Slovakia vs Romania Match Preview

When the competitions are designed with 24 teams and the Top 16 qualify for the Last 16, from time to time we come to the last round of matches and the scenarios of matches can distort the chances of things happening. This match is one of those scenarios, If the match is a DRAW, then BOTH TEAMS QUALIFY for the LAST 16.

Here is the scenario. If the match finishes as a draw, both teams would have 4 points (Romania +1 GD, Slovakia 0 GD). The other match in the group is Ukraine vs Belgium. If Belgium win, the group would finish 1.BEL 2.ROM 3.SLO 4.UKR. If Belgium draw it would finish 1.ROM 2.BEL 3.SLO 4.UKR. If Ukraine pulled off an upset win it would finish 1.UKR 2.ROM 3.SLO 4.BEL.

So we know if this match is a draw, Slovakia will finish 3rd with 4 points and 0 goal difference. We also know only 4 of the 6 third place teams will qualify. In Group A, Hungary have only 3 points and are inferior to Slovakia, and Croatia Only have 2 points as a third place team.

So, given that a draw guarantees that both teams advance, that has to be the logical bet.

Ukraine vs Belgium Match Preview

If we are going to say Slovakia v Romania is likely going to end up a draw, then the only way Ukraine can qualify for the last 16 is by winning this match. Belgium qualify with a win or draw.  My Ratings have Belgium by 0.65 (Asian Line 0.85) so I think it could be tighter than what the line thinks, although in all probability Belgium should win.

If you want a bit of value, then take the 5.40 about Ukraine. They know it’s a must win or out situation and although they’re having a poor tournament, they can play a lot better than they have so far and with a bit of luck, they could pull of a win.

As for Belgium, they have had 3 goals chalked off by VAR, all by Romelu Lukaku. They have not played too badly but they were expected to stroll this group.

Although I think Belgium deserve to be favourites, the line is too much for me.

Czechia vs Turkey Match Preview

Czechia come into this match knowing they need a win to guarantee qualification. However, by the time this match is played, they will also have the knowledge on whether a point will be enough. This is worth considering before having a bet.

Czechia created enough chances to beat Georgia and will be rueing their missed opportunities. They will also feel unlucky at not taking an undeserved point against Portugal, conceding a goal in injury time.

Turkey come into this match with one win and one loss against the best and worst teams in this group. No surprise there. This match was always going to be the decider and Turkey have the privilege of knowing that a draw would take them through to the Last 16. Even a defeat could see them qualify, depending on other results.

Georgia vs Portugal Match Preview

This match mirrors the Albania v Spain match. Spain played a reserve team and won 1-0 in a reasonable canter. Portugal have already won the group so will start with a second XI which are also of a higher standard than Georgia.

Georgia know a win would take them through to the last 16 but that will be some ask. Georgia were lucky to get a draw against Czechia, who beat them on a shot count of 20-1.

Georgia will try their best to contain Portugal and hit them on the break so maybe, with lots of luck, a miracle might happen. Portugal should control the match and their second XI will be hoping to impress Roberto Martinez and force themselves into the team for the knockout stages.
