2024 Premier League Night 11 Preview & Tips
Now, it is time for James Punt’s 2024 Premier League Night 11 preview.
Night 10
Night 10 saw a 1.27 loss. It came down to Rob Cross missing a double to make his match with Aspinall go over 9.5 legs. Peter Wright averaging 109 and losing 4-6 didn’t help either, but such is darts. We now have a marginal profit of 1.28 points to date. Night 11 comes from Birmingham and at least offers something else to watch if the Masters is rained off.
Peter Wright vs. Luke Humphries
We backed Wright at 3.25 last week to beat Gerwyn Price, and despite a 109 average he lost 4-6. Will I be backing him again this week? No.
Wright played two and lost two in the two Players Championship events on Monday and Tuesday, meaning he has lost eight of his last ten matches. Wright had been getting some good runs on the floor, which was helping his confidence, but that will have been set back. He is also facing Luke Humphries.
Below Par Humphries?
Cool Hand lost the final of PC8 on Tuesday and he has won eight of his last ten matches. He wasn’t at his best on Monday or Tuesday, hitting just two ton plus averages, and had three sub 95s. That is below par for Humphries these days and underlines the task faced by Wright.
These two have met three times in this year’s PL and Humphries has won all three, 6-4, 6-1 and 6-1. Peter Wright averaged 97 and 98 in the two most recent matches and lost both 6-1.
Humphries is the 1.22 favourite, Wright 4.50.

Rob Cross vs. Luke Littler
Rob Cross didn’t really boost his form at PC 7 and PC 8 earlier this week. He won four of his six matches but he didn’t beat much and he was only OK. He will not have come away thinking, yeah, I can build on that.
Voltage has lost five of his last ten matches, and more to the point, lost his last five PL matches and his last four quarter finals. Cross is now in sixth place and six points off the playoff places. He is in danger of being overtaken by Gerwyn Price for sixth place. This is now a must win match.
Hat Trick Hopes
Littler won his second night in a row last Thursday and will be trying to emulate Humphries and MVG by winning three in a row. Littler now tops the table and has a ton of momentum behind him.
He wasn’t so good in the Players Championship events, winning five of his seven matches but failing to get further than the fourth round on either day. His best performance was a 6-5 win over Luke Humphries, otherwise, he was a bit ordinary. However, I dare say he was only moderately bothered.
Their record in the PL is 1-1, but overall, 3-1 to Littler. Their last match was a cracker, with Littler beating Cross 8-7 in the final of the Belgian Darts Open. Cross averaged 108 that night, but still couldn’t beat Littler.
Rob Cross must be panicking now. He needs to win a night if he is to turn things around. Facing the league leader just when he really can’t afford to lose a fifth quarter final in a row. That, with the memory of averaging 108 last time, and still losing.
Littler is the 1.44 favourite, Cross 3.10.

Gerwyn Price vs. Michael Smith
Gerwyn Price has done just enough to keep his hopes of making the playoffs alive. He was runner up last week and he has picked up five points over the last three nights.
He is still seven points off the play offs, but he’ll be thinking that he can win a night or two before the end of the league phase, and that may be enough. At the very least, this is a chance to move up the table, if Cross has lost to Littler.
The Iceman has won six of his last ten matches and hit seven ton plus averages. He should have a better win rate and a bit of a lack of confidence on the outer ring continues to hurt him. However, the same can be said of his opponent.
Smith struggling
Michael Smith last lost six of his last ten matches and three of his last five have seen sub 92 averages. Six of his last ten matches have seen checkout rates of under 33%. It seems likely that he could be outscored by Price and if he is to win, he will need to take every chance he gets.
Their H2H record in this year’s PL is 3-1 to Smith. Two matches required a deciding leg, one was a 6-2 win for Smith, but their most recent one was a 6-3 win for Price.
Price is the 1.62 favourite to win, Smith 2.40. I suspect Price will be up for this and I’ll take him to edge another close one.

Michael van Gerwen vs. Nathan Aspinall
MVG is in a spot of bother. Having topped the table after six weeks, he has now picked up just 2 points since Week 6. That leaves him in fourth place, and fighting for a place in the playoffs, never mind thinking of topping the table.
His overall form is six wins from his last ten. He was runner up on the Euro Tour three weeks ago, but the draw was kind to him. His scoring is inconsistent at best and he wasn’t great in the Players Championship events earlier in the week, winning just three matches.
He lost to Ian White and Andrew Gilding, two players who he should be beating with his B game. MVG has withdrawn from this weekend’s International Darts Open, which suggests that he is feeling in need of a rest.
Aspinall In Form
Aspinall has his tail up after picking up ten points from the last four weeks and now sits in third place, and within touching distance of another Premier League play off.
Like Van Gerwen, Aspinall has won six of his last ten matches but he is playing with a bit more consistency and certainly more confidence. All he needs to do is play the board and not think about who he is playing.
Their H2H record is 18-7 to Van Gerwen, the Dutchman has also won their two previous meetings in this year’s PL and won six of their last seven meetings. Many matches have been close and six of their last seven best of eleven leg matches have seen over 9.5 legs.
