Will Max Verstappen’s run of pole positions be brought to an end this afternoon? Or will he pull it out at the death as he did last year.

The Ferrari has been the faster car so far but as usual, Red Bull have worked overnight to get the car in a better position, at least for Verstappen. Perez was back in fifth place in FP3, better than on Friday, but he is half a second off the pace of Leclerc.

Charles Leclerc was 0.197 faster than Verstappen in second place, Hamilton was 0.341 slower and Piastri 0.532 back in fourth. A couple of tenths is a decent margin on this short lap, but Verstappen was getting closer and closer as the session went on.

Leclerc Believes

Leclerc knows that he can do it, he has two pole positions under his belt here already. The Ferrari is very well suited to the demands of this track and the Ferrari – Leclerc combination is very strong. It looks like only Verstappen or bad luck can stop him.

Luck plays a big part around this track. Hitting traffic or hitting the wall can cause big problems. Somebody else hitting the wall can also throw a spanner in the works. Just having the fastest car isn’t always enough here.

Leclerc is the 1.62 favourite with Verstappen 3.50. You can get over 1.70+ on the Betfair exchange which is a good price, but how long it will last is open to question so be quick.

I was considering a couple of match bets, but this is a doubly dangerous track for match bets as luck can play such a big part, so I’ll stick with just the pole bet.
