2024 WC Darts Tuesday Preview & Tips
Another difficult night of punting on Monday. Mario Vandenbogaerde missed too many doubles and Conor Scutt didn’t produce his best. We go again this afternoon, check out James Punt’s 2024 WC Darts Tuesday match previews and tips below.
Missed Doubles
Four losing tips in a row now. All four selections had checkout rates of less than 27%. It is very hard to win a game of darts at this level with such poor doubling. Hopefully all of today’s selections can hit a few doubles and give us a chance.
Ian White vs. Tomoya Goto
There were worse draws for Ian White to get as he fights to hang on to his tour card. The multiple PDC title winner has dropped to 62nd in the world rankings and there are enough players just behind him and still in the tournament who could push White out, should he lose this. If he wins, happy days and the heat is off.
White has improved his game in the last 12 months, improving his seasonal average to 93.84. However, his recent form is not good, losing six of his last ten matches. It has to be said that he is a player who really hasn’t enjoyed many of his trips to the Palace on the Hill.
He has played nineteen matches here and won just eight. Three of those came in the 2014 Championship when he reached the quarter final. Nine of White’s eleven opening matches have lasted four sets and only one was a three setter.
Asian Tour Winner
Is Tomoya Goto good enough to get a set on the board, or more? He has won tour Asian Tour titles, the latest saw him beat Paolo Nebrida 5-1 in the final and he averaged 100.21. His seasonal average is just 86.05 so a ton plus average is an outlier, but his A-game is high 90s so he has ability. It is just a matter of being able to play his best on the big stage.
Japan have produced some players who have done well in first round matches over the years. White is bound to be a bit tight with so much at stake, and if Goto can settle, he looks like he can win at least one set.
White is the 1.20 favourite with Goto 6.00. I’ll have a small bet on White to have his fifth 3-1 opening match win and a bet on over 3.5 sets
2024 WC Darts Tuesday Tip: 0.5 point Ian White to win 3-1 @ 3.60 with Fitzdares
2024 WC Darts Tuesday Tip: 1 point over 3.5 sets @ 1.85 with Fitzdares
Ritchie Edhouse vs. Jeffery de Graaf
Edhouse is the 1.40 favourite here with the Dutch born Swede 3.15. Edhouse has played in three previous World Championships and won his first round match twice. His recent form sees six defeats in his last ten matches and he has been struggling to match his seasonal average of 91.23.
Jeffery de Graaf is only averaging 85.5 in 2023 and he plays on the Challenge Tour & the Nordic Baltic tour. He also qualified for a couple of Euro Tour events and most recently the Modus Super Series. He lost eight of his last ten matches and his chances look bleak.
Edhouse has played three first round matches here, winning two 3-1 and 3-2, and the match he lost was another five setter. The question has to be, is De Graaf good enough win a set or two? On the evidence of his recent form, the answer looks to be no.
No bet.
2024 WC Darts Tuesday Tip: No Bet
Keegan Brown vs. Boris Krčmar
There can’t be many players coming into the first round in worse form than Keegan Brown. He has lost eleven of his last thirteen matches, eight with sub 80 averages.
Big Boris is no more than a handy player but he was able to win four matches at the Tour Card holder’s qualifying event to take his place in the first round. His seasonal average is 91.98, a little better than Brown’s 89.47. Krcmar has won seven of his last ten matches and while his scoring is far from consistent, it is a lot better than Brown has been managing lately.
Brown is an Ally Pally veteran and has won four of his seven opening matches. Boris lost a preliminary round match back in 2011 and he has played here for the last three years winning just one match, a 3-0 win over Toru Suzuki.
Krcmar is the 1.55 favourite with Brown 2.63. I was hoping for a little better odds, but given Brown’s form, that was wishful thinking. No doubt the enormous Croatian arrowsmith will miss endless darts at the doubles, but he is the pick here.
2024 WC Darts Tuesday Tip: 1 point Krčmar to win -1.5 sets @ 2.10 with Ladbrokes
James Wade vs. Matt Campbell
It was painful to watch Matt Campbell miss five darts to beat Lourence Ilagan 3-0, and then lose the next two sets to ruin our bet for him to cover a -1.5 leg handicap. He was excellent in the final set and was the deserved winner.
It was an emotional win for the Canadian who has thinking that he was doomed to never win a match at Ally Pally. He now gets a crack at James Wade.
Wade is a veteran of nineteen PDC World Championships and while some say his record isn’t that good, he has reached four semi-finals, the last in 2022, which means he is defending a big wedge of ranking prizemoney.
The good news for Wade fans is that his Major form in the second half of 2023 is very good. He was runner up in the European Championships, the Grand Slam saw a semi-final and the Players Championship a quarter final.
In Form
The Machine has won seven of his last ten matches and his 2023 seasonal average is a healthy 94.55. Wade has won eight of his last ten opening matches here but he did lose 2-3 to Jim Williams last year.
This will be the first time these two have met on TV, but Wade is 3-0 in their three Players Championship matches played over the last two years. They have been close affairs with two requiring a deciding leg and the other was 6-4 in a match back in February.
Wade is the 1.33 favourite with Campbell 3.80. Wade is the better player and it will take Campbell to play like he did in the final set against Ilagan if we are to get a surprise. I expect Wade will be able to win this but there is no great value here.
