extensive. They have played twice and it is 1-1. Both were played this year and Williams won their most recent match 6-4 and that was in July.
De Decker is the better player in most of the statistical metrics but both will inevitably have one eye on a semi-final. The player that can stay in this match is likely to win.
Hungarian Darts Trophy Quarter-Finals tips: 1 point Mike De Decker to win -1.5 legs @ 1.95 with Ladbrokes
Both their matches have produced five 180s, ten from a total of 19 legs. De Decker is a top 10 player for 180s per leg and he found his range on the treble 20 this afternoon, hitting four.
Williams is none too shabby on the maximums himself, hitting six vs. Dirk van Duijvenbode yesterday and a couple against Noppert today. Hopefully they can ping off each other and we get a hatful.

Michael van Gerwen vs. Dave Chisnall
The draw has been very kind to Chisnall so far. Scott Mitchell and Rowby-John Rodriguez are not exactly heavyweights and he has only dropped three legs across his two matches.
Chizzy has played in three Euro Tour finals already this season, winning two, so he is perfectly happy with the routine of Sundays in Europe, as is MVG of course.
Van Gerwen survived a scare against Jonny Clayton, and once again, his doubling was poor. He averaged 104 but missed thirteen doubles. He kept on giving Clayton chances and he should have won easier than he did.
MVG Reliant On Scoring
Van Gerwen is relying on his scoring to be enough to win, but Chizzy is capable of matching him in that department and if he can, then he is favourite to win.
Their H2H record is 41-7 to MVG, but Chizzy has won three of their last five, starting with 5-0 whitewash in the 2021 World Championship and more recently in the semi-final of ET 6 back in April, which Chisnall went on to win.
MVG is the 1.40 favourite with Chisnall 3.00.
Double Trouble
Chisnall is a better player against MVG than he used to be, most players are. Van Gerwen still has fantastic scoring power, but his doubling can let him down and does so seemingly quite often these days.
That gives Chizzy a chance and he is much more confident in winning titles in 2023. I’ll have small play on a close match and Chisnall to edge it. Their two matches in 2023 have been close affairs with a total leg score of 16-15 to MVG.
