2024 WC Darts Saturday Afternoon Preview & Tips
It didn’t take James Punt long to get off the mark at the Ally Pally. We were a shade unfortunate with our 3-1 Menzies bet, but thankfully Paolo Nebrida easily covered the handicap vs Whitlock to give us our first winner of the tournament at odds of 2.40. Let’s hope for more of the same today, check out James Punt’s 2024 WC Darts Saturday Afternoon preview below.
Lee Evans vs. Sandro-Eric Sosing
Two Ally Pally debutants, but only one is a tour card holder, albeit only for one year. Lee Evans has lost five of his last six matches, but his one win was against Michael van Gerwen. That sort of sums up his debut season.
His win rate is a modest 54% but he has picked up wins against players like Rob Cross, Peter Wright, Dirk van Duijvenbode (pre-injury), Joe Cullen, Dave Chisnall, Jonny Clayton and MVG. Clearly, he has also lost plenty of matches, but he is not without a decent A-game.
His stage experience is limited and since winning a tour card he has played in two ranking majors and failed to win a match. I expect that record to improve here and it is a very nice first round draw for Evans.
Sandro-Eric Sosing is one of four Pilipino players to qualify for this World Championship. He qualified via the PDC Asia Championship where he was runner up. His seasonal average is just 80.7, but he hit a 97.2 in one match in that event. That being said, it would be a surprise if he was to repeat that here.
Evans is the 1.25 favourite with Sosing at 4.50. It isn’t a great betting proposition and I’ll skip this one.

Conor Scutt vs. Krzysztof Kciuk
Scutt was a surprise runner up in October’s PC27 where, amongst others, he beat Ross Smith, Gary Anderson and Gian van Veen along the way. He only just missed out on a place at the Grand Slam, losing 4-5 to Damon Heta in his final qualifying match.
Scutt has hit some decent form at the right time, and just as well because the rest of his season was hardly inspiring. His job of work is to win this match, and probably another, in order to keep his tour card. He is under quite a bit of pressure and could have got an easier draw.
Ranking Money Needed
Krzysztof Kciuk will still have a tour card next year, but he will need to start accumulating more ranking money if he is to retain it this time next year. This is a great opportunity to make a good step forward.
However, his recent form sees just three wins from his last ten Pro Tour matches. He has had to play some top players which explains some of those losses and his recent form in general, but one of his recent losses was to Scutt, a 4-6 loss in a World Series Finals qualifier.
Their H2H record is 2-1 to Scutt and he is the better player in better form. He isn’t a massively better player, but he certainly has enjoyed a bit of recent success and so long as the pressure to win isn’t too much, he should do so.
Scutt is the 1.53 favourite with Kciuk 2.80. The odds look about right and there will be better opportunities over the next few days.

Jules van Dongen vs. Darren Penhall
Van Dongen was in good form in late Summer/early Autumn, winning twice on the CDC Tour but back on the Pro Tour he has lost six of his last ten matches. He had been scoring very well with lots of high 90 averages, but his last seven matches have seen four sub 90s. It is hard to pin down just where his game is.
Penhall, the Cornish born Australian, has had an on/off career and this is one last fling, ticking the World Championship box. He had a tour card for three years before upping sticks to go and live down under.
Having retired from darts, he was persuaded to have a go on the DPA tour and he enjoys it enough to have won seven DPA pro tour titles in 2023. His seasonal average is 87.3, so he will likely need to find his A game to win this.
Van Dongen is the 1.44 favourite with Penhall 2.88.
This looks like an afternoon to get the Christmas shopping, as it is another no bet.
The final match of the afternoon is between Dave Chisnall and the winner of the Cameron Menzies/Rusty-Jake Rodriguez match played on the opening night.
2024 WC Darts Saturday Afternoon Tip: No Bet
Dave Chisnall vs. Cameron Menzies
Chizzy has won seven of his last ten matches, but there has been a bit of a lack of consistency. He has hit three big ton plus averages and another four 96+, but there have also been three sub 93s. He has won five titles in 2023 but still none on TV. Chisnall is a veteran of twelve World Championships and he has only lost two last 64 stage matches.
Menzies won his opening match 3-0 vs. Rusty Jake Rodriguez. It should have been 3-1, but Rodriguez missed six darts to win the third set. The Austrian only averaged 81.8 and it was far from a quality match. Menzies went out at this stage last year and Chisnall is the 1.34 favourite to end Menzies’ championship.
They have met four times previously with Chisnall winning the last three, all in 2022. Chisnall averaged over a ton in all three wins, Menzies all sub 90s. The Scotsman is a better player this year, but good enough to give Chizzy a proper game? Not if Chisnall turns up with his 96+ head on.
Chisnall has won seven of his second round matches either 3-0 (x5) or 3-1 and that looks a reasonable bet for this one.
