2024 WC Darts Sunday Evening Preview & Tips

Matt Campbell got embroiled against Ilagan and cost us our -1.5 set bet this afternoon. He missed five match darts at 2-0 and ended up winning 3-2. Frustrating. Darren Penhall also had chances but he didn’t take them. Let’s hope for a change in luck tonight, James’ 2024 WC Darts Sunday evening match previews and tips are below.

Dylan Slevin vs. Florian Hempel

Slevin was in poor form in the run up to this, losing six of his last ten matches. His scoring has been weak for a while and his seasonal average of 89.5 is very representative of where his game is right now.

Hempel has won six of his last ten matches and while his seasonal average is right there with Slevin on 89.3, the German has been playing better than that. Seven of his last ten matches saw 94 plus averages and five 97+.

Hempel has enjoyed some success at The Palace. He famously beat Dimitri van den Bergh in the second round in the 2022 Championship and overall he has played five matches and won three, winning both his first round matches. Last year he took Luke Humphries to a deciding leg in the second round.

Hempel is the 1.57 favourite with Slevin on the drift at 2.50.

It might feel like something of a home match for Hempel, such is the size of the German contingent of fans who make their way to Ally Pally every year.

Niels Zonneveld vs. Darren Webster

This is a blast from the past. Darren Webster last played in the World Championship in 2021 and has played in ten in total, reaching the quarter finals twice.

Injury has blighted his game in the last few years and his win rate in 2023 is just 32%. He found some decent form to win four matches at the tour card holders qualifying tournament, averaging 91+ in all four.

Zonneveld has played in two previous World Championships and lost his first round match on both occasions, both without winning a set. The Dutchman has won five of his last ten matches and he may be the most inconsistent player in the tournament.

We last saw him at the Players Championship where he averaged 100 when beating Daryl Gurney, 98 when beating Jonny Clayton and he followed that up with an 82 in a 1-10 drubbing by Gabriel Clemens. He has averaged 82 in three of his last six matches, but also hit two ton plus averages and a 98.

Zonneveld A Warm Order

Zonneveld is the 1.33 favourite with Webster 3.45. The problem with this match is that you don’t know which Zonneveld will turn up, never mind what Webster will do. The temptation is to have a little flutter on Webster and hope that the 82 Zonneveld turns up.

However, I have not seen Webster throw a dart for a couple of years and It is hard to judge form without having had some eyes on the player. Minimum stakes only as Zonneveld looks very short odds given his hit or miss form

2024 WC Darts Sunday evening tip: 0.5 point Darren Webster to win @ 3.45 win Unibet

Jermaine Wattimena vs. Fallon Sherrock

Well, well. The player I most enjoy opposing vs. the Queen of the Palace. It is a fascinating match. Wattimena is the 1.36 favourite with Fallon Sherrock on the drift at 3.25.

Wattimena is in reasonable form, winning six of his last ten matches, with a fair degree of inconsistency scoring wise. This will be his tenth appearance at Ally Pally and he has won just three matches.

Fallon Sherrock is always hard to call as she plays much of her darts in the Women’s series, which is not very competitive.

She played in the Modus Super Series in the build up to the Grand Slam and while she only won one match (beating Martijn Kleermaker 5-4) she played reasonably well. Playing MVG and Rob Cross in the other two matches was a big ask, and Wattimena is not in their class.

2020 Run

Sherrock famously reached the third round here in the 2020 championship but has lost in the first round for the last two years. She took Steve Beaton to a deciding set two years ago and lost 1-3 to Ricky Evans last year.

Sherrock will have the crowd on her side but the novelty of playing against the men has worn off and there is less of the ‘fear factor’ on her opponents’ shoulders. However, if she can slow Wattimena own and get him a bit flustered, he can fold like a cheap raincoat.

2024 WC Darts Sunday evening tip: 1 point Fallon Sherrock to win +1.5 sets @ 2.10 with Unibet

Luke Humphries vs. Lee Evans

These two used to play county darts together back in the day. Since then, Luke Humphries has risen to number 3 in the World rankings while Evans has only had his tour card since January.

Qualifying for the world championship was the target and getting to the second round is a very nice bonus. He has lost six of his last ten matches and one of those defeats was a 3-6 loss to Luke Humphries. Evans had an easy ride against Sosing in the first round, winning it 3-0 and dropping just three legs. Needless to say, this will be very different.

Humphries is the tournament favourite and the best player in the world on recent form. There is pressure on him, he will be expected to blow Evans away but the first match is always the hardest for the fancied players.

Humphries is the 1.07 favourite and there is no need to get involved in this match. No bet.

2024 WC Darts Sunday evening tip: No bet
